I Do review – immersive hotel drama as wonderful as a real wedding day

Malmaison Hotels Bring 'I Do' to Life in Heart-Wrenching Drama

In a masterful reimagining of Dante or Die's original site-specific show, this production perfectly encapsulates the raw emotions that unfold during the final moments before Georgie and Tunde tie the knot. Daphna Attias and Terry O'Donovan's work weaves an intricate narrative as six strangers are shuttled between different hotel rooms, each representing a pivotal moment in the couple's journey to the altar.

At first glance, it seems like an exercise in voyeuristic entertainment – wedding day tropes abound, from spirited bridesmaids to surreptitious trysts. However, as the audience progresses through the six rooms, a more poignant and deeply human story emerges. Each room brings its own unique scenario, expertly crafted to capture the anguish and insecurity that accompany love.

From an awkward encounter between Georgie's mother, Helen, and her unfaithful ex-husband David, to a same-sex moment of passion involving the best man Joe, each performance is imbued with a raw emotional intensity. Even the seemingly inconsequential character of a cleaner becomes integral to the narrative, bringing a touch of surreal charm.

The set design by Jenny Hayton is noteworthy, cleverly juxtaposing the sterile corporate world of the hotel's wedding packages with the personal detritus of its guests. The pacing is deliberate and measured, allowing emotions to evolve through subtle gestures and expressions between characters.

As the story unfolds, one cannot help but become deeply invested in almost every character by the end. 'I Do' is a masterclass in storytelling – heart-wrenching, ridiculous, and wonderful – a testament to the power of human connection on our most intimate days.

With its beautiful performances, impeccable direction, and innovative set design, this production of 'I Do' at Malmaison Hotels is an unforgettable experience that lingers long after the curtain falls.

OMG, I'm literally dying over here! 🤯 The way they've woven this intricate narrative around two couples getting hitched is SO genius 💡 I mean, who wouldn't want to watch a show where six strangers are basically living each other's lives in hotel rooms? 😂 It's like a masterclass in storytelling - so emotional, yet laugh-out-loud funny at the same time. 🤣 The set design is insane too! The way they've juxtaposed this sterile corporate world with personal stuff is pure magic ✨ I'm seriously considering getting married just to experience that drama and emotion firsthand 😂. Has anyone else seen this show? What did you think? 🤔

Idk about all the hype around this show 🤔... Six strangers in hotel rooms? Sounds like a weird concept to me 😂. But I guess if it's well done, it could be kinda interesting. I mean, who doesn't love a good love story? 💕 But what really gets me is that they're making it sound like some deep, profound experience when I'm pretty sure I've seen similar "drama" at my cousin's wedding 🤦‍♀️. Anyone have any info on this show and how it's being received by audiences? 📚

Wow 😍 this show sounds so intense! I love how it explores all the emotions that come with the wedding day, you know? from happy to sad, and everything in between. 🤩 And the way they used different hotel rooms as settings is pure genius! 💡

I don’t usually comment but... I just watched this drama and it was so emotional 😭! I love how they weaved different hotel rooms to represent different moments in the couple's journey, it was like a mini-mystery unfolding on stage 🤔. The performances were amazing, especially the scenes with Georgie's mom and best man Joe - it felt so real 😳. And can we talk about the set design? It was so sleek and corporate on the outside but then you'd find these personal touches that just made it feel so human ❤️. I don’t think I've laughed or cried so much in one show before 🤣👀. The pacing was perfect too, it wasn't too slow or too fast - it just flowed beautifully like a good story should 💕.

omg, i'm still reeling from watching "i do" 🤯🎭 the way they wove these 6 strangers into a narrative that's both super entertaining and heart-wrenchingly real is just genius 💖 daphna attias and terry o'donovan must've had some serious chemistry or what?! 😍 it's crazy how you can be laughing one sec and crying the next - i was literally on the edge of my seat 🎉 and the set design? wow, it's like they took all these hotel rooms and just... brought them to life 💥 anyway, i'm still thinking about the ending and those final moments before georgie & tunde tie the knot 😭 it's gonna be a while before i forget this production 🙏

Omg I know exactly what they mean by "wedding day tropes" 🤣 but seriously it's like how some hotels have these super over-the-top wedding packages and you're just waiting for someone to spill the tea 💁‍♀️! And that set design tho?! It's like they took a normal hotel room and made it into this emotional minefield 😩. I'm totally invested in every character by the end of it too, even the cleaner 🧹👏. The whole thing just feels so real and relatable... I mean who hasn't had an awkward moment with their significant other or family member during a wedding 🤷‍♀️?! And that performance by Terry O'Donovan is giving me ALL the feels 😭. Definitely checking this out ASAP! 👍

this show is literally so emotional 😭 i was on the edge of my seat the whole time, like what's gonna happen next? each room is so different and you get to see all these intimate moments between the characters it's crazy how much depth there is in this story 🤯 i love how it's not just about the wedding day, but about the people leading up to it too. the acting is top notch btw 👏

omg I totally felt my emotions getting all messed up during this show 🤯🎭 it's like the actors were having a real moment and we're just witnessing it 😩 but what really stood out to me was how each room represented something different about Georgie & Tunde's relationship - from their first date to the day before they get married... it was like I knew them 🤣

Man, I'm still reeling from the emotional rollercoaster that just ended 🤯. The way they wove these real-life storylines together was so clever, it's like they were commenting on our society's obsession with weddings and relationships 🎉. And can we talk about the casting? The diversity of characters was amazing - I loved seeing same-sex moments represented in a way that wasn't tokenistic 🌈. It made me think about how much more representation we need in media, especially when it comes to complex, human stories 📺. Anyway, I'm totally sold on this production and can't wait to see what else Malmaison Hotels has up their sleeve 💼.
