Joel Sherman’s 3 Things I Think: Complicated questions surround a Trent Grisham reunion with Yankees

The Yankees' decision to extend an invitation to free agent outfielder Trent Grisham raises more questions than answers about his potential reunion with the team.

One pressing issue is whether New York should take a chance on Grisham, who had a career season in 2024 despite not approaching $22 million annually. This raises a crucial question: what does the future hold for this young talent?

On one hand, considering Grisham's impressive performance in his breakout year could be seen as a smart move by the Yankees. He has shown flashes of brilliance in his short career, which might pay off with more experience and time under the lights.

However, on the other hand, making a qualifying offer to Grisham seems somewhat uncertain, given that he may not meet the salary expectations even during a multi-year contract. This creates uncertainty about whether the investment will yield long-term results or become a significant burden for the team's financial resources.

The bigger question remains: what does this mean for Grisham's future with the Yankees? Will it be a chance to solidify his position as a core player, or might it mark the beginning of an arduous road towards realizing his full potential?

I think its crazy how some teams just give up on their players they know well. Trent Grisham was already great last year and yet he's not being considered for max contract. maybe grisham wants to stay in new york but also needs more time or money. idk imo

.. Trent Grisham, right? I mean, he had that crazy 2024 season and now the Yanks are swooping in. But let's be real, have you seen those team stats lately? It feels like they're trying to outspend everyone just to stay competitive . I get it, Grisham's got potential, but does NY really need him at this point?

I think what bothers me is that we don't even know if he can sustain that level of performance. Can you imagine the pressure on a young guy like that? The scrutiny from fans and media is already intense, now add in the expectation to perform for millions... 🤑 It's almost too much to handle.

Still, I guess it's worth a shot, right? If Grisham can deliver, he'll be worth every penny. But what if it doesn't work out? Does that mean they're stuck with him just because of the investment? 🤔

idk why grisham would wanna go back to ny after all that drama he went thru last season 🤔. maybe he's lookin for somethin more stable than the yankees' system, or maybe he just wants outta the northeast 😂. either way, i'm intrigued by this decision... maybe grisham's got a point about not needin to break the bank, but at the same time, ny needs someone with his skillset ⚾️. what do u think?

Trent Grisham is like a puzzle piece that can either fit perfectly into the Yankees' roster or not at all 🤔💡. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they make a smart move and give him another chance to shine, but at the same time, I get why people are skeptical about the salary expectations #TrentGrisham #YankeesRoster #UncertaintyAhead 💸🏟️.

It's like, on one hand, he did have an amazing season in 2024 and showed so much promise 🌟, but on the other hand, we don't know how he'll hold up under pressure or if his performance will plateau #GrishamFuture #YankeesDecision #LongTermInvestment 💭.

I'm excited to see what happens next! Maybe this is just what Grisham needs to take it to the next level and prove himself as a true superstar 🤩 #TrentGrishamFan #NewChapterForTG

You know, I think this is like that time in life when you're not sure if you should take a leap of faith or play it safe. The Yankees are basically asking themselves, "Is Trent Grisham worth the risk?" And honestly, it's kinda like what we do every day - weigh our options and try to make sense of the uncertainty.

It's easy to look at someone's past success and think they're a sure thing, but life doesn't work that way. Everyone has ups and downs, and even the best players have bad years. The question is, how will Grisham bounce back? 🤔 Does he have what it takes to sustain his level of performance or was 2024 just an anomaly?

For me, this is about trusting in someone's potential rather than their past performance. If the Yankees believe in Grisham and are willing to take a chance on him, that says something about their character as a team. 💪

I don’t usually comment but... I think the Yanks are taking a bit of a risk on Grisham 🤔. He had a sick 2024 season, no doubt about that 😎, but $22 million annually is still a pretty big ask for someone who didn't exactly blow anyone away in previous years.

I mean, don’t get me wrong, the kid has talent and he's only getting younger, so you gotta wonder what could be if he stays healthy and gets more reps under his belt 🏋️‍♂️. But at the same time, it's easy to imagine a scenario where Grisham just doesn't meet expectations and becomes a bigger headache than he's worth 💸.

What I think is cool, though, is that this decision shows the Yanks are willing to take some calculated risks on younger players 🤝. If they can figure out how to make it work with Grisham without breaking the bank, that could be a major win for the team and their fans 👏.

I don't get why they're not committing to him fully lol 😂 22 million is a decent offer but if he's that good then why not just sign him for like 5-6 years now? 🤑 It seems like they're trying to play it safe, which is cool I guess, but it also raises the question of how much talent will leave in free agency if teams are gonna string players along like this 😐

I'm thinking if the Yanks are really ready for Grisham to carry the torch on their outfield. They've got some talented young guns already, and I don't want to see them feeling like they need to live up to Grisham's expectations alone 🤔💪

omg I'm thinking about Grisham like he's my uncle and we're gonna have to talk him into taking that money lol what's up with free agency though? it's like, either you're in or out, can't be chillin' on the fence. and $22 million a year is just crazy rich, I'd be lost if I had to live off that. but at the same time, Trent Grisham is like a young supermodel, all that talent and charisma, he's gonna shine bright soon

Wow 🤩, I'm loving how exciting this news is! Trent Grisham has got some serious game and I think the Yankees are taking a huge risk by bringing him back. It's like they're betting on him becoming a true superstar, which would be amazing to see. The uncertainty around his salary and whether he can live up to expectations makes me wonder if it's all worth it... but at the same time, it's kinda refreshing that they're willing to take a chance on someone so young! 🤔 Interesting 👀
