John Mayer Pays Heartfelt Tribute to Late Bob Weir: 'I'll Meet You in the Music'
In a poignant message posted on social media late Sunday, guitar legend John Mayer paid tribute to his Grateful Dead bandmate and friend, Bob Weir, who passed away at 78 due to underlying lung issues after a battle with cancer.
Mayer's heartfelt post read: "Okay Bob. I'll do it your way... Fkn' A… Thanks for letting me ride alongside you. It sure was a pleasure. If you say it's not the end, then I'll believe you. I'll meet you in the music. Come find me anytime."
The unlikely pair collaborated on and offstage for over a decade, with Mayer joining Dead and Co., the latest incarnation of the Grateful Dead, after being invited to join John Mayer on "The Late Late Show" where he performed alongside Weir.
As a key member of the band, Mayer toured extensively with Weir, Bill Kreutzmann, and Mickey Hart, bringing their unique sound to audiences worldwide. The group's final public performance with Weir took place last August in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park to celebrate the Grateful Dead's 60th anniversary.
Their farewell tour wrapped up in July 2023, but they continued to perform at select residencies until recently. Mayer's tribute serves as a testament to his deep respect and affection for his late friend and fellow musician, Weir.
