Bougie NYC cinema just hit a wild new price high — $200 per person for dinner and a movie

Luxury Filmhouse Opens in Manhattan with a Hefty Price Tag.

The Metro Cinema, founded by Alamo Drafthouse's Tim League, has opened its doors in Manhattan's upscale Chelsea neighborhood, offering an exclusive movie-going experience that comes at a premium price. The luxury cinema boasts 20 private screening rooms for four to 20 guests, equipped with plush seating and state-of-the-art sound systems.

To complement the cinematic experience, Metro Cinema also offers gourmet dining options, including a multi-course meal that can cost up to $100 per person. Chef Joshua Guarneri's culinary creations, such as peri peri prawns and lamb tongue carpaccio, are designed to pair perfectly with blockbuster films.

The prices at Metro Cinema are steep, with some screenings costing upwards of $1,200 for groups of six people. Even the standard menu options come with a hefty price tag, ranging from $26 cheese boards to $38 steak frites in the commissary restaurant.

Despite the high costs, fans of gourmet movie experiences are willing to shell out top dollar for an exclusive and luxurious experience. The cinema's exclusivity is matched only by Dubai's Reel Cinema platinum suites, which offer a more affordable option at around $50 per person.

The opening of Metro Cinema coincides with news that the beloved Metro Theater on the Upper West Side is undergoing renovations, dropping its name in favor of a new identity as the Uptown Film Center. The center promises to bring a new level of sophistication and glamour to arthouse cinema in Manhattan, with plans for five screens, an education center, and a cafe.

For now, however, Metro Cinema stands as a beacon of luxury and exclusivity in New York City's cinematic landscape, catering to those who are willing to pay top dollar for a truly unique movie-going experience.

I'm not sure if I'd want to shell out $1,200 for a movie screening... that sounds like way too much dough 🤑! I mean, I love watching movies as much as the next person, but I don't think I could justify spending that kind of cash just for a flick. And $100 per person for dinner? That's more like a fancy date night than a regular cinema experience 😏. But hey, if you're into that sorta thing and want to feel like royalty while watching your fave film, go for it! 💁‍♀️

I'm thinkin' that $1,200 price tag is a bit steep even for a fancy movie night 🤯. I mean, I get it, luxury and exclusivity come with a cost, but come on! 😂 Can't they just keep the prices reasonable enough so anyone can enjoy the cinema? Like, who's gonna say no to a multi-course meal paired with a blockbuster film? 🍴🍿

But at the same time, I'm all about supporting local businesses and trying new experiences. If people are willin' to pay that price, then I guess Metro Cinema is doin' somethin' right 😊. I just wish they'd offer some more affordable options for those on a budget... or maybe they could have a 'cheaper night out' special? 🤑 Just a thought!

🤔 I'm tellin' ya, this is all about control, fam 🤑. They're takin' us on a wild ride with these luxury cinemas and overpriced menus. It's like they're tryin' to create a whole new class system where the rich get richer. And don't even get me started on the names, Metro Cinema sounds like some kind of government experiment 🕵️‍♂️. I mean, what's next? Gourmet food and drink paired with subliminal messages in the flicks? 🍿👀 I'm watchin' this closely, you can bet your bottom dollar on that 😏

OMG u guys i just got back from metro cinema with my squad & OMG the private screening rooms r insane 🤯 they have these comfy seats like u would find in a private jet lol we got the multi-course meal which was SOOO good i think its worth the $100 per person lol we also had the cheese board for $26 and it was literally just cheese but hey at least its artisanal 🧀🍷 my friend spilled wine on her dress btw anyway idk about ppl paying over $1200 for a movie lol but if u can afford it & wanna have a luxurious experience then go 4 it 💸

omg is this seriously for real? $1200 for a movie?! like what even is the point of that? can't they just watch it on hulu or something? and what's with the fancy food prices too? $26 cheese board? come on, just make some nachos and call it a day 🤣🍿 i mean, i get it if you wanna be all high-end and stuff, but who am i kidding? most people are gonna be like "meh" to that kinda price tag. maybe they'll get the fancy crowd or whatever, but the rest of us are good with our regular ol' movie theater experience 🤷‍♀️

I'm literally dying over the prices at Metro Cinema 🤯! $100 per person for dinner? That's insane 😱! And don't even get me started on the $1,200 screening costs - I'd need to be rich or invite like 5 friends to justify that price tag 💸. But I guess if you're looking for a super exclusive and luxurious experience, Metro Cinema is definitely the place to go 🎥. Although, I have to say, their prices are kinda making me want to start planning my own movie nights at home with just some friends 👫... just kidding (or am I?) 😜.

I'm still trying to figure out how they manage to make $100+ per person for dinner feel like "gourmet". Like, I get it, it's a luxury cinema and all that, but come on! You can get a decent meal at a mid-range restaurant in the city for under $20. And don't even get me started on those prices for the screenings – $1,200? For 6 people? That's just crazy talk 🤯. I mean, I'd love to try out Metro Cinema and all, but it's just not something I can justify spending that kind of cash on. Anyone else feel like they need a private island or something to watch movies in the style of this place? 😂

I'm so curious about this new luxury filmhouse, Metro Cinema 🎥🍴. I mean, $1,200 for a group of six people? That's like eating at a fancy restaurant every week for a year! But hey, if you're made of money and want to splurge on a cinematic experience that's more like fine dining, then go for it! The private screening rooms sound amazing 🛋️🎬, and who wouldn't want to indulge in gourmet food while watching a blockbuster film? 😋 On the other hand, I'm not sure if this kind of luxury cinema is really for everyone. For most people, $100 per person for dinner feels like a small fortune 💸. But hey, if you're feeling flush and want to treat yourself, then Metro Cinema might just be your new favorite spot 🎥👍

omg 😲 I'm so down for a fancy cinema experience but $1,200 for 6 people?!?! that's just crazy 🤑 my friends and I would love to try it out but i think we'd have to plan a birthday party or something lol 🎉 how do they even calculate the price per head tho? 💸 it seems like they're charging per person vs per ticket... 🤔

OMG, I'm low-key impressed by this luxury cinema, but also kinda broke 😂! $1,200 for a movie night? That's like, crazy pricey 🤑! But at the same time, I get why people would wanna splurge on an exclusive experience with gourmet food and comfy seating 🍴👌. It's like, they're offering a whole new level of cinema-going luxury that's hard to resist 💁‍♀️. And I love how there's also a more affordable option in Dubai... that's nice to see some competition 💸. Anyway, it'll be interesting to see if Metro Cinema becomes the go-to spot for special occasions or just a fun night out with friends 🎥👫!

I'm thinkin', what's goin' on here? You got this one rich dude, Tim League, openin' up his swanky cinema, and people are willin' to shell out $1,200 for a night at the movies with friends 🤑. Now, I ain't sayin' it's bad, but I gotta wonder if that's just a slippery slope. Are we startin' to see more of these luxury cinemas poppin' up all over the city? And what about accessibility? What about those who can't afford this fancy-schmancy experience? It feels like exclusivity for the elite, and that don't sit well with me 😒.

And on a related note, I'm thinkin' 'bout them gentrification vibes. The Upper West Side is changin', Metro Theater's gettin' revamped, and now we got this new Uptown Film Center comin' in. It feels like the city's bein' rebranded all over again 💸. Is it about bringin' some culture to the table, or just another way to drive up property values? I need more context on that one 🤔

🎥💸 I think it's crazy how expensive the private screening rooms at Metro Cinema are 🤯! Like, $1,200 for 6 people? That's just not fair 😅. And the food prices aren't much better 💸. I mean, who can afford to spend that much on a cheese board? But I guess if you want the ultimate movie experience with top-notch amenities and service, it might be worth the splurge 🤩. What do u think about this new luxury cinema tho? 😊

Ugh, $1,200 for a movie night? Are you kidding me?! 🤯 I get that it's supposed to be a luxurious experience, but come on! You can't just slap a price tag on exclusivity and expect people to shell out that kind of cash. And don't even get me started on the $38 steak frites... that's just basic menu stuff, not some gourmet masterpiece 🤢. I mean, what's next? $10 for a bag of popcorn?! 🍿 This is why I'll never set foot in Metro Cinema - it's all about lining Tim League's pockets with cash 💸.

I gotta say, $1,200 for a movie night with friends? 🤯 that's like, crazy rich! I mean, I love a good blockbuster as much as the next person, but come on... can't they just keep it at a reasonable price point or offer some cheaper options? 🤔

But, you know, if people are willing to shell out that kind of cash for an exclusive experience, then who am I to judge? 😊 It's like, they're not just watching a movie, they're having a luxurious dinner and a private screening... it's like a whole different world! 🌎

I'm actually kinda curious about the gourmet dining options, though... per i peri prawns? 🤯 that sounds like some fancy schmancy stuff. And $100 a head? That's more than I'd pay for a birthday dinner with my squad! 😂

I'm not sure if $1,200 is too much for a group of friends to shell out for a night out at the cinema. I mean, it's like paying for a private dinner party and then getting to watch a movie 🤔. But at the same time, I can see why people would be willing to splurge on an experience that's so exclusive and luxurious. I've been there myself, spending way more than I should have on a fancy coffee date 😂. The thing is, if you're not used to spending this kind of money, it might feel like too much. But for those who are, it's probably worth every penny 💸.

Ugh, $1,200 for 6 people? That's insane! 🤯 I don't care how fancy the seats or sound system are, there's no way I'm paying that much just to watch a movie. And an extra $100 per person for food? No thanks! 😂 They're basically charging you to breathe in their cinema. And what's up with the prices on the menu too? A cheese board is like $26? That's not even a good size 🧀👎. I'd rather watch movies at home with my own snacks and comfy couch, no thanks to this overpriced cinema experience 😴

I mean, $1,200 per screening is crazy 🤯... like, I get it, luxurious experience and all that, but come on! Can't they just offer some decent deals or discounts? I'm all about trying new things, but this price tag is just out of my budget 🤑... remember when the Alamo Drafthouse was all about affordable movies and a fun atmosphere? This new Metro Cinema thing feels like it's catering to the rich and famous, which kinda sucks for regular people 👎. And what's up with the $38 steak frites in the commissary restaurant? That's like eating out at a fancy restaurant just to watch a movie 🍴... maybe they should consider offering some more affordable options? 😐

Man... I just went to see a film at the new Metro Cinema and it was literally insane how pricey it was 🤯! I mean, I get that luxury comes with a price tag, but $1,200 for a group of six people is just ridiculous 💸. And don't even get me started on the food... $100 per person for dinner? That's like eating out at a fancy restaurant every night for a month 🤦‍♀️.

But, I gotta admit, the cinema itself was straight fire 🔥. The private screening rooms were so comfy and the sound system was insane 🎵. It felt like I was in my own little world for two hours. And, hey, if you're looking to splurge and treat yourself, then Metro Cinema is definitely worth it 💸.

The Uptown Film Center renovation news is cool too... more options for arthouse cinema are always a good thing 🎥. Maybe the price gap between Metro Cinema and Reel Cinema will make things more accessible to us regular folks... a guy can dream 😂.

🎥💸 I'm not surprised by the hefty price tag at Metro Cinema, considering the level of opulence and exclusivity on offer. The private screening rooms and gourmet dining options seem tailored to cater to a niche market that values luxury and sophistication above all else. While $1,200 for a group of six might be out of reach for many, it's clear that fans of high-end cinema are willing to splurge for an unparalleled experience. I do find it interesting, however, that the prices at Metro Cinema don't quite match those at Dubai's Reel Cinema platinum suites - perhaps a sign that luxury is relative and can vary greatly depending on location?
