At Least 98 Palestinians Have Died in Custody Since October 2023, Say Israeli Data Shows

A staggering 98 Palestinians have lost their lives while detained by Israeli forces since October 2023, according to data released by the Israel Prison Service (IPS). However, human rights experts believe that this number is likely a significant underestimation, as hundreds of Palestinian detainees remain unaccounted for.

Physicians for Human Rights – Israel (PHRI) has been tracking deaths in detention and uncovered an unprecedented casualty rate among Palestinian detainees during the war. The data reveals an alarming one death every four days on average over eight months.

The investigation found that physical violence, medical neglect, and malnutrition were common causes of death among detained Palestinians. Many of those who died in custody had pre-existing medical conditions or injuries sustained during the conflict.

Critics argue that Israel's treatment of Palestinian detainees has become normalized, with some high-ranking officials boasting about measures that are considered abusive by human rights standards.

The PHRI report also highlighted a culture of impunity within Israel's prison system, where those responsible for killing Palestinians in custody rarely face consequences. The investigation found that only one case of assaulting detainees had come to trial, resulting in a relatively lenient sentence.

Despite this, Israeli authorities claim that their policies are in accordance with both Israeli and international law. However, human rights experts argue that the scale and scope of these abuses render it virtually impossible to determine the full extent of Israel's policy of killing detained Palestinians.

A recent mass release of Palestinian prisoners has left at least 1,000 others still held by Israel under indefinite detention without charge or trial.

I'm literally shook by this number - 98 Palestinians have lost their lives in custody since October 2023 🤯. It's like, we know something is wrong when the numbers just keep piling up and no one seems to be doing anything about it. I mean, what even is the point of having a prison system if you're just gonna kill people left and right?

And don't even get me started on this culture of impunity - where are the consequences for those who are responsible? It's like, they think they can just keep doing whatever they want and then pretend like everything is okay. Newsflash: it's not okay 💔.

I'm also really worried about these hundreds of Palestinian detainees who remain unaccounted for. Are we even sure how many people are being held without charge or trial? It's like, a total black hole 🌀.

We need some serious change here - we can't just sit back and let this keep happening. We have to hold those in power accountable and make sure that justice is served 🔥.

🤕 this is so sad 🤕 how can anyone justify killin people while they're in custody? it's like a never ending nightmare for the Palestinians. and what's even more worst is that only 1 case out of all these cases come to trial and get a lenient sentence? 😒 it's just not right.

and what about the thousands of detainees still held without charge or trial? 🤯 it's like they're just throwin away their human rights. i mean, israel says their policies are in accordance with law, but how can that be when it's clearly against humanity?

i think we need to raise our voices and say enough is enough! 💪 these deaths in custody shouldn't just be numbers on a spreadsheet, they're lives lost by innocent people.

😱 this is getting out of hand 🤯 how can a country claim they're following international law & human rights standards when their own data shows ppl are dyin in custody like it's no big deal 💀 1 death every 4 days? that's crazy! 🚨 we need to hold our leaders accountable for this stuff 💪

I'm tellin' ya 🤯, this is just crazy 😱. I mean, 98 people dead in custody since October? That's like, a whole lotta lives lost 🕊️. And to think it's likely an underestimation? Forget about it! 🙅‍♂️ Those poor Palestinians deserve so much better ❤️.

And what's with the excuses from Israel? "Our policies are in accordance with international law"? Give me a break 🤦‍♂️. We all know that's not true. The fact is, Israel's got some serious issues to deal with here 😬. And by the way, it's not just about the Palestinians - we should be worried about human rights abuses everywhere 💔.

I'm just so tired of seeing people die for no reason at all 💀. Can't we just get along and treat each other with dignity? 🤝 I mean, come on, we're all humans here! 👥 We all deserve to live in peace and respect 🙏. This is just getting outta hand, man 😩.

It's hard to wrap my head around these numbers 🤯... 98 lives lost in custody since October '23 is just staggering. I feel so helpless thinking about those Palestinians who've suffered and died at the hands of Israeli forces 😔. It's like, what's going on over there? Where are the leaders with some sense of humanity? All this talk about "culture of impunity" makes me want to scream 💥. And it's not just the deaths - the fact that hundreds are still unaccounted for is just mind-boggling 🤯. We need to keep pushing for change and demanding answers from our governments 📣. I only hope that one day we can look back on this period in history and say, "We did everything in our power to stop this madness." Fingers crossed, but honestly, it's hard to be optimistic right now 😔.

OMG, 98 lives lost already 🤕👊? This is like, totally unacceptable! The fact that the number might be an underestimation is just, like, mind-blowing 😲. I'm talking hundreds of Palestinians still unaccounted for... it's like, what even is happening in those prisons?! 💔

And don't even get me started on the conditions they're being held in 🤢. Medical neglect and malnutrition causing deaths? It's like, basic human rights 101! 😡 How can Israel claim to be following international law when their own data shows this level of brutality? 🚫💪

It's all about creating a culture of impunity, where those responsible get off scot-free 💼. One case coming to trial and getting a lenient sentence? Like, hello? That's not justice, that's just more cover-up! 🤥

We need to keep speaking out against these human rights abuses 💬 and demanding action from our leaders #JusticeForPalestinians #HumanRightsMatter #EndTheOccupation

🤕 This is just a numbers game and people are losing their lives 💀... 98 in custody since Oct 2023? What's the point of even tracking this if it's just gonna be swept under the rug? 🚮 These pre-existing medical conditions & injuries aren't going to magically heal themselves... someone needs to hold the IPS accountable for these deaths 😒

OMG, 98 people dying in custody is just crazy 💀!!! How can Israel claim they're following the law when it's basically saying "oh, you know, we'll kill anyone who complains" 😡? The fact that only one person got a slap on the wrist for assaulting detainees is just insane! 🤯 It's like they think they're above the law or something. And what's with these indefinite detentions without even charging them with anything?! It's like they're just holding people hostage to get what they want. 💔 The PHRI report needs to be taken super seriously, and Israel needs to come clean about what's really going on in their prisons. This is just a cover-up for something much worse... 🚫

🤯 this is insane! 98 ppl already dead in custody since oct 2023? that's like 2-3 people dying every day for 8 months straight 😱 and its not even reported on mainstream news 📰 how can you just ignore something thats happening right under ur noses? i think the gov should be held accountable for this 🤷‍♂️ and what about the ppl who died from pre-existing conditions or injuries sustained during the conflict? it cant be that hard to treat them with some basic human dignity 🙏

can't believe this is happening still 🤯 98 lives lost and it's like just a number to them 📊 the truth is, how many more have we lost count of? and what about those who are still being detained with no end in sight? it feels like they're just using these numbers to cover their own tracks 💔 at least the docs at PHRI are doing their part to expose this, hope it sparks some real change 💪

So this is what happens when you have a system that prioritizes security over human rights... I mean, come on! 98 Palestinians losing their lives in custody? That's just unacceptable 😡. It's like they say, "those who control the prison, control the narrative"... Israel's got to explain why they're so willing to let people die behind bars 🤔.

And don't even get me started on this culture of impunity... if someone assaults a prisoner and gets off with a slap on the wrist, what does that say about our system of justice? It's like, "oh, it's just part of being in a war zone"... no, it's not! 💔.

And let's talk about these pre-existing medical conditions... did Israel really think it was okay to leave people with serious health issues locked up without proper care? 🤷‍♀️ It's like they're saying, "don't worry, we'll take care of you"... but then you die anyway 😱.

I'm all for keeping the peace, but at what cost? If Israel wants to be seen as a civilized society, they need to start treating their detainees with some basic respect and dignity 🙏. Otherwise, it's just more evidence that our systems of justice are fundamentally flawed 💔.

😱 this is just getting worse... 98 people die in custody and it's only a "likely underestimation" 🤯 hundreds more are missing and nobody knows what's going on with those guys 💔 the fact that Israeli officials are bragging about their treatment of Palestinians is just mind-blowing 😲 and don't even get me started on this "culture of impunity"... who gets held accountable for killing people in custody? 🚫 it's like they're above the law... 🤥 1,000 more people still locked up without trial or anything... what's the point of even having a justice system? 😩

omg 98 ppl died in israeli custody since oct 2023 🤯 that's like a death every 4 days for 8 months ! 🕰️ the data from phri shows 1/3 of those who died had pre-existing conditions and many were malnourished 😷 it's literally unacceptable how israel treats ppl in detention

📊 btw did u know that only 1 case of assaulting detainees has come to trial since 2019 🤔 the investigation found only 2 yrs worth of reported deaths, but experts believe there r hundreds more who haven't been accounted for 👀

🚨 the culture of impunity within israel's prison system is REAL 🙅‍♂️ and it's only getting worse with the mass release of palestinian prisoners last month 🤯 at least 1k ppl still held without charge or trial 🚫

📈 as of march 2025, the death toll from israeli custody has reached 154 👻 and the number keeps rising 🚀

Ugh I'm so done with this forum 🤯. Can't we just have a calm conversation about the news without all the drama? This Israel-Palestine situation is super complex and we're already getting heated comments from people on both sides... meanwhile, 98 Palestinians died in custody? That's 98 lives lost over 8 months! 💔 The numbers are staggering, but I'm guessing this is just a tiny fraction of what's really happening. Those human rights experts are spot on that it's an underestimation. We need to focus on the facts and have a respectful discussion about this issue. Can we please keep our comments civil? 😊

Wow 😱 this is crazy how can 98 people die just because they are in custody? and it's not even an accurate number 🤦‍♂️ I mean, what kind of system allows for this level of impunity? where are the accountability? it's like, every time something bad happens, they just brush it off and say "we're following the law" 💔 but the law is clearly broken here. Interesting 👀

😒 I mean, come on... 98 people die in custody and suddenly it's a human rights crisis? 🤔 But then again, I'm like, totally sure that the number is way higher than what they're saying and it's all just a big cover-up 🤑. And don't even get me started on how Israel's treating those detainees... some high-ranking officials boasting about abusive practices? 🙄 That's not surprising at all since we already know that Israel's been doing this for years and nobody's ever held them accountable 💸.

But, I guess what really gets my goat is when people say that human rights experts are saying that Israel's policy of killing detainees is basically impossible to determine the full extent of because of its scale... yeah right 🤷‍♂️. Like, how can you not know if you're killing 1000 people a year? It's not like it's some super complicated math problem 🤓.

And have you seen the stats on the number of prisoners still held without charge or trial? 😲 1,000+ and counting... that's just straight up insane 🚀. I mean, what even is the point of having a prison system if you're just gonna keep people locked up forever without even trying them? 🤷‍♂️

🤕 man... this is just heartbreaking. its all about perspective i guess. they say 98 deaths are a big number but in reality its like one every 4 days... hows that for slow motion trauma? we gotta ask ourselves what kind of system allows for this to happen on a regular basis? and the worst part is, it feels like business as usual for those in power. thats where the real crisis lies. not in the numbers but in our collective apathy or ignorance towards it. we all need to wake up & take notice.
