14 hospitalized after METRO bus flips in crash with vehicle on SH-288 at McGowen: METRO officials

At Least 14 Injured in METRO Bus Crash with Vehicle on SH-288 Overpass in Houston

A devastating crash involving a METRO bus and another vehicle left at least 14 people hospitalized, including the bus operator, after a traffic collision on McGowen Street near the Highway 288 overpass. According to METRO officials, the accident occurred when a second vehicle allegedly struck the bus from behind, sending it off the bridge.

The incident happened during rush hour Saturday afternoon, with the METRO bus carrying 13 passengers and the driver operating the vehicle, who was also injured in the collision but is now reported stable. Fortunately, all passengers were evacuated from the bus unharmed, although one passenger required assistance due to being pinned inside by debris.

Houston Fire Department (HFD) responders rushed to the scene, where they employed specialized equipment, including the "Jaws of Life," to free the trapped individual and provide medical attention to those in need. The HFD Captain described the rescue effort as particularly challenging, stating that rescuers had to use various tools to carefully extract the injured person from the wreckage.

The driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash was transported to a hospital with critical injuries but is now reported stable. Meanwhile, METRO officials have stated that all passengers and the bus operator were safely removed from the vehicle after being rescued by HFD responders.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with many people shaken by the accident, which also sparked a sense of community concern among locals who work for METRO. A nearby resident reported feeling a mix of emotions upon witnessing the crash, including fear and a personal connection to his workplace.

The incident remains under investigation, and as of late Saturday afternoon, authorities have described the scene as an active and developing situation.

πŸ˜žπŸ’” just saw this news about that crazy bus crash on SH-288 overpass in Houston... 14 people hurt, including the driver... how scary is that?! 🚨 I'm so relieved to hear all passengers are okay, though - it's a miracle they weren't more badly injured. πŸ™ And poor guy who got trapped under debris - thanks to those HFD responders for saving him! πŸ’ͺ That overpass must have been terrifying during rush hour... hopefully the investigation finds out what happened and we can learn from it. 🀝

omg what r ppl thinkin?? 🀯 like they're so shook by it but did u know that highway 288 is super narrow & prone to accidents? idk wut else to say tho...it's just another day in houston 😩. anyway, hopefully the injured people recovr ASAP πŸ’ͺ

man... this is just heartbreaking what happened on that overpass in Houston πŸ€• it makes me think about how fragile life can be one minute you're going about your day, the next you're fighting for survival πŸ’₯ and it's crazy to think that there were like 14 people injured in an instant... like, what even are we doing to prevent these kinds of accidents from happening again? πŸ€” is it just a matter of being prepared, having the right safety protocols in place? or is it something more fundamental about our society that needs to change? 🌎 i mean, as someone who's witnessed this kind of thing firsthand, i can tell you that it's not just about the physical harm... it's also about the emotional toll it takes on people and their loved ones πŸ’”

omg what a crazy accident on SH-288 overpass 🚨😱 happened during rush hour saturday afternoon can't believe 14 people got hurt including the bus driver πŸ€• hopefully everyone recovers soon πŸ’• the jaws of life came in handy to free the trapped person from the wreckage 🀯 meanwhile, metro officials are investigating the cause of the accident and all passengers were safe after being rescued by hfd responders πŸ’― such a relief that it was just a miracle they were unharmed πŸ‘

ugh this is so frustrating πŸ™„ ...i mean can't we all just be careful on the roads? it's not that hard. first off, who drives like this?! sending a bus off a bridge because you're a little behind... what's next? driving in reverse into an empty parking lot? 🚨 and don't even get me started on the state of our roads - clearly we need to invest more in maintenance and safety features.

and seriously, where was that second vehicle coming from?! were they speeding up just to hit someone?! or did they have a medical emergency or something? i don't get it. and what about all those passengers who had to be pinned down by debris? are we really expected to just wait around for the "Jaws of Life" to arrive? 🀯 and now there's a critical injury on top of everyone else... this is just not right.

i guess all i can say is that our city needs to come together and demand better from our transportation system. we deserve safer roads and more attention to safety features. let's make some noise, houston! πŸ’ͺ

😱 14 people injured in that crazy bus crash! I was on my way home from work yesterday and saw all those ambulances rushing by. It's just heartbreaking to think about those passengers who were stuck under all that debris πŸ˜”. The Jaws of Life, really? That's insane 🀯. I'm glad the HFD responders were able to get everyone out safely though. I live pretty close to McGowen St and it's always crazy during rush hour anyway, so you know it's gonna be a wild ride sometimes πŸ˜…. But seriously, 14 people hurt is just too many πŸ€•. Hopefully the investigation finds out what happened and those responsible are held accountable πŸ’―.

🚨😱 This is so scary! I mean, can you even imagine being on that bus and just seeing it lift up into the air? πŸ’₯ It's crazy how fast things can go wrong on our roads... like, what if everyone had been hurt instead of just 14 people?! πŸ€• Would've been a total disaster. Poor driver who got hit from behind though πŸš—πŸ˜“. Glad the HFD was able to get everyone out safely though! βš’οΈπŸ‘
