Highland Park activist sues pastor and mayoral candidate Solomon Kinloch for defamation - Detroit Metro Times

Detroit Mayoral Candidate Solomon Kinloch Sued by Highland Park Activist Over Defamation Claims

A heated battle is unfolding in Oakland County Circuit Court as Highland Park activist Robert Davis has filed a lawsuit against Detroit mayoral candidate Solomon Kinloch Jr. alleging defamation and slander.

According to the lawsuit, Kinloch maliciously lied about Davis during and after a recent debate, claiming he was a "covert operative" for Detroit City Council President Mary Sheffield's campaign. This false statement was made without presenting any evidence, sparking outrage from Davis who vehemently denies these allegations.

Davis maintains that Kinloch fabricated the claims to resuscitate his failing mayoral campaign. He also asserts that the statements were made with actual malice, implying a deliberate attempt to damage his reputation.

The lawsuit highlights a long-standing feud between Kinloch and Davis over various issues, including delinquent water bills at two of Kinloch's churches in Detroit, as well as alleged fraudulent real estate transactions involving Triumph Church. The Internal Revenue Service is currently investigating these dealings.

A recent survey conducted by the Detroit News and WDIV shows Sheffield leading the race with support from about 65% of likely voters, while Kinloch trails behind at 14%. Davis is seeking at least $250,000 in damages due to Kinloch's "false and defamatory statements," which he claims have resulted in him losing potential clients.

The dispute also centers around Triumph Church's purchase of the former AMC Star Southfield theater site in Southfield. Davis alleges that this transaction was not for a lawful church or religious purpose but rather fraudulent, violating Michigan and Internal Revenue Service laws.

As tensions rise in the lead-up to the mayoral election, both candidates are expected to engage in increasingly heated rhetoric. However, with Kinloch facing several lawsuits from critics like Davis, his campaign is under intense scrutiny.

This guy Solomon Kinloch thinks he's above the law? Suing someone for defamation over a debate? Come on... πŸ™„ He's just trying to deflect attention from his own messes. I mean, delinquent water bills at his churches and shady real estate deals? That's some serious skeletons in his closet. And now he's playing the victim? Give me a break. Davis is probably right that Kinloch was trying to sabotage him, but it's still low. Low as low can go πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. This just shows you how desperate politicians get when they're losing. Can't wait for the election to be over with... πŸ˜’

man I feel bad for robert davis πŸ€• he's already dealing with a lot of stress and now this lawsuit is just adding to it... but at the same time i'm kinda wondering why solomon kinloch would even spread those kinds of rumors about him in the first place? like, what's the real motive behind that? πŸ€‘ maybe we should be looking into his own campaign finances instead of trying to sabotage davis' rep? πŸ€”

omg u guys i cant even believe whats going on w/ solomon kinloch & robert davis !! 😱 i know theyve been beefing for a while but defamation lawsuit?? that's low. i feel bad 4 robert davis though, it sounds like solomon was just trying 2 get back at him after losing that survey πŸ˜‚ u guys remember when triumph church bought that old movie theater in southfield? i heard they got some kinda tax break or something πŸ€‘ but if its actually fraudulent lol wouldn't be surprised. kinloch's campaign is already in shambles, this is just gonna make things worse πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

Umm... this guy Solomon Kinloch is in some serious trouble πŸ€•! He's being sued by a Highland Park activist for saying some pretty bad things about him during a debate... and now he's gotta pay up if he loses πŸ€‘. It seems like they've got some history together, but who doesn't, right? πŸ˜’ I don't know what to believe - is Kinloch really that bad or did this guy just get mad at him for some reason? πŸ€” Either way, this election is getting pretty heated πŸ”₯... and I'm not sure which candidate I'd trust more after hearing all the drama πŸ’β€β™€οΈ.

Ugh, this whole thing is just messy 🀯. Like, can't they just focus on what's gonna make Detroit better? πŸ˜’ This lawsuit over defamatory claims is just gonna lead to more drama and stress for the candidates... and honestly, for everyone involved πŸ™„. It's also kinda sad that Davis is losing clients due to these false allegations, when he's actually got some legit issues with Kinloch's churches and real estate dealings πŸ€”. The whole thing feels like a distraction from what should be about making Detroit better for all its residents πŸŒ†.

awww man, this whole thing is really sad πŸ€•... it sounds like Robert Davis is going through a really tough time and feeling super hurt by Solomon Kinloch's words πŸ’”. I can imagine how frustrating it must be to have your name dragged through the mud without any proof or respect πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ. Meanwhile, Kinloch's campaign is getting more and more scrutiny... does he even care about the harm his words are causing? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ It's just so draining watching all this drama go down 😩.

omg how long till election day?! this drama with kinloch and davis is getting crazy i think kinloch should focus on his own campaign instead of attacking other people πŸ˜’ what's up with all these lawsuits against him though? it looks like he's got some major issues to deal with... 250k in damages sounds like a lot of $$$ for one statement tho πŸ‘€ maybe the real question is how many more scandals can kinloch handle before he gets dethroned πŸ€”

I'm a bit concerned about these defamation claims escalating the situation between Solomon Kinloch and Robert Davis πŸ€”. Both of them seem passionate about their views, but let's not forget that as candidates for office, they should be setting an example for respectful dialogue πŸ’¬. It feels like we're witnessing a perfect storm of frustration, fear, and fatigue on both sides 😩. What really bothers me is that these personal attacks might distract from the real issues facing Detroit's residents – the water bills, economic development, education... πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ Can't we focus on finding solutions instead of tearing each other down? πŸ™ Maybe a fact-checking platform or a mediated debate would help clear the air and bring some sanity back to this campaign? πŸ“Š

πŸ€” I don't think it's fair to just label someone as a "covert operative" without backing it up, you know? It sounds like Davis is feeling pretty hurt and frustrated that Kinloch would make such serious claims about him without any evidence. And to be real, the whole situation with Triumph Church and those delinquent water bills... it's just a lot of drama going on in this election 🀯. I think what people need right now is for both candidates to focus on the issues that really matter to Detroit's residents, rather than engaging in personal attacks πŸ’¬. Can't we all just try to have a respectful conversation about how to move our city forward? 🀝

omg i cant believe this is happening!! solomon kinloch's got some 'splainin' to do! πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ he's already in trouble with the IRS over those churches and now this defamation lawsuit? it's like, can't a guy just have one scandal without getting sued? πŸ˜‚

i mean i think robert davis is being pretty reasonable tho. like, kinloch made some serious accusations about him without backing 'em up and that's just not cool. but at the same time, i don't wanna believe davis is just making all this stuff up either... πŸ€”

anywayz, the mayoral election is gonna be WILD. both sheffield and kinloch are gonna be like "i'm the best candidate" and the voters are just gonna be like "uhhh yeah no". πŸ˜‚ can't wait to see what happens next! πŸ‘€

I don’t usually comment on these kinda things but... it's wild how deep this feud has gotten between Kinloch and Davis. I mean, I get that people can be salty about losing a debate or something but defamation lawsuit? That's just crazy talk 🀯. And now with all the other drama around Triumph Church and the AMC Star thing... it just seems like these two are trying to outdo each other in the "who can make the most outrageous claims" department πŸ€‘. But honestly, who cares about all this when we've got a mayoral election coming up? Can't they just focus on what's best for Detroit instead of trying to tear each other down?

πŸ€” I'm so sick of these politicians making baseless claims about each other on the platform πŸ“Ί. It's just a distraction from their own failings and flaws. And now Solomon Kinloch Jr. is getting called out for supposedly lying about Robert Davis, which is just more mud being thrown at someone who already seems to be in a hole of controversy himself πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ. Can't they just keep it civil? The real issue here is the delinquent water bills and fraudulent real estate deals that are actually going on... maybe instead of suing each other, these candidates should focus on fixing the problems with their own campaign records πŸ’ΌπŸš½.

😬 This whole thing is just so messy 🀯... I don't think it's fair that Solomon Kinloch is being sued over something as serious as defamation, especially when the other guy Robert Davis has a lot to lose if he can prove Kinloch's claims are true πŸ’Έ. It sounds like a pretty thin line between personal attacks and actual wrongdoing πŸ€”... And what's with all these lawsuits coming out of nowhere? Can't they just focus on what really matters – who's gonna lead Detroit better? πŸ›οΈπŸ—³οΈ

πŸ€” this whole thing just smells like politics as usual. Can't even have a debate without someone getting sued over something that sounds like total BS. I mean, come on Robert Davis's got some serious ammo if he thinks Solomon Kinloch made up those claims about him, but you've gotta wonder what really went down at Triumph Church... did they get away with scamming the IRS? πŸ€‘

This guy Kinloch has got some serious issues to sort out! Defamation lawsuit after defamation lawsuit? I mean, come on, if he can't even get along with one activist, how's he gonna represent the city of Detroit? And what's up with these delinquent water bills at his churches?! Like, is this just a coincidence or did he really expect people to turn a blind eye? πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ

And don't even get me started on Triumph Church. I mean, I'm no expert, but it sounds like Kinloch's got some 'splainin' to do! 😏 Can you imagine if this was happening in your neighborhood and someone made these kinds of allegations? You'd be livid! The IRS is already involved, so that's gotta be a red flag right there.

Davis might've lost potential clients, but I think he's got Kinloch where it counts – in the court of public opinion. And if this keeps up, people are gonna start seeing Kinloch for who he really is: a guy with some serious skeletons in his closet! πŸ’₯

🀯 I'm low-key shocked that this lawsuit is even happening. Like, can't you just disagree on policy without resorting to personal attacks? πŸ™„ It's sad to see how negative and toxic politics can get in America. I mean, Kinloch makes some valid points, but does he have to go after Davis like that? πŸ˜’ It's all just getting pretty ugly, especially with the election looming over everyone's head. Can't we just focus on the issues and have civil discourse instead of throwing mud at each other? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ The whole situation is making me think twice about how I'm going to vote...
