Law enforcement made a dramatic entry into a San Leon home on Friday, razing the residence to apprehend a barricaded suspect. The standoff began at around 1:15 p.m. when authorities arrived at the 100 block of 18th Street with Gary Cooper in custody on two felony warrants for aggravated assault and robbery.
According to Galveston County Sheriff Jimmy Fullen, Cooper refused to cooperate with law enforcement and was believed to be armed. To try and resolve the situation peacefully, deputies deployed gas into Cooper's home. However, negotiations ultimately failed, prompting the sheriff to seek assistance from a specialized SWAT team from Harris County.
At 6 p.m., the "Rook," a powerful SWAT super machine capable of breaching even reinforced structures, arrived on the scene. The vehicle was instrumental in ending the tense standoff by ripping through Cooper's home, allowing deputies to apprehend him peacefully at around 8 p.m.
The Galveston County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that Gary Cooper is now in custody, bringing an end to the hours-long barricade situation.
