Australian Open: Gigi Salmon previews Melbourne Grand Slam and predicts Jannik Sinner, Amanda Anisimova to claim titles

Australian Open: The stage is set for a thrilling Grand Slam tournament in Melbourne as the world's top players prepare to clash on the court.

For those who missed it, a remarkable amateur player from Sydney named Jordan Smith has already claimed A$1m at the one-point slam event, beating defending champion Jannik Sinner and two-time slam finalist Amanda Anisimova along the way. The Grand Slam is always looking for ways to boost attendance, with this revamped mixed doubles event giving 'regular' people like you and me a chance to dream of competing against the world's best.

Sky Sports Tennis journalist Gigi Salmon previews the 2026 Australian Open, predicting that Jannik Sinner and Amanda Anisimova will claim their respective titles. Sabalenka is looking strong, having claimed her 22nd career title in Brisbane. However, the women's draw has more jeopardy with more contenders for the top prize.

In a tricky draw, Emma Raducanu faces Taylah Preston, while Katie Boulter must face Belinda Bencic after avoiding qualifying through injury. Cam Norrie will face Benjamin Bonzi, and Jacob Fearnley draws Kamil Majchrzak in his main draw debut.

The real question on everyone's lips is: can anyone break up the Grand Slam winning duopoly of Sinner and Alcaraz? The answer remains to be seen, but Gigi Salmon is predicting that these two will lift their respective trophies.

Omg, I'm so excited for this Aus Open 🤩🎾! That Jordan Smith from Sydney is literally a superstar in the making 💥. A million bucks for an amateur player? Mind blown! And I love the new mixed doubles event – can't wait to watch the pros play with some regular people like me 😄.

Gigi Salmon's predictions have got me hyped, but you never know what can happen in tennis 🤷‍♀️. Sabalenka looks strong, no doubt about that, but those women's contenders are giving it a go 💪! Raducanu vs Preston and Boulter vs Bencic are gonna be intense matches 🔥.

I'm all for the duopoly of Sinner and Alcaraz to get broken 🤔. Can't wait to see who'll come out on top. May the best player win, fingers crossed 🤞!

I think it's awesome that Jordan Smith got a chance to play in the slam event 🎾💪! As for the main draw, Sabalenka does look super strong, and I'm curious to see how Emma Raducanu and Taylah Preston match up 🤔👀. The new mixed doubles event sounds like an incredible opportunity for regular people like us to get a taste of what it's like to play against the best 💕. Can't wait to see how Jannik Sinner and Alcaraz do this year - both of them are super talented, but can anyone give them a run for their money? 🤔

I'm low-key rooting for Jordan Smith 🤣 to keep his momentum going, but let's be real, he's gonna have a tougher time beating the top dogs this year 😅. On a more serious note (just for a sec), it'd be awesome if they made that mixed doubles event available to non-pros like us, I mean who wouldn't wanna hang out with Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic on the court 🤩? The women's draw is looking intense too, Sabalenka's got the skills but Emma Raducanu's been on fire lately 🔥. And can we talk about how tired those guys look after their grueling matches? I mean, I'm just sipping on a coffee and I'm already feeling like I need a nap 😴. Guess that's what happens when you're competing against the best in the world!

I'm hyped for this year's Australian Open 🎾👏! First off, congrats to Jordan Smith for going all the way in the slam event and raking in A$1m - talk about a career booster 💸! The new mixed doubles event is gonna bring some fresh energy to the tournament. Can't wait to see more 'regular' people compete against the world's best 🤩.

Gigi Salmon's prediction has me intrigued, but I think Sabalenka's on fire 🔥 and could give those top spots a run for their money. Emma Raducanu vs Taylah Preston is gonna be an epic match-up 🎯! And what's up with the guys' draws - can Norrie and Bonzi take down Sinner and Alcaraz? 💪 The question on everyone's mind: will we see some new faces at the top of the leaderboard this year? 🤔

🤔 I mean, what's going on with all this new-fangled mixed doubles business at the Aussie Open? In my day, we just had singles, and if you wanted to play doubles, you played with your friends or joined a local club. This 'new' event seems like a bunch of hooey, just an excuse for them to sell more tickets and whatnot... 🤑 I swear, back in the 90s, we used to watch tennis on our own TV sets, not on some fancy sports channel. It's all just too much for this old dude 😂.

🤔 I'm still getting hyped thinking about Jordan Smith's amazing win at the Aussie Open 🎾! A million bucks for a one-point slam event, wow that's life-changing 💸. But seriously, the Grand Slam has been doing some cool stuff to get more people involved in tennis, like this revamped mixed doubles event 🤝. Anyone can dream of competing against the best, even if it's just for a day 😎. Now I'm wondering, what's holding back the likes of Emma Raducanu and Katie Boulter from having those big wins? 🤔
