Despite rumors linking Red Sox to Kyle Schwarber, some in Boston’s ‘inner circle’ reportedly want Pete Alonso

Boston Red Sox Front Office Weighing Options for Power-Hitting Slugger Amid Schwarber and Alonso Rumors.

The Red Sox are reportedly considering two high-profile free agents who can provide a boost to their power-hitting lineup. Kyle Schwarber, the former Boston outfielder, has been the team's top target in the offseason, but some members of the club's inner circle believe that Pete Alonso would be a better fit.

Schwarber was a key player for the Red Sox during his brief tenure in Boston last season. He helped prolong their playoff run and impressed with 56 home runs, 132 RBI, and an .928 OPS. However, the team may face challenges with Schwarber's position, as he primarily played designated hitter last season.

On the other hand, Alonso is a full-time first baseman who has consistently delivered power at the plate. He hit 38 home runs and drove in 126 runs this past season with the Mets, while batting .272 and boasting an .871 OPS. This could alleviate concerns about the Red Sox's outfield depth, as they would have a more established presence at first base.

The Red Sox are projected to spend big in the offseason, exceeding the competitive balance tax threshold. Signing Alonso or Schwarber would require significant investment, with estimates suggesting a four-year deal worth up to $150 million for either player. The team is reportedly considering both options, but it remains to be seen which one will ultimately get the nod from the front office.

Ultimately, the Red Sox have a clear need for power-hitting production in their lineup. With either Alonso or Schwarber on board, they would undoubtedly become a more formidable threat at the plate. As the offseason progresses, fans can expect more updates on the team's plans and potential targets.

OMG I'm so excited about this one 🤩! The Red Sox need some serious power in their lineup ASAP, and either Alonso or Schwarber would be a GAME CHANGER 💥. I mean, 56 home runs from Kyle Schwarber last season? Mind blown 🤯! And don't even get me started on Pete Alonso's numbers this past season... 38 homers and a .871 OPS? Yessssss please 🙌. The thing is, both players have their pros and cons, but I think the Red Sox need to take a chance on someone who can bring that power from the first base position. And with them reportedly willing to break the bank for either player, it's clear they're serious about making a push for another championship 🏆. Can't wait to see what happens!

omg i'm literally DYING if the Sox get Pete Alonso!!!1! he's just so underrated and i think he'd be PERFECT for the team 😍🔥 i mean don't get me wrong about Kyle Schwarber too, but Alonso is like a whole different level of power hitter 🤯 just imagine him at first base and us having that established presence in the lineup 🙌💪 i'm willing to shell out those $150 million if it means we can make some noise at the plate this season 🤑🔥 come on Sox front office, don't disappoint us! 😭

man this is gonna be a wild ride for the Sox, gotta say tho i think alonso makes way more sense than schwarber i mean dont get me wrong schwarber had some sick numbers last season but at DH he's not exactly a 5-tool player ya know? alonso on the other hand is a full-time first baseman who can hit and field, thats a luxury for any team to have. plus with the way the Sox are projected to spend in the offseason its gonna be tough for them to pass up on someone who can give them real power in their lineup

idk why the Sox would pass up schwarber tho, he showed what he could do in boston last year 🤔... i mean dont get me wrong alonso is a beast but schwarber was already makin moves for the red sox... they gotta build on that momentum 💪... Alonso is more of a plug n play at first base, which might be a nice change from how schwarber played dh most of last year 🤷‍♂️

😐 It seems like the Red Sox are having trouble deciding between two big-time hitters. Either way, it's gonna be interesting to see how they shape up for next season 🤔 "The best-laid schemes of mice and men often go awry." - Robert Burns
