‘I’m Witnessing a Lot of Emptiness’: How ICE Uprooted Normal Life in Minneapolis

The article discusses the recent ICE raids in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and their impact on the city's Somali community. The raids have targeted civilians, including children as young as 16, who were brought to the US by refugee programs.

The article highlights the fear and anxiety that has gripped the community, with many people wondering why they are being targeted when they were brought to the US by the same government. Some have asked if it's possible that the government is trying to punish them for fleeing war-torn countries or persecution.

The Center for African Immigrants and Refugees Organization (CAIRO) has created a call center to provide guidance and support to those affected by the raids. The organization is also offering letters of accommodation to employers who are concerned about hiring individuals with immigration status.

The article also notes that DHS did not respond to a request for comment, and that the 16-year-old mentioned by Abdikadir Bashir was ultimately not transported to Texas.

🤔 This recent ICE raid in Minneapolis is super concerning 🚨. I mean, who gets targeted when they're just trying to rebuild their lives here? Refugees, people! They fled war and persecution for a safer life, only to be met with fear and uncertainty now 💔. It's like, can't the government see that they're not a threat? They were brought here by the same system that was supposed to protect them 🤷‍♀️.

I feel so bad for the Somali community right now 😕. The anxiety and fear are real, and it's hard to know what's going to happen next 🤯. But at least there's some good news – CAIRO is stepping up with support and guidance 🙏. And hey, a little accommodation from employers doesn't hurt either 🤑.

It's just frustrating that DHS isn't talking about this 👊. You'd think they'd want to explain what's going on, but instead... crickets 🐦. Anyway, I hope the community can find some peace soon and that these raids stop being so frequent 😅.

Man, this ICE raid in Minneapolis is super messed up 🤦‍♂️. I mean, kids as young as 16 being targeted? That's just harsh, you know? They didn't exactly ask for this life, they were brought here by the government as refugees. It's like, what are we even doing to these people? 😩

And can someone please explain why DHS is not commenting on this? It's like they're hiding something. I get that they need to enforce laws and all, but come on, some empathy would be nice 🤝.

The community is really scared right now, and it's hard to blame them. The CAIRO organization is doing a good job of providing support, but more needs to be done, you know? Like, why can't we just have a fair system where people don't get targeted for being in the wrong place at the wrong time? 🤷‍♂️

It's not like these kids did anything wrong. They were just trying to escape war and find a new home. It's our responsibility to make sure they're safe, not to chase them down with raids. 🚫

🤔 ICE raids in Minneapolis = total mess 🤕 So, they're just gonna pick on Somali kids who are basically American-born? What's next? Targeting other refugee groups too? 🚫 The gov's response is like, crickets... DHS won't even comment? That's super sketchy. Cairo's call center might be a good start, but I bet many folks need more than just guidance and support. They need concrete answers and protection from people who don't even understand their struggles. 16-year-olds being targeted? That's just cruel 🤕

🤔 This whole thing is super messed up. I mean, what's going on here? These people came to this country seeking safety and refuge, and now they're being targeted like this? It's crazy that kids as young as 16 are getting caught up in all this. I don't think it's fair that they're being punished for something their parents did or didn't do. 🤷‍♀️

I feel bad for the Somali community in Minneapolis, they must be going through so much stress and anxiety right now. It's like, what are they supposed to do? They just showed up here with nothing and expected a second chance? 🤦‍♂️ I guess that's not how it works.

I'm glad CAIRO is stepping up and trying to help people out though. That's some good stuff. And yeah, DHS being all quiet about this is weird too. You'd think they'd at least have something to say about it. 🤐 Anyway, I hope these raids stop soon and things get back to normal for everyone involved.

🤕 I'm so worried about these innocent people being targeted in Minneapolis. It's like, they came here seeking safety and protection, but now they're being treated like criminals? 🤷‍♀️ These raids are having a huge impact on the Somali community, and it's heartbreaking to see families torn apart because of fear and uncertainty.

I think it's super understandable that people are wondering why they're being targeted. Were they really doing something wrong by fleeing war and persecution in their home countries? 🤔 It just doesn't add up. And what about all the children involved, like that 16-year-old girl who was going to be deported? 🚫 That's just not right.

It's great that CAIRO is stepping up with support services for those affected, but I wish more people would speak out against these raids and demand some answers from DHS. 😐

omg this is so messed up 🤯 i dont get why these ppl are being targeted like they did nothing wrong... they came here seeking safety and refuge from war or persecution... how can the gov try to punish them now? 💔 its just not right... these raids are causing a lot of fear and anxiety in the community, especially with kids involved 🤕 16 years old is way too young to be dealing with this kind of stress... i wish the gov would come forward and explain what's going on... or at least offer some support to these ppl 🤗

Ugh I'm so mad about this 🤯, like what's going on with ICE? They're targeting innocent people who are just trying to build a new life here. I mean, some of these kids have been living in the US since they were little ones, they don't even know anything else 🤷‍♀️. And now they're being rounded up like they're some kind of criminal? It's just not right.

I feel for the Somali community in Minneapolis, they've already had to deal with so much trauma and hardship. The last thing they need is this kind of stress and anxiety. I wish the government would just communicate better and be more transparent about what's going on 🤔. And can we talk about how DHS just ignores the whole thing? Like, if someone asks a question, you'd think there'd be some kind of response 🙄.
