Umm I dont get why everyone loves tuna melt so much... its like eating cold fish between two slices of bread . And mayo is so overrated, who needs all that extra fat? Just use some plain old vinegar and see how good it is. Cheddar might be a classic but have you tried goat cheese? It's way more interesting than cheddar any day. And yeah sure rye is fine but why not try some whole wheat or something? The point of this tuna melt thingy is to "elevate" the humble tuna melt, give me a break...
This tuna melt thingy needs some serious upgrade from my perspective. I mean, it's all good and great but let's be real, who thought mayo was an acceptable base for tuna salad?
It's not about throwing in random stuff like Calabrian chili mayo though, that actually works. The key is balance, don't overdo the spices or acidity. And please, for the love of all things cheesy, use some proper cheese. Fontina all day for me.
Bread can be a game changer too. Sourdough or Texas toast add a level of sophistication that takes this humble sandwich to another level. Just don't skimp on the quality.
I gotta say, I'm not sold on rye though. It's just too... basic for my taste. But hey, being basic can be good in moderation.
