By land, sea and air, travel around NYC uneven following winter storm

Chaos Lingers in NYC as Winter Storm Wanes, Leaving Residents Scrambling to Rebuild.

Travelers across New York City and into New Jersey were left reeling Tuesday, as the weekend winter storm showed no signs of relenting. With three major regional airports still grappling with disruptions, the travel landscape was far from smooth.

At JFK Airport, officials reported that the AirTrain had resumed service to all stations, but its schedule was severely limited. Meanwhile, LaGuardia's AirTrain ranked among the most delayed and cancelled flights nationwide, with 35 delays and 40 cancellations on Tuesday morning alone. The Newark Liberty International Airport wasn't far behind, with the Newark AirTrain operating at reduced levels.

Disruptions were felt across all modes of transportation, including ferries, which struggled to dock at some landings due to ice buildup on the East River. The NYC Ferry Service warned that service to other routes could be suspended or delayed without notice.

The Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North systems, meanwhile, faced scattered delays and cancellations as a result of winter-related switch issues. Passengers were advised to check for flight status before heading out, with some airlines ranking among the most "miserable" in the country due to disruptions. Bus riders could monitor service changes at the MTA website.

NJ Transit train service remained severely limited, while bus services returned to regular schedules – but officials cautioned commuters to expect delays on icy roads. The state's paratransit service, AccessLink, also faced challenges.

As the city began to dig out from under a foot of snow, drivers were still grappling with the aftermath of the storm. NYC's alternate-side parking rules remained suspended, leaving residents scrambling to find parking spots.

The situation was fluid, with updates possible as crews worked to clear tracks and restore normal service to Amtrak passengers stuck in transit limbo. For now, it seemed that New York City – and its travelers – were left to pick up the pieces of a storm-battered landscape.

🌨️ ugh i know ppl are super stressed rn but like 1st off winter storms r gonna happen & we need 2 b prepared 😒 idk why ppl get so caught up in the drama about flight delays or subway closures... we got roads 2 clear & snow 2 shovel 🚮 at least nyc's on my mind when it comes 2 chaos lol like i'm stuck w/ 1 foot of snow in my apt & can't even find a parking spot near me 🤣 still, gotta respect the hardworkin' crews out there tryna get us back 2 normal 🙏

omg u guys! 😂 i cant even... i was supposed 2 go 2 nyc 4 a friend's bday party but this snowstorm ruined everythin! 🌨️ they had 2 postpone it till next wk nd now theres still so much mess everywhere 🤯 i swear, new york city doesnt know how 2 handle a lil snow ❄️♀️ the airports r all messed up too, can u even believe jfk's airtrain is still not fully operational? 🚫😡 and dont even get me started on la guardia's delays... 35?!?! 😲 what am i s'posed 2 do now?! 😩

Ugh, NYC is such a mess right now 🌨️😩 I mean, I love the city, but this winter storm has been insane! I'm still trying to figure out how to get my favorite coffee shop fix without having to deal with crazy traffic and parking nightmares ☕🚗 Anyone else having to navigate the streets with ice buildup everywhere? And don't even get me started on the flight delays 🛫😩 My friends and I were supposed to meet up in NYC for a weekend getaway, but now we're stuck waiting until next week. Guess we'll just have to take advantage of all the great food and museums online instead 📚🍴

🤔 I mean, a foot of snow is just crazy for NYC right? But what's even crazier is how quickly people forgot about the chaos when they finally got their power back on 📦. Like, where did all that energy go? And don't even get me started on the traffic - alternate-side parking rules suspended, yeah sure like that's ever going to happen again 😂. I'm just waiting for the "rebuilding" process to start, but I've got a feeling it's gonna be a looong road ahead 🚧.

omg what's up with ny city rn 😩💨 the snow is literally everywhere! i'm kinda worried about the ppl who got stuck on the train or at the airport, like, what r they gonna do 2 b without their flights? 🤔 and idk about the roads, they look super slippery...i hope everyone stays safe out there 👣🌟

Ugh, I'm so over this winter storm mess in NYC 🌨️😒. First off, can they get their act together with those airports? Like, three major airports are still having issues? And don't even get me started on LaGuardia's AirTrain - 35 delays and 40 cancellations?! That's just ridiculous. And what's up with the NYC Ferry Service not being able to dock at some landings due to ice buildup? Like, come on! It's not that hard to clear out some ice 😡.

And have you tried trying to find parking spots in this city? Forget about it 🚗😩. Alternate-side parking rules suspended and everything. I swear, I've been driving around for hours looking for a spot and all I can see are snow-covered streets everywhere ❄️.

I feel so bad for the commuters who got stuck on trains or buses because of these winter issues ⏰😤. Like, can't they just have some reliable transportation options for once?! It's not that hard to fix some snow-covered tracks or get buses running again 🙄.

Anyway, I guess it's back to the daily grind in NYC... ugh 😒.

omg i cant even imagine bein on one of those delayed flights lol 🤯 still remember when flights were like 30 mins late instead of hours 😂 anyway, i feel so bad for all these people stuck in transit they must be losin their minds ❄️ ugh NYC winter storm is the worst 😒 but at least the parks are all snowy and pretty now 🏞️

Ugh, I'm so over these winter storms 🌨️😩! Can't believe we're still dealing with all this mess 2 weeks later. I mean, I get it, snow's gotta melt eventually, but can't they just get everything back on track? I was stuck at JFK for like 3 hours last night 'cause my flight got cancelled. And don't even get me started on trying to find parking spots... anyone else have to deal with that? The MTA should really prioritize the regular folks over the airlines and NJ Transit 🤦‍♂️. At least I can take comfort in knowing I'm not alone 😂, right?

man this snowstorm is taking a toll on the city 🌨️😓 nyc airport delays are crazy i remember when JFK was supposed to be fixed already, now it's like they're still figuring things out 😂 meanwhile people just wanna get their lives back on track after being stuck for days ugh and parking spots are hard to find lol alt side parking rules can't come soon enough 🚗🏃‍♀️ i feel bad 4 all those commuters who had to deal w/ the snow nyc ferry service too? what's up w/ those ferries? 😕

Ugh 🤯 my life is ruined! I was supposed to take a flight outta JFK yesterday but they cancelled it like 3 times already! And don't even get me started on trying to get around the city... I had to walk for hours and just got back home now. The roads were so bad, can't believe the snowfall was only a foot 🤦‍♂️ and people are still saying they need more winter gear? Like come on! And what's up with the alternate-side parking rules?! It's been out since like 3 days ago already, how am I s'posed to find parking spot?! Just so frustrated 😩
