Charley Hull and Lexi Thompson's teammates set scoring record at Grant Thornton Invitational
Mixed teams scored 17-under 55 on day one to claim a new record. The opening round, which started in the scramble format, saw two teams break away from the pack with impressive performances.
Hull, paired with Michael Brennan, was among those to post an incredible score of 17 under par after 18 holes. The pair's performance included 13 consecutive birdies and eagles on certain holes, although they settled for pars on the 16th and 18th.
Lexi Thompson and Wyndham Clark also excelled, scoring 55 points and taking a two-shot lead over Lauren Coughlin and Andrew Novak, who trailed behind by one point.
Thompson and Clark made birdie or eagle on nine of their last ten holes but made par on the 16th hole.
The duo broke away from previous records set in this mixed-team event, which featured PGA and LPGA Tour players. This was a notable feat as the new record is just one shot better than the last recorded score three years ago.
Defending champions Jake Knapp and Patty Tavatanakit struggled with consistency and are four shots off the pace after scoring 59 points on day one.
