Violent Attack Rocks Queens Subway Station, Police Scour for Suspect
A senseless act of violence shook the southbound E train platform at the Union Turnpike-Kew Gardens station in Queens yesterday afternoon. Two men were brutally attacked in a span of seconds, leaving them with serious injuries.
According to eyewitnesses, one victim was slashed in his forehead by an attacker who emerged from behind him, before targeting another man in his 50s and slashing him across the face. The assailant fled the scene without speaking to either victim beforehand, leaving them both stunned and shaken.
Fortunately, paramedics responded swiftly and took the victims to hospital, where they were stabilized. However, their attackers remain at large, with police working tirelessly to track down the perpetrator.
This incident marks a disturbing trend in transit crime, with NYPD data showing that violent assaults on subways and buses are up slightly this year. Over 500 felony assaults have been reported so far, a significant increase from the same period last year.
While overall transit crime has seen a decline of almost 5% citywide, areas like the 112th Precinct, where yesterday's attack took place, continue to struggle with rising assault rates. Five felony assaults were reported in this precinct through November 16, an uptick from the same timeframe last year.
As police continue their investigation and scour for leads, residents are left to wonder if such senseless acts of violence will become more frequent on our city's subways.

and what's really messed up is that the victim were just sitting there minding their own biz, no sign of trouble at all...it's these random acts of violence on public transportation that make you feel so uneasy walking around the city knowing you could be a victim at any second. i think it's time for the NYPD to step up their game & increase surveillance cameras in areas like this... maybe they can catch this guy & put an end to this senseless killing spree 
what's goin on with these subways??! it's like everythin' is just gettin' worse and worse. i mean, 500 felonies so far this year? that's just not right. and its not like the NYPD can't do better. i've seen those videos of the trains runnin' red lights and people just walkin' across... it's like we're losin' our collective minds.
I'm not buying that this was just a random act of violence... the fact that the guy just showed up out of nowhere and attacked those two dudes without saying a word is sketchy, you know? And have you seen the security footage from nearby cameras? I bet it'll show some suspicious movement around that area leading up to the attack 
. It's like, what was he looking for? What was in his head when he decided to do this? The police are just covering their tracks, if you ask me... they're probably trying to sweep this under the rug and make it look like another random crime

. The fact that these guys were slashed in seconds, no warning at all... it's just too much. I'm glad those paramedics showed up ASAP and got them to hospital, but seriously, how many people do we need to get hurt before someone does something about this?

. 500+ felony assaults in one year? That's a lot for a "minor uptick" 
. What are the numbers looking like before the rise of social media and news outlets? Were violent attacks more prevalent when people actually talked to each other face-to-face? 
How about the victims themselves - what were they doing at that Union Turnpike-Kew Gardens station, and why didn't anyone notice anything suspicious beforehand? 
. NYPD needs to do more to keep our subways safe, like increasing patrols and surveillance cameras. we can't have our cities becoming war zones, you know?
