At least a dozen apartment units were ravaged by flames in a devastating fire that broke out early Thursday morning in north Houston, according to officials from the city's fire department. The blaze, which was reported at approximately 3:30am, is believed to have started at a complex on Greens Road near Imperial Valley Drive.
Firefighters responded quickly to the scene, with around 50-60 units and over 50 personnel mobilized in an effort to combat the blaze. Senior Capt. Raul Reyes said that while flames were initially present within the apartments, the situation was brought under control through swift action by his team. The incident triggered a second alarm, prompting additional resources to be deployed to support the firefighting efforts.
Reyes described the fire as "scale of apartment complex big," emphasizing the need for more units and firefighters in response to the scale of the disaster. Despite an extensive effort, Reyes confirmed that approximately 10 units were damaged in the blaze, but he noted that no injuries had been reported so far.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time. However, officials have notified the Red Cross to assist families who may be displaced as a result of the incident.
Crews continue to work on extinguishing hotspots and bringing the situation under control, with updates on the status of the fire expected as more information becomes available.
