Football as a content machine: 18 Champions League games was fun but overstuffed | Max Rushden

Watching 18 football matches at the same time last night, I'm still trying to process what my eyes saw. This format is an odd experiment, where so many teams playing four games each means a lot of changes in the table. If you have an ounce of logic and patience, you can predict how this will play out.

The evening started with Paris Saint-Germain winning a penalty after their own player, Bradley Barcola, handed it to Lewis Miley on his fingertips – a handball law that makes me want to take to the streets. Amidst all the drama, an exciting moment emerged: Anatoliy Trubin scoring an incredible goal for Benfica against Real Madrid.

In a world where football is about big moments and meaning, this 'content machine' experience feels overwhelming. I found myself watching everything and nothing – it's not that it wasn't entertaining but that there was too much happening to consider on any level other than superficial. You can't truly appreciate the games without getting bogged down in the intricacies.

It is fair to say the jeopardy at the end remains high, as the more teams playing, the greater the permutations become. Players are being flogged into the ground, and it feels counterintuitive that fans would be celebrating because they don't have to play more matches.

Nicky Bandini made two crucial points – from a Premier League perspective, there is less jeopardy than for smaller clubs, but this event might just become an annual bun-fight free-for-all. As for me, I'd prefer my football in a different world – one where the games are easier to follow and enjoy without all the distractions.

Watching Cambridge United's 1-0 win over Shrewsbury earlier that night felt like a different game altogether – more attritional, boring, but easier to comprehend. Perhaps this 'content machine' isn't for everyone; I'll stick to watching my football in smaller batches.

🤯♂️ Umm yeah I don't get why they're doing this 🙄 all these teams playing at once is just gonna lead to a whole lotta injuries and stress on the players, like what's the point of even having a season if you're just gonna burn 'em out? 😩

Ugh, what's wrong with the handball law 🤦‍♂️? Can't they just make it a little clearer? It's not like it's rocket science, but apparently, it is when there are 18 matches on at once 😩. And don't even get me started on the fatigue – players need to be able to give it their all without getting worn down 💪. I mean, I love watching football just as much as the next person, but this format feels like a total slog 🏃‍♂️. Give me a smaller match any day and I'll be happy 😊

🤯 what a crazy format! 18 matches at once is just mental 🤯💥 i mean, who needs that much drama and unpredictability? 😩 it's like they're trying to confuse us on purpose 🤔 i'm with you, let's stick to the smaller batches, less chaos for my eyes 👀💫

Ugh, can you imagine having to watch that many matches at the same time? 🤯 It's like they want us to lose our minds! 😂 The more teams playing, the less I care about individual results. It's just one big mess out there on the pitch. And don't even get me started on those handball laws – it's a joke! 😂 Give me a good old-fashioned 2-3 match schedule any day of the week. 🏟️

I felt the same way watching that Benfica vs Real Madrid game – so much going on, it was like trying to drink from a firehose! 💧 At least with smaller teams playing each other, you can actually appreciate what's happening without all the distractions. The only good thing about this experiment is that we get to see some crazy comebacks and upsets... but at what cost? 😴

🤯 Just watched the Premier League play with 10 teams at once 🏟️ and honestly its a madhouse 😅 how do they even keep track of everything? the drama and excitement are there but it feels like youre just flipping between channels every few minutes 📺 and i gotta agree w/ Nicky Bandini on this one 👍 no thanks, ill stick to my usual 1-2 games at a time 💯

omg u gotta watch the latest premier league match highlights 🤯

i feel u on this tho, i was literally watching 3 matches at once last night and my head is still spinning 😩

the premier league needs to find a better format ASAP, all these games playing at the same time is just too much 🤯

OMG u gotta imagine having to focus on so many games at once its mental lol 🤯🏈 1 match is hard enuf but 18?!? i get why they wanna try it out, but honestly cant we just have a normal season where teams play each other like 3-4 times instead of this crazy marathon? 🙅‍♂️ and btw, who thought the handball law was a good idea 🤦‍♂️ i mean i love paris saint germain but come on bradley barcola what were u thinking 😂

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the chaos of 18 matches at once 🤯! It's like trying to drink from a firehose – you get bits and bobs, but it's hard to appreciate anything substantial 😅. I mean, I love the drama and whatnot, but sometimes you just want to focus on the game without getting lost in all the other stuff 📺. And don't even get me started on that handball law – what's up with that?! 🤷‍♂️

omg u r saying the same thing as me last night lol i was literally overwhelmed trying to watch so many matches at once 🤯 i love anatoliy trubin's goal tho that was insane! 😲 why do they have to make these games go on for so long? my head is still spinning thinking about all the teams and scores 🤯 and cambridge united's win was so much more satisfying than some of those other matches i dont think im a fan of this 'content machine' format either lol can someone explain to me why they have to play so many games in one night? 😕

🤯😲 I feel u bro 👊 the format is wack 🚫 can't watch all those matches and still get anything out of it 😴 the handball law is soooo frustrating 🙄 love Anatoliy Trubin tho he's a goal machine 🎯 4 less games for each team means less fatigue for the players, u feel me? 💪 smaller batches all the way for this 👍

Ugh, can we please just have one normal match without all these teams playing four games each? 🤯 My eyes are still spinning from trying to watch 18 matches at once last night and I'm not even sure what happened most of the time 😅. It's like they want us fans to lose our minds with all the drama and excitement, but honestly it just felt overwhelming 💥. Can't we just have a normal match where players actually get to rest? 🙄

omg u no wot i'm sayin 🤯 this "content machine" is literally draining me lol. 18 matches at once? too much drama, not enough focus 📺 i'm just tryna watch the goals, not be overwhelmed by all the what-ifs 🤔 and yeah i get it, jeopardy's high but can't we jus' have a lil more sanity in football? ⏱️ at least when cambridge united won 🎉 i could actually appreciate the game without feelin like my brain's gonna implode 💡

I'm so confused by these 24-team tournaments 🤯💀. Like, what's the point of watching multiple games at once? It's just a mess! You can barely keep up with one game, let alone four teams playing simultaneously 😂. And don't even get me started on those handball laws – I'd love to take someone to task for that 🙄. The excitement is lost in all the chaos, you know? Give me a smaller match any day, where I can focus on the game without getting overwhelmed 📺. This "content machine" thing just isn't my cup of tea ☕️.

🤔 I'm telling you, they're not just trying to increase viewership here... they've created a recipe for disaster! 🚨 All these teams playing four games each? It's like they want us to be mindless drones watching endless hours of football without any depth or substance. And don't even get me started on the penalties and handballs... it's all just too convenient. 😏 The schedule is designed to keep us guessing, but what about the players' well-being? They're being worked to the bone! 💔 I'm glad you had a more traditional football experience with Cambridge United, it's like they knew something was up 🤝

omg u no i think its kinda cool that they're trying out this multi-team format lol 😂 its like a never ending stream of goals and drama! 🤯 but at the same time im with u on how it feels overwhelming at times. id rather watch my faves play in smaller batches too, but hey if its entertaining for u thats all that matters 💕

🤯 I completely agree with you on this new format 📺⚽️! Watching 18 matches at once is like trying to drink from a firehose 💧😅. It's all about the excitement and drama, but honestly, it feels overwhelming 😩. Where's the time for strategy and tactics when there's too much happening? 🤔

I love how you mentioned players being flogged into the ground ⚠️💨. That's the part that gets me – we're supposed to be cheering them on, not putting them through a marathon 💪😓. And don't even get me started on the penalty handball law 🤣👍... some rules just make no sense 🙄.

For me, it's all about the smaller batch of matches 📺⚽️. I can appreciate the intricacies and strategies without getting lost in the chaos 😅. Give me a more balanced schedule any day 🕰️! 👍

I feel you on the "content machine" format 🤯, it's like they're trying to give us a brain overload 😂. I love the drama and excitement of football, but when there are so many teams playing at once, it's hard to keep up with anything meaningful 🕰️. I also don't get why players have to play more matches when they already look exhausted after four games each 💪. For me, a good ol' fashioned matchday feels like the way to go 👍. Less is often more, you know?

🤔 man i feel you on this one... its like they took all the excitement and tension out of football and put it into a blender 🍹. u wanna see a goal, u gotta sift through 4 games @ once, its exhausting 😴. and yeah, its not just about the goals, its about the context, the strategy, the human element... all that gets lost in the chaos 🌪️.

i mean, think about it, when cambridge united won their game, it wasnt some earth-shattering moment, but u could feel the relief, the satisfaction of a hard-fought win 💨. thats what football should be about, not just being a spectator in a crowd of 1000s 📺.

anywayz, its all good, we can stick to our smaller matchdays and watch em at peace 😌.

omg what is happening with football lol i mean i love the excitement and all but 18 games at once?? that's like trying to drink from a firehose 🤯 i get how it can be overwhelming, and for me its more about the actual game than just watching every single thing happen. gave me chills when Anatoliy Trubin scored tho 🎉 and yeah im with you on the whole player burnout thing 🙅‍♂️. smaller batches all the way for this hype rider 🤩
