1/24: CBS Weekend News

A federal agent in Minneapolis has shot and killed a second U.S. citizen this month, the latest incident in a series of events that have raised concerns about police tactics and the use of deadly force by law enforcement.

The shooting occurred on Wednesday in the Lake Calhoun neighborhood, according to eyewitnesses. The victim was identified as 32-year-old Michael Johnson, who was shot while walking down a street near the lake. The agent involved in the shooting has not been named.

This is the second time this month that a U.S. citizen has been killed by federal agents in Minneapolis. On January 5, a 55-year-old man was also shot and killed by an FBI agent during a confrontation on the city's west side.

The incident has sparked outrage among local residents and civil rights groups, who say it is part of a broader pattern of police brutality against marginalized communities. The FBI and other federal agencies have been criticized for their handling of protests and demonstrations in Minneapolis, where widespread unrest has erupted over police brutality and systemic racism.

In response to the latest shooting, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has called for calm and promised to work with law enforcement agencies to address concerns about police tactics and use of force. The FBI has also issued a statement assuring the public that it is investigating the incident and will provide more information as it becomes available.

The shooting is just one of several high-profile incidents involving federal agents in recent months, including the killing of Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia by two white men who were later charged with murder. The case has sparked widespread outrage and calls for greater accountability from law enforcement agencies.

As the nation grapples with issues of police brutality and systemic racism, it is clear that more needs to be done to address these complex problems. That includes increasing transparency and accountability within law enforcement agencies, as well as working to build trust between communities and those who serve them.

man, its crazy how often this stuff happens now ๐Ÿคฏ like two weeks ago there was another incident in NYC where cops shot a unarmed guy and no one even knew his name lol what's going on with law enforcement agencies? they need to get their act together ASAP. i mean i'm all for keeping communities safe but not at the expense of innocent lives. we gotta be honest about police brutality and systemic racism, its time to take action ๐Ÿ•’๏ธ

Ugh man, this is getting out of hand ๐Ÿคฏ! Another US citizen loses their life to a fed agent, what's going on? The FBI is supposed to be enforcing laws not taking lives. We need real change, like body cams for all agents & regular audits to ensure they're following the rules ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ. It's time to stop these high-profile incidents and focus on building trust with the communities they're supposed to protect ๐Ÿค. Can't we just have some peace of mind knowing our police are doing their job w/o taking innocent lives ๐Ÿ’”?

idk why ppl are so quick 2 judge the cops ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ its always 1 step too far 4 any1 but what if the agent had 2 shot n save a life? ๐Ÿค” doesnt mean they didnt do sumting wrong, jst means theres more 2 it than we think. dont 4get both sides 2 the story

๐Ÿค” I'm thinking... of all the protests and riots in Minneapolis ๐ŸŒ†, it's like a big fire ๐Ÿ”ฅ that's hard to put out ๐Ÿš’. And then we got another shooting ๐Ÿ’€, and it's just not good enough ๐Ÿ˜”. The gov't is talking about calmness ๐Ÿ™, but I don't see how they can just promise everything will be okay when people are feeling so angry ๐Ÿ˜ค.

Imagine a diagram with two lines - one for the police ๐Ÿ‘ฎ and one for the community ๐Ÿ‘ฅ. Right now, those lines are all tangled up in knots ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ. We need to untangle them somehow ๐Ÿ”„ or find a new way to make them work together in peace ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธ. Maybe we can draw a circle around transparency ๐Ÿ”’ and accountability ๐Ÿ’ฏ? That's the only way to build trust again ๐Ÿ‘ซ.

Here's a simple mind map:
```
+---------------+
| Police |
| (with power) |
+---------------+
|
| ^
| |
v |
+---------------+ +---------------+
| Community | | Trust |
| (with hurt) | | ( rebuild ) |
+---------------+ +---------------+
```
It's a mess ๐Ÿคฏ, but we gotta start somewhere ๐Ÿ’ช.

๐Ÿค” I'm really disturbed by this latest shooting in Minneapolis. It's just another example of the systemic issues that plague our country, particularly when it comes to policing marginalized communities. The fact that a federal agent was able to take the life of an innocent citizen, Michael Johnson, without any clear justification or provocation, raises serious questions about police training and accountability.

It's alarming to see this type of incident escalating into a broader pattern of police brutality. We need more concrete steps being taken to address these issues, such as implementing policies that prioritize de-escalation techniques over deadly force, increasing community engagement, and providing transparent investigations into such incidents.

We also need to recognize the compounding effects of systemic racism on our justice system, which disproportionately affects communities of color. Any meaningful progress in addressing police brutality will require a concerted effort to dismantle these entrenched biases and work towards building trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve. ๐ŸŒŸ

๐Ÿคฏ just saw this news and imo we need to get real about police brutality ASAP like what's going on in Minneapolis is NOT okay? ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ a 2nd US citizen killed by federal agents in ONE MONTH?! it's time for some serious changes, you feel? ๐Ÿ’ฅ we need more transparency and accountability, not just empty promises from Mayor Frey ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ and the FBI needs to step up their game too. this ain't just about Minneapolis or the US, it's a global issue that affects us all ๐ŸŒŽ we gotta work together to build trust and create real change ๐Ÿ”“

man this is all so sad ๐Ÿค• another innocent life lost at the hands of a federal agent... it's like they're not even trying to de-escalate situations anymore, just shooting first and asking questions later ๐Ÿ’” i'm not saying the victim was in the wrong or anything, but can't we just try to understand each other for once? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ i think we need to start having some real conversations about police tactics and training, rather than just pointing fingers and blaming everyone else for the problems... it's time to get serious about building trust between law enforcement and the communities they're supposed to serve ๐Ÿ‘Š

๐Ÿค” police should really work on de-escalation techniques ๐Ÿ™ like in other countries... usa is way behind ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. just because someone's being loud doesn't mean they deserve a bullet ๐Ÿ’ฃ. and what's with the lack of transparency? you can't just shoot someone and then not even know their name ๐Ÿ˜’. federal agents need to do better ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™€๏ธ.

๐Ÿค” I mean, what's up with all these high-profile shootings by federal agents? It's like they're trying to make headlines or something ๐Ÿ“ฐ. Like, seriously though, can't we just have a peaceful resolution to these conflicts without someone getting shot? ๐Ÿ’€ And it's not like this is the first time we've seen this happen... like, remember Ahmaud Arbery and all that drama in Georgia ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. I'm not saying Minneapolis is the only city with issues, but it feels like they're getting a lot of attention lately ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ. Anyway, I guess what I'm trying to say is that we need to have some serious conversations about police accountability and transparency... or something ๐Ÿ’ก.

can we talk about this? the shooting just happened like days ago but i'm already feeling so frustrated thinking about it ๐Ÿค•... the fact that a 32-year-old dude gets shot by a federal agent in broad daylight and nobody knows who did it yet is just wild ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. we need to get more info out here ASAP. and another thing, isn't this like the second time this month? what's going on with these agencies? can't they do better than this? ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I'm really worried about this kind of thing happenin' in the US ๐Ÿค•. It's like, what's goin' on with all these police brutality cases? Can't we just have a chill conversation without someone gettin' shot? ๐Ÿค” I mean, I know there are some good cops out there too, but it feels like they're outnumbered by the ones who are doin' this kinda thing. We need more training and accountability for our law enforcement agencies, you feel me? ๐Ÿ’ฌ

๐Ÿค• this is getting outta hand... like we thought the Ahmaud Arbery case was a wake up call but now another US citizen is dead at the hands of a fed agent in Minneapolis? ๐Ÿšจ what's going on?! We need to talk about police brutality and systemic racism more than ever. Can't just sweep it under the rug and expect everything to be okay. We need real change, not just empty promises from politicians ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ. And what about accountability? Who is holding these agents accountable for their actions? ๐Ÿค”

man this feels so familiar... like, how many times have we heard about some poor dude getting gunned down by the cops? ๐Ÿคฏ it's like we're stuck in some kind of never-ending nightmare. i'm trying not to jump to conclusions or anything but come on, two shots in one month already? that's just crazy. and what really gets me is how calm the mayor is being about it... like, yeah calm down Jacob, tell us more ๐Ÿ™ƒ. we need answers here. this isn't just some isolated incident, it's part of a pattern. i'm all for free speech and protest but not when people are getting shot by agents in the middle of nowhere. we gotta do better than that.

๐Ÿค” I'm telling you, this is all part of the elite's plan to keep the masses distracted while they further erode our civil liberties ๐Ÿšซ. Think about it, another two U.S. citizens dead at the hands of "protecting" us? Something doesn't add up here. The timing, the location, the agents involved... it all seems like a carefully crafted narrative to keep the public in line ๐Ÿ˜ด. I'm not saying there's no need for law enforcement or accountability, but we need to start asking some real questions about who's really behind the scenes pulling these strings ๐Ÿ‘Š.

idk why people are so quick to assume federal agents are always wrong ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿšจ they're just doing their job, same as cops on the streets. this kind of outrage is gonna keep happening until we understand that there's a lot more going on behind the scenes than meets the eye ๐Ÿ‘€ some of these protests and demos can get pretty wild, and sometimes agents gotta make tough decisions to keep people safe ๐Ÿšซ but it doesn't excuse them from accountability when they mess up ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ at the same time, i'm not saying law enforcement is always spot on... we need to be open to feedback and reform ๐Ÿ’ก what's important is that we don't demonize everyone in blue ๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I don't usually comment but this is getting really concerning... I mean, two US citizens killed by federal agents in Minneapolis already this month? It's like, what are we even doing here? The fact that it happened again raises so many questions about police tactics and use of force. Like, when does it become acceptable to take a human life? It's not just about the individuals involved, but also about the communities that are already traumatized by systemic racism.

I'm not saying that law enforcement doesn't have a hard job, but it seems like we're always looking for ways to justify the use of force. And when it goes wrong, no one ever really gets held accountable. It's like, where's the accountability? Where's the transparency? We need to start having real conversations about this stuff and actually doing something about it.

And yeah, I know Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey is calling for calm, but that feels like just a PR move to me. What he needs to do is actually work with law enforcement agencies to address these concerns and build trust between communities and those who serve them. It's time for real change, not just empty words ๐Ÿคท

just another day in minneapolis where the cops are keepin' it real with their guns blazin' ๐Ÿคฏ meanwhile i'm over here thinkin how can we work together to rebuild trust between law enforcement & our community especially when it feels like they're just shootin folks left and right this incident's got me thinkin maybe we need to take a step back & ask ourselves what's really goin on behind closed doors in those police stations.
