Hytale will only cost $20 because it isn't good yet, its developer says

Hytale's Developer Admits Game Isn't Good Enough for Full Price

In a shocking move, Hypixel Studios has announced that its upcoming sandbox game Hytale will be launched in early access at an affordable price of $20. The decision was made by co-founder Simon Collins-Laflamme, who stated that the game is "unfinished" and runs on outdated software.

Collins-Laflamme acknowledged that charging a higher price for the game wouldn't have been justified given its current state. "I'm pricing Hytale as aggressively low as possible," he said in a Twitter post. "The game is unfinished and runs on a build from over four years ago. Charging more didn't feel right. I don't think the game is good yet."

By pricing the game at $20, Hypixel Studios is essentially admitting that it's not ready for release just yet. The developer has also announced plans to offer additional in-game cosmetics through higher-priced editions of the game, which could generate revenue while the game continues to be developed.

The decision comes after a tumultuous history for Hytale, which was originally cancelled by Riot Games in June 2025 due to a major reboot of the game engine. However, Hypixel Studios has since reacquired the rights to the game and is now working on relaunching it in early access with a growing team of developers.

While some may see this decision as a sign of poor planning or a lack of confidence in the game's quality, others may view it as a bold move that could help Hypixel Studios build a loyal community of players who are willing to support the game through its development process.

I'm actually kinda loving this move by Hytale devs! 🤩 I mean, think about it - they're being super transparent about the game's state and giving players a chance to get in on the ground floor at an affordable price. It's like they're saying "Hey, we know this isn't perfect yet, but we want your feedback!" And that's some great community building right there! Plus, who doesn't love getting their hands on a new game for just $20? 😄 It's all about setting expectations and delivering value, you know? Maybe the devs didn't have to go as low with the price, but it's clear they're willing to put the player first.

🤔 idk why they didn't just wait a bit longer to get it right tho, i mean $20 is def a good price for an unfinished game lol, but like what if ppl just buy it and then leave negative feedback or dont play as much? would that just make the dev feel bad about releasing it early access? anyway, 20 bucks is a good call, at least its not gonna be a 60 dollar trash can game

OMG you won't believe what just happened with Hytale 🤯. I mean, I've been waiting for this game forever since I first heard about it back in 2022 and was super hyped... but now it's like they're saying the whole thing is a mess 😂. $20? That's crazy cheap! Simon Collins-Laflamme basically admitted that it's not good enough to be sold at full price... poor guy must be feeling so embarrassed 😳. I guess it's better than releasing something broken, but still... can't help but feel like they're just trying to get some money out of us before the game is even finished 🤑.

I gotta say, I'm kinda surprised they're pricing it low like this 🤔. I mean, if you charge full price for something that's still got bugs and unfinished features, people might just lose interest and move on. But hey, at least they're being honest about it 💯. It's like they're saying "hey, we know our game isn't perfect yet, but we want to get your feedback and build a community around it". That's actually kinda cool 🤓. And who knows, maybe the low price will attract more players than if they had charged full price initially? It's all about building hype and getting people on board 🚀. Plus, I love that they're offering more in-game cosmetics for the higher-priced editions - it's like a win-win for everyone involved 🤑.

I think this is just another example of gamers being fed a raw piece of meat and calling it a fine dining experience lol. $20 for an unfinished game? That's not bold, that's just lazy. If they're so confident their game isn't ready yet, why charge anything at all? Just make the base price $0 and collect emails from excited players who can't wait to try it out. Problem solved!

The transparent admission by Simon Collins-Laflamme that Hytale isn't ready for prime time at full price is quite refreshing 🙌. I think it's great that the dev team is prioritizing player satisfaction over revenue goals, even if it means taking a hit on sales. It shows they're committed to delivering a quality gaming experience and aren't just trying to make a quick buck.

In fact, offering affordable early access could be a clever marketing strategy 🤑. By pricing the game at $20, Hypixel Studios is making a bold statement that their community comes first. And who knows, by giving players a chance to shape the game's development through feedback and bug reports, they might just build a loyal following of superfans 💖.

OMG u guys I just heard about Hytale and im literally shocked 😱 Simon Collins-Laflamme is being soooo upfront with his game's issues he basically said it's not even close to bein good enuf for that high price 🤑 but like what can u do, right? 20 bucks sounds like a steal tho, i mean who doesnt love a bargain 💸?! I personally think its kinda cool that he's prioritizin the community and wanna make sure ppl have fun with the game before its "finished" 🤔 it feels like hes tryna build a loyal fangirls squad lol 😜

omg can't believe what I just read 🤯 Hytale is literally like 4 years out of date and they're charging us for it? 🤑 $20 is a steal but at the same time i feel bad for them, i mean who doesn't love hytale? 😂 maybe this is actually a good thing? people will be willing to pay more when its done right, fingers crossed that hypixel studios delivers 💻

I'm all for it 🤔, but at the same time, I think $20 is kinda cheap? Like, what's the deal with that? They're basically saying their game isn't good enough to warrant a full price tag of like $50 or something. That's fair, I guess, if you ask me... wait, no, I mean it's not fair at all! The fact that they can just slap a price tag on it and be done with it is kinda shady 🤑.

But then again, maybe this is the right move? Maybe by pricing it low, they're gonna get a bunch of people to play it and give them feedback, which could actually make the game better in the end? Or maybe it's just a money grab? 🤷‍♂️ I don't know, man... my mind's made up: if you want to call this a bold move, then it is. But if you ask me, it's still kinda confusing 😕.
