Amazon's New World: Aeternum MMO will go offline January 31, 2027

Amazon has officially set a date for its closure: New World's Aeternum MMO will shut down on January 31, 2027. The game, which was once touted as Amazon's attempt to take on the gaming giant World of Warcraft, is expected to bid farewell after several years.

As of today, players can no longer purchase New World: Aeternum, and the game has been delisted from online stores. However, it remains unclear why Amazon is taking so long to fully retire the title. The company had initially announced its decision to wind down support for the MMO in October, stating that the Nighthaven season would be its last.

Despite this, Amazon has given fans a brief reprieve: until January 31, 2027, players will still be able to continue playing New World: Aeternum on its servers. Even though Marks of Fortune in-game currency is no longer available for purchase, starting July 20, 2026, those who have already purchased it can continue to use their existing credits until the game goes offline.

In a bizarre twist, Amazon has seemingly opted to allow players to hold onto their game assets for an extended period, essentially handing them a long-term 'get out of jail free' card. Whether this will have any significant impact on the player base remains to be seen.

I'm kinda surprised that Amazon is extending the life of New World: Aeternum for another 2 years. I mean, I get it, they want to make sure all the players who invested time and money into the game have a chance to wrap up their stories, but at what cost? 🤔 The whole thing just feels like a bit of a PR stunt, you know? And now that we've got a deadline, are they gonna start shutting down servers earlier or later than Jan 31, 2027? 🚧 Either way, it's bittersweet for me. I was actually really enjoying the game when Nighthaven season ended, but I'm also kinda curious to see how this whole thing will play out...

What a weird way to kill off New World... 🤯 Can't say I'm surprised though, Amazon's always been all about trying new things then abandoning them before they actually take off 😂 Guess players are gonna hold onto their in-game loot for years to come 👀

this is so weird amazon kinda extending the life of new world but it's not like they're really gonna keep supporting it lol they just wanna get rid of it and the fact that players can still hold onto their stuff for years to come is wild 🤔 i mean, who needs a game after 5-6 years anyway? it's like amazon is trying to make a point by giving fans a longer window to wrap up whatever they're doing in the game but honestly, who knows what's gonna happen? 🤑 will players even still be playing this thing by 2027 or are we just seeing this as a PR move?

OMG u guys!!! 😱 so amazon is finally gonna close down new world's aeternum in 2027 and it's like we all knew it was coming lol i mean its been dragging on for ages no one has been playing anyway... 🤷‍♂️ but the thing that has me shook is why they're allowing ppl to keep their game assets till then idk if its a power move or what but i guess u can't just get rid of all ur hard work like that 💸 so we'll see what happens when jan 31 rolls around will ppl still be rockin it or will amazon finally set the game free 🤔

just saw that amazon is closing new world and i'm kinda surprised lol they started it like 3 years ago and its been pretty meh anyway, its not like people are going to suddenly start playing because its about to die 🤷‍♂️ also weird that they're giving people an extension on using their in-game currency who knows what's gonna happen after jan 31st
