Twitter's iconic bird logo has been replaced with an image of a Shiba Inu, a nod to the joke cryptocurrency Dogecoin. The change comes after CEO Elon Musk tweeted "as promised" on Monday afternoon, referencing a year-old conversation in which another user suggested that Musk replace the Twitter bird with a doge.
The move coincided with Musk's request to have a $258 billion racketeering lawsuit against him thrown out, accusing him of running a pyramid scheme to support Dogecoin. Lawyers for Musk and Tesla have described the lawsuit as "fanciful work of fiction" over Musk's tweets about the cryptocurrency.
Dogecoin, created in 2013 as a joke by software engineers, has seen its price surge more than 20% over the past 24 hours. The cryptocurrency was trading just under 8 cents on Monday morning before the logo change, which could potentially be permanent β or not. Musk is known for using Twitter to troll both his fans and critics.
The Shiba Inu mascot used in the new logo mimics the "doge" meme that became popular a decade ago. The name of Dogecoin is also a nod to this meme, featuring a dog surrounded by Comic Sans text in broken English.
