Alexandre Pato: Ex-Brazil star in consortium for Colchester United takeover talks

Former Brazilian international and AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato is part of a consortium vying for control of English League Two club Colchester United. The 36-year-old footballer, who has represented Brazil at the international level, including the 2012 Olympics, attended Saturday's home game against Fleetwood Town as a guest of current owner Robbie Cowling.

Talks with Lightwell Sports Group, the US-based outfit headed by Tom Foley, collapsed in June last year. However, the sale process was reopened in September and has since attracted interest from several parties.

Colchester United is currently enjoying a resurgence under manager Danny Cowley, who has guided the team to an unbeaten run over six games, winning three of their last four matches. They are eighth in the table, just three points outside the playoffs for promotion back into English Football League Two (the third tier).

The takeover process at Colchester United is being overseen by American consultant Mitchell B Reiss on behalf of the club.

Pato's involvement comes at a time when football clubs in the lower tiers often face financial challenges. The Brazilian striker, who has played for several top-tier clubs, including AC Milan and Chelsea FC, announced his retirement from professional football last year after signing with Sao Paulo in 2023.

omg i was just thinking about what's your favorite food when you're on a road trip πŸ€”πŸ” i mean i had the best burger at this tiny diner in new york last summer it was literally the juiciest patty ever πŸ˜‹ but anyway back to colchester united - 36 and still trying to make a comeback is pretty cool, right? πŸ˜‰ alexandre pato is like the ultimate underdog story πŸ•πŸ’ͺ maybe he can bring some of that magic to colchester's team? 🀞

Man, can you believe it? Alexandre Pato is getting back into the game, this time as a part-owner of Colchester United 🀯! I'm not surprised, tbh - he's always been passionate about the sport. It's good to see some familiar faces from the top tier getting involved with teams in League Two. The US-based Lightwell Sports Group was out last time around, but I guess they're back at it again πŸ’ͺ.

Colchester United is definitely doing well under Danny Cowley - three wins on the trot? That's impressive! But let's be real, the lower tiers have been struggling financially for ages πŸ€‘. It'll be interesting to see if Pato and his consortium can bring some stability (and maybe a bit of flair) to the club.

The news about Alexandre Pato joining the bid to buy Colchester United is quite interesting πŸ€”. I mean, a legendary Brazilian footballer like him wanting to be involved in a lower-tier club's takeover? It raises some eyebrows. Is this just a clever PR move or does he really want a piece of the action? πŸ€‘ As it stands now, Pato has been spotted attending Colchester United games, which is cool, but we need more info on his involvement with Lightwell Sports Group and how serious he's about taking over the club. The timing also can't be ignored - with clubs in lower tiers often struggling financially, does this move have anything to do with Pato wanting a new challenge or trying to get involved in the business side of football? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ We'll have to keep an eye on this one!

I'm not sure if Colchester United is ready to get taken over by Alexandre Pato's consortium πŸ€”. The team seems to be doing alright under manager Danny Cowley, and I don't think they need a big-name player like Pato to guide them through the playoffs πŸ’ͺ. Plus, Pato himself retired from pro football last year πŸ™. Maybe this is more of a business move for him? He's not getting any younger, so maybe he wants to get involved in the game again in a different way 😊. Still, it'll be interesting to see how this all plays out...

I'm thinking Colchester United might get a boost from Pato's involvement πŸ€”... It'll be interesting to see how he fits into the team, but also whether this takeover will put them over the edge for promotion πŸ†. The fact that they're in an unbeaten run is awesome, and with Cowley at the helm, I'm hoping their resurgence continues πŸ’ͺ.

πŸ€” I'm intrigued by Alexandre Pato's involvement in Colchester United's takeover bid πŸ† He's been through a rollercoaster of a career, but it's great to see him taking on a new challenge. The fact that the Lightwell Sports Group talks broke down last year just shows how competitive the market is for lower-tier clubs πŸ’Έ.

I'm curious to see how Pato will approach his new role and whether he'll be able to bring some of his international experience to the pitch 🌟 Meanwhile, it's awesome to see Colchester United on a roll under Danny Cowley πŸ‘ They've got a good squad and seem like they're heading in the right direction.

It's interesting that Pato has invested in the club at this time – there are plenty of football clubs in lower tiers struggling financially πŸ“‰ The takeover process is always a minefield, but if anyone can make it work, it might be Pato 😊

πŸ† I'm not surprised to see Alexandre Pato involved in the takeover process at Colchester United. Footballers like him who have experience playing for top-tier clubs can bring a lot of value to lower-tier teams. 🀝 It's also great to see the club enjoying a resurgence under manager Danny Cowley, he's clearly doing something right! πŸ† The financial challenges that many lower-tier clubs face are a big concern, but having someone like Pato on board might help attract more investment and support for the team. πŸ’Έ
