A 20-year-old Bronx man, Frederick Green, has been charged with attempting to murder New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd and assaulting him after shooting him outside a Manhattan restaurant in November. The incident occurred on West 38th Street at around 2 a.m., where Boyd was walking with two other teammates and a friend from Texas.
According to prosecutors, the group was mocked by a group of men outside the Sei Less venue, leading to a heated exchange that escalated into physical altercations and gunfire. Green allegedly shot Boyd while wearing a mask, before fleeing the scene in a white BMW. Fortunately, Boyd survived the attack but suffered serious injuries, including a bullet fragment lodged in his pulmonary artery.
Police say surveillance footage captured the incident, as well as T-Mobile records placing Green's phone near the restaurant at the time of the shooting. Two shell casings were also recovered from the scene. A judge has ordered Green to be held without bail pending further court proceedings.
Green turned himself in to authorities in Buffalo a day after his arraignment on Tuesday, where he was charged with attempted murder and assault. His girlfriend's apartment had been used as a hiding spot by Green before he surrendered. The Jets team has yet to comment on the incident or provide any statement from Boyd.
The investigation is ongoing, but it appears that Green acted in retaliation for the mocking incident outside the restaurant, where he allegedly said he would "take care of" the group making fun of his friends.
