Don’t count on Baldur’s Gate 3 coming to Switch 2, as least for now

Nintendo Switch 2 owners can breathe a sigh of relief, as it seems Baldur's Gate 3 won't be making its way to their console anytime soon. In a recent Reddit AMA session, Larian Studio's CEO Swen Vicke dropped a bombshell, stating that the team would have loved to bring the highly-anticipated RPG to Switch 2, but ultimately, it was out of their hands.

The cryptic response from Vicke has left fans speculating about the reasons behind the absence. While he refused to point fingers directly at Wizards of the Coast, which owns the Dungeons and Dragons IP that Baldur's Gate 3 is set in, it's clear that there may be some tension between the two parties. On the other hand, Larian Studios' technical director Bert van Semmertier revealed that the studio has a soft spot for Nintendo consoles, having recently released Divinity: Original Sin 2 on Switch 2.

However, despite this positive statement from van Semmertier, it seems unlikely that Baldur's Gate 3 will make its way to the Nintendo Store anytime soon. The developer had previously announced that they would be focusing on other projects and wouldn't be developing any major content updates or expansions for the game. With no indication of a potential port in the works from Wizards of the Coast, it seems that fans will have to keep searching elsewhere for their fix of D&D goodness.

While it's still possible that Wizards of the Coast may hire another studio to pursue a port in the future, for now, it appears that Baldur's Gate 3 will remain exclusive to other platforms. For Switch 2 owners, this means that they'll have to look elsewhere for new games to get excited about – but hey, there are plenty of other great titles to choose from.

ugh so disappointed 🤕 i mean, i know its not meant to be on switch but still its a shame lol its like the best dnd game ever and now its gonna be stuck on pc and ps5 and xbox too 🤔 at least they said they have a soft spot for nintendo consoles tho 🙃 maybe one day we'll get lucky and it shows up 🚨

🤔 This is a classic case of a developer playing it safe and not wanting to ruffle any feathers 🚫. I mean, we all know how Wizards of the Coast feels about Nintendo consoles 😒. It's like they're saying, "We don't want to upset our own IP owners" 👊. But let's be real, this is just another example of a big player trying to maintain control over their exclusive titles 🤝. What I'd love to see is a developer who can say, "You know what? We're gonna make it work, no matter the platform!" 💪. Maybe someone like Microsoft or Sony would be more willing to take the risk and make Baldur's Gate 3 available on Switch 2 👀.

man thats a bummer! i was really hyped for baldur's gate 3 on switch 2, it would've been so sick to play that game on my nintendo... remember when divinity original sin 2 came out? that was a huge deal, and now larian studios is telling us they have a soft spot for nintendo consoles? sounds like wishful thinking to me 🤔 meanwhile we're stuck without another great d&d game on switch 2, guess i'll just have to go back to playing elder scroll 3 on my old pc...

awww man... I feel u, swt switch fans! no baldur's gate 3 on the horizon 🤕 it's like, we all got our hopes up and then poof, nope. Larian studios seems really cool tho, and they did release divinity: original sin 2 on switch 2, so maybe we'll get more nintendo love in the future 🎮 but for now, let's just focus on other awesome games out there 😊

I feel kinda bummed out that BG3 isn't coming to the Switch 2 🤔😐 I was super hyped about it and I know so many others who were too 💖 But at the same time, Bert van Semmertier said they have a soft spot for Nintendo consoles? That's still kinda cool in my book 😊 Maybe we'll get some other great game on Switch 2 soon? I mean, Divinity: Original Sin 2 is already there 🤩.

omg i just had the craziest dream last night, i was on a plane and it started raining cats and dogs 🌧️🐈😂 then i woke up thinking what if that's what's happening to nintendo switch 2 😜 anyway, have you guys tried those new pokemon cupcakes from dunkin donuts? they're actually pretty good 👅

I'm not surprised that BG3 is a no-go on the Switch 2 🤔. The fact that Larian Studios said they'd love to bring it over, but couldn't, makes you wonder what's really going on 🤑. Wizards of the Coast is pretty tight-lipped about their dealings with Nintendo and other devs, so we're left in the dark 🔮. I mean, I get it, BG3 is a big IP, but does that really justify keeping fans waiting? 🙄 Still, there are plenty of awesome games out for Switch 2 to enjoy, like Divinity: Original Sin 2, so it's not all bad 😊.

🤔 I'm kinda bummed about BG3 not coming to the Switch 2 tbh. I mean, I've been eyeing it since its announcement and was super hyped... now I'll just have to check out the other platforms 📺. Still, Larian Studios' experience with Divinity on the Switch 2 is a good sign that Nintendo isn't totally alien to them 😊. Maybe they're just focusing on other IPs for now? Don't know what's going on with Wizards of the Coast though... seems like it could be some drama 🤷‍♂️

man I was really hyped for bg3 on switch 2 lol 😂 guess not now 🤕 anyway its a bummer for fans but like larian studios did release divinity series on it so maybe they'll find another way to bring us the dnd goodness 👍 and honestly we gotta respect swen vicke's decision, he was clear about their priorities 🙏

🤔 so i'm kinda surprised to hear this... i mean, i know nintendo switch is a bit behind the times compared to playstation or xbox, but you'd think they'd want to bring out some big hitters like baldur's gate 3 to get more life into that console... and now it seems like we'll never see the game on switch 2 😔 maybe larian studios was gonna do a really cool thing with the d&d ip if they got the port through, idk... anyway, i guess switch owners will just have to keep an eye out for other nintendo games 🎮

🤔 so what's the deal with baldur's gate 3 on switch 2? i mean, larian studio seems really down to earth and stuff, but swen vicke just kinda dropped a bombshell without giving any details 🎮. it's like they're trying to say something without saying anything. and now we know that wizards of the coast is involved, which might be a factor in all this 🤝. still, i think larian studio would've been cool with developing for switch 2, especially after releasing divinity: original sin 2 on it 👍. but nope, it looks like fans are stuck playing it elsewhere 😐. guess we'll just have to keep searching for new games to get hyped about 🎮👀

I feel bad for the fans who were really hyped about Baldur's Gate 3 on Switch 2... 🤔 I mean, Larian Studios is usually all about Nintendo consoles and they did just release Divinity on it, so it was kinda surprising to hear that BG3 wouldn't be coming out. Maybe there was some technical issue or something? 🤷‍♂️ Still, no port in sight, so we'll just have to keep looking elsewhere... like Steam or Xbox, I guess 😊

🤔 I'm a bit bummed about Baldur's Gate 3 not coming to the Switch 2, but at the same time, I get it 🙅‍♂️. I mean, have you seen Divinity: Original Sin 2 on that console? It looks so sick! 😎 Bert van Semmertier was being totally chill about it too, which is kinda cool 😊. I think there's some legit reason why Wizards of the Coast might not want to port it over, but we'll just have to keep an eye out for other awesome games on the Switch 2 instead 📦💻

Ugh, I'm so done with these endless platform releases 🤯. One minute we're all hyped up thinking we'll see Baldur's Gate 3 on Switch 2, and the next Vicke just drops a bombshell saying it's not happening 🚫. And honestly, I don't blame Larian for being realistic – they can't control what Wizards of the Coast wants or doesn't want to do with their IP 🤔.

It's like this is some kinda game console politics 😒... but at the end of the day, fans are still left out in the cold. Switch 2 owners have to deal with a lack of new games, meanwhile everyone else gets to enjoy all the D&D goodness they can handle 🤪. Can't we just get a straight answer from the devs already?! 🙄
