Trump's Lawyers Push Back Against Plans to Broadcast His Arraignment

The legal team of former US President Donald Trump has objected to a request by media outlets to broadcast his upcoming arraignment on Tuesday. The lawyers, who signed the letter just days after joining Trump's team, claim that allowing cameras and videography in the courtroom would create a "circus-like atmosphere" and raise unique security concerns.

In a letter submitted to New York Supreme Court Judge Juan Merchant, the Trump attorneys argue that the media request is inconsistent with Trump's presumption of innocence. They also stated that any video or photography of the proceedings could heighten the serious security concerns surrounding the case.

The team cites "Secret Service-related concerns" as one of the key reasons for their opposition to broadcasting the arraignment live. Todd Blanche, a new lawyer on Trump's team who recently joined the case, was among those signing the letter.

Meanwhile, the Manhattan District Attorney's office has also responded to the media request, stating that it is deferring to the judge to decide how best to manage the courtroom. However, they noted that excluding or restricting videography and photography could be a legitimate exercise of the court's discretion to maintain order and ensure the safety of all parties involved.

The prosecutors acknowledged that there is no categorical prohibition on cameras during an arraignment in New York law, but pointed out that a similar request was denied for Trump's 2021 tax fraud case. The judge had allowed a limited number of still photographs to be taken prior to proceedings.

As CNN is one of the outlets requesting camera access for Tuesday's arraignment, it remains to be seen how Judge Merchant will rule on the matter.

๐Ÿค” so i think its kinda weird that they're trying to block cameras from going in during trump's arraignment... like, isn't it public interest? we've all been following this case for years and now he's getting put away or whatever, shouldn't we get to see it go down?

i get where the security concerns are though, but can't we just have some basic press access at least? like, a few people taking pics and vids beforehand wouldnt be that big of a deal... plus think about all the ppl who wanna watch it live, its gonna be major news

but on the other hand, if cameras are allowed in then maybe there will be more attention to the whole thing, which could actually help with accountability and stuff... so idk what to make of it

I don't get why they're being so secretive about this ๐Ÿค”... I mean, Trump was pretty public during his time in office, and now he wants to hide behind closed doors? It seems kinda hypocritical to me ๐Ÿ˜. Plus, if there's nothing to hide, why can't the media have a say? It's kinda like they're trying to create a bubble around him that doesn't exist outside of his own team ๐Ÿ’ช. I'm just curious about what's going on here, you know? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ

๐Ÿ˜ I mean, can you blame them? It's not like Trump's team hasn't been at the center of drama and controversy for years now... I'm sure a live broadcast would just add more fuel to the fire. ๐Ÿš’ But seriously, isn't this what courts are supposed to be about - transparency and accountability? It's kinda ironic that they're worried about security when Trump's team has a history of being super secretive about their own dealings. ๐Ÿค”

I dont think this is a good idea at all ๐Ÿ™…โ€โ™‚๏ธ. I mean, whats wrong with allowing cameras in the courtroom? Its not like its gonna disrupt the proceedings or anything ๐Ÿค”. Its just a little transparency and accountability. And what's the security concern exactly? A few paparazzi with their phones? ๐Ÿ˜‚

I also dont buy that Trump's lawyers are really worried about security concerns. This is just an excuse to shield him from scrutiny ๐Ÿ‘€. He should be held accountable for his actions, not have a private little meeting behind closed doors ๐Ÿคซ.

And whats the point of having a public figure like Trump if we cant watch them get arraigned? Its not like hes some kinda superhero or something ๐Ÿ˜‚. This is just another example of how powerful people think they can do whatever they want and avoid consequences ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™‚๏ธ.

omg can u believe trump's lawyers are trying to block live streaming of his arraignment ๐Ÿคฏ like what's he got to hide lol anyway i feel kinda bad for judge merchant having to deal with all this drama ๐Ÿ™„ it's not like they haven't seen a tv courtroom before lol the secret service concerns though is legit tho ๐Ÿค” i mean who wants cameras in the court during an arraignment?

I'm thinking... ๐Ÿค” so Trump's lawyers don't want cameras in the courtroom because they think it'll be a total circus, right? ๐Ÿ˜‚ and also there's some security concerns I guess. But isn't arraignment kinda like "I'm guilty, here's my fate" vibe? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ doesn't he wanna show the world what's going on in his case?

And I saw that CNN is asking for camera access... maybe Judge Merchant will say yes and it'll be a live stream of Trump getting arraigned. Would be kinda cool to see, you know? ๐Ÿ“บ but then again if cameras are allowed it might get too crazy in there ๐Ÿคฏ

I don't think excluding cameras would really help much, that's just gonna add more secrecy to the whole thing... I mean what's he got to hide from the public? ๐Ÿค‘ anyway, we'll have to see how Judge Merchant decides on this... ๐Ÿ™

omg what's going on here ๐Ÿคฏ Trump's lawyers are trying to shut down a live broadcast during his arraignment? that's crazy talk! can't they just let the people watch their leader get held accountable in court? and now they're citing "Secret Service-related concerns" as an excuse... like, isn't that what they're there for? ๐Ÿ˜‚ security shouldn't be a problem if we can all see it happening live on TV. plus think of all the drama that's gonna go down ๐Ÿ“บ๐Ÿ‘€
