Convincing fans he is right choice as Browns coach won’t be easy for Monken | Jeff Schudel

Browns' New Head Coach Faces Steep Rebuilding Task as Skeptical Fan Base Waits for Proof of Todd Monken's Credibility.

The Cleveland Browns have made their choice, naming 59-year-old Todd Monken the new head coach. Monken sold himself to team owner Jimmy Haslam and general manager Andrew Berry with a brilliant offensive mind, but it remains to be seen whether this will translate to success on the field.

As OC at the University of Georgia, Monken led the Bulldogs to two consecutive national championships in 2021 and 2022, while with the Baltimore Ravens, he helped Lamar Jackson throw for over 4,100 yards and 41 touchdowns last season. However, convincing the team's defensive players that Monken is the right man for the job won't be easy.

Browns' former DC Jim Schwartz, a finalist for the coaching job, was reportedly furious when he was snubbed in favor of Monken. Schwartz has since stated his intention to leave the Browns despite still being under contract through 2026, highlighting a deep-seated distrust among some players and staff members.

While Berry and Haslam have given Monken the opportunity to lead, there are valid concerns about his ability to unite the entire organization. With the team's defense in shambles, the biggest challenge for Monken will be restoring order behind the line.

One positive sign is the hiring of George Warhop as offensive line coach, who worked under Monken at the Ravens. This move could be a key factor in developing quarterback Shedeur Sanders and helping him reach his full potential.

However, with Deshaun Watson still on the team and struggling to regain his form, Monken faces an uphill battle to turn around the Browns' fortunes. The franchise has won only one playoff game in 27 years and hasn't enjoyed back-to-back winning seasons since 1986-89.

As Monken takes the reins of a team that went 8-26 over the last two seasons, it's essential for him to prove himself as more than just an expert on offense. With skepticism from fans and staff still prevalent, Monken will need time to build trust and restore confidence in his leadership abilities.

The Browns' new head coach has a tough road ahead, but with a solid offensive mind and some positive first moves, there's hope that he can turn the team around and bring some much-needed stability to 76 Lou Groza Boulevard.

🤔 I'm low-key excited about Todd Monken taking over as head coach of the Browns! 🏈 He's got a solid track record from his OC days, and that's something they really needed. But let's be real, it's gonna take more than just a good offense to turn this team around. Defense is like, super key in the NFL, you feel? And it sounds like Monken's got some work to do on that end of things. 🤷‍♀️ I'm loving the hiring of George Warhop as OL coach tho - he's a big plus! 🙌 And hey, Deshaun Watson is a talented dude, so hopefully Monken can help him get back on track. 💪 The Browns have got some tough road ahead, but if anyone can do it, Monken might be the one! ⚡

Monken gotta prove himself big time 🤔💪. I mean, coming from Georgia and Ravens is one thing, but this is Browns we talking about. They been strugglin' for years, and fans are skeptical 'bout change 😐. I like the hire of Warhop tho, that's a good move 👍. Sanders got potential, and with a solid O line, he can make some magic happen 🎩. But Monken needs to fix defense ASAP 🔒. They been a disaster for years, and it's gonna take some serious work to turn that around 💪. Can't have Watson slippin' away if Monken ain't gettin' it done 🤕. Gotta see how this all plays out, but I'm keepin' an eye 👀.

"Believe you can and you're halfway there." 🏈💪 It's gonna be tough for Monken, but if he's got a solid game plan and can build trust with his players, I think the Browns can make some magic happen. Deshaun Watson's still got it in him, and with Warhop on board, they might just be able to get that offense firing on all cylinders. It's gonna be a wild ride in Cleveland!

idk about this Monken guy... 59 yrs old & just happens to be a genius coach on paper lol 🤔 his track record is impressive but we need to see it translate to actual wins, not just stats. and what's up with Schwartz getting snubbed for the job? sounds like there's some drama brewing behind the scenes 📰 Schwartz might know more about what's really going on in that organization than meets the eye... also gotta wonder how Monken plans to fix the defense since it's been a disaster for years 😬 Warhop as o-line coach is a positive though, but can he help Watson get back on track? 💪

🤔 I mean, can't say I'm surprised by the choice of Monken as head coach, you know? He did have some impressive credentials coming out of college and with the Ravens. But at the same time, I think it's gonna be tough for him to win over the whole team, especially after Schwartz left because of this snub thing 🤷‍♂️.

I feel like Monken needs to prove himself on the field first, rather than just relying on his offense skills. The defense has been a major problem for the Browns, and I think it's gonna take some time for him to figure out how to fix that. But hey, the hiring of Warhop as OC is a good sign, so maybe that'll help.

One thing I do worry about is Deshaun Watson still being around... his past issues have really hurt the team, and if Monken can't get him back on track, it's gonna be tough to make any real progress. 🤞 But overall, I think Monken's got some talent around him, so maybe he'll surprise us all with a turnaround season! 😊

OMG, I'm low-key excited about this new coach thingy! 🤔 I mean, Todd Monken has some serious credentials from his days at Georgia and Ravens, but you can't just put all the faith in one guy, especially with a defense that's been, well, not so great lately 😅.

But hey, George Warhop is back as O-line coach, which is like, super positive vibes for me! 🤩 Maybe it'll help Shedeur Sanders get his groove back and lead us to some wins 🏈. And Deshaun Watson's still on the team, so that's a plus too 💪.

I feel for the fans who are skeptical about Monken right now, but I think he's got this! 🤞 It's like when our teacher assigns us a tricky math problem and we're all like "noooo!" 😂 But then we sit down, break it down, and voilà! Magic happens 💫. I'm rooting for Monken to bring some magic to the Browns 🏈🔮.

idk why ppl r so skeptical about todd monken lol 🤷‍♂️ i think hes got this! all those yrs of experience under his belt gotta count for something, right? dont get me wrong, the defense is a mess and all, but monken's offensive genius is legit 🔥 he's proven it at uga & with lamar jackson, so im rooting 4 him 🤞

I just got back from the most random trip to the beach last weekend 🏖️. I was thinking about how the water is so clear when you're standing on the shore, but then you look down and it's all murky below... like life, right? 😂 One thing that really stood out was how many seagulls were everywhere! They're just so... persistent? Like, can't they see I'm trying to relax over here?! 🐦😒

I'm still trying to get my head around the NFL 🤔 I mean, who is this Todd Monken guy? Did he coach in college or something? I thought Lamar Jackson was already a pro 🤷‍♂️ And why did Jim Schwartz leave the Browns like that? 😒 His team's defense is trash... when will they get it together? 🔴 Can someone explain to me how the NFL season works again? Like, do they just play for 8 months straight or something? 🤯

🤔 The Browns' decision to name Todd Monken their new head coach is like trying to put together a puzzle with missing pieces – it's uncertain whether all the parts will fit together seamlessly. I mean, come on, Monken had an incredible stint as OC at Georgia, leading them to back-to-back national championships! He also helped Lamar Jackson have a monster season in Baltimore. That's some serious pedigree right there.

But here's the thing: convincing the entire team that Monken is the right guy for the job won't be easy. There's already been a major hurdle with former DC Jim Schwartz leaving due to concerns about Monken's leadership abilities. And let's not forget Deshaun Watson, who's still struggling to regain his form after his suspension. I mean, it's like trying to build a house on shaky ground – you need solid foundations before you can start adding the fancy features.

That being said, I do think there are some positive signs for Monken. George Warhop's hiring as OLC coach could be a game-changer for developing quarterback Shedeur Sanders and helping him reach his full potential. And let's not discount the fact that Monken has a proven track record on offense – he knows how to get yards and points on the board.

So, can Monken turn around the Browns' fortunes? It's definitely possible, but it'll take time, patience, and some serious hard work from both Monken and his team. The Browns need stability now more than ever, and if Monken can deliver that, I'd be thrilled to see what the future holds for this franchise. 🌟
