Mammoth series two review – it is a subversive thrill to laugh at these offensive jokes

"Mammoth" Returns for Another Dose of Retro Humor

The return of Mike Bubbins' sitcom "Mammoth" is a welcome respite from the often-trying landscape of modern comedy, where jokes about contemporary society seem scarce. The show's protagonist, Tony Mammoth, is a PE teacher who was buried by an avalanche in 1979 and, nearly half a century later, finds himself back in the world, with his outdated values intact.

At its core, "Mammoth" is a subversive comedy that revels in nostalgia for the good old days. Bubbins' impeccable deadpan delivery fuels the show's humor, as Mammoth navigates modern Britain with bewildered confidence. While some of the supporting characters struggle to match Bubbins' comedic prowess, their roles are often overshadowed by the main event.

The series excels at skewering masculine ideals, particularly when Mammoth struggles to comprehend contemporary tastes and values. This send-up of masculinity is expertly balanced, as the show's creator makes pointed observations about the absurdity of modern life through Mammoth's reactions.

However, with another three-episode outing under its belt, "Mammoth" has started to feel a tad formulaic. The jokes, while still amusing, may not be as freshly minted as they once were. As much as we're drawn into Mammoth's world of nostalgia-fueled hijinks, the show may benefit from some evolution – perhaps even the emergence of a more empathetic and considerate Mammoth.

Ultimately, "Mammoth" is a testament to Bubbins' comedic genius, with his creation offering a welcome respite from the often-dreary landscape of modern comedy. While it's unclear whether this show will continue to grow and adapt, its current iteration remains a subversive and entertaining ride that will leave you smiling through the absurdity.

I'm loving how "Mammoth" is bringing back retro humor 🤣, but I gotta say, it might be time for some character growth 😊. Tony's outdated values are hilarious at first, but if he doesn't evolve, the show will start to feel like a bunch of old jokes in a jar 🎉. Maybe they can explore how Mammoth's experiences change him over time? 🤔 Would love to see more nuance and depth from the show! 😊

🤣 Mammoth just got back on air and I'm so here for it! The guy's ridiculous deadpan humor is exactly what we need more of in comedy these days 🙌 Bubbins' creation is like a breath of fresh air, skewering those outdated masculine ideals with precision 💪. However, after three episodes, I do think the formulaic jokes might start to get old 😒 Maybe Mammoth could evolve a bit and show some growth? That'd be pretty cool 👍 Either way, for now, it's a hilarious ride that'll leave you in stitches 🎉

I'm so down for more "Mammoth"! The nostalgia factor is real, but I love how Bubbins uses it to poke fun at outdated masculinity – it's like a comedic Rorschach test. 🤣 I do agree that it might get formulaic, though. Maybe they could explore some more complex themes next season? Give Mammoth a chance to grow a little bit (just kidding). Seriously though, his character is hilarious when he's out of touch with modern life – it's like he's the ultimate lovable grump 🤦‍♂️. I'm excited to see what's next for this retro gem! 👍

idk about this mammoth show 🤷‍♂️, on one hand its like comedy gold, but on the other it feels kinda same old same old 😴 after 3 episodes i'm still waiting for tony to evolve and not just be a retro parody of modern society lol, dont get me wrong its hilarious but like come on dude, grow up 🤦‍♂️

🤔 I'm kinda surprised how much I enjoy "Mammoth" so far... I mean, it's just so weirdly funny 😂. But yeah, after three episodes, it does feel a bit like same old same old 📺. The jokes are still pretty sharp, but some of the characters feel a bit one-dimensional 👥.

I think what really sets "Mammoth" apart is its ability to poke fun at outdated masculinity without feeling too preachy or heavy-handed 💪. Mike Bubbins' deadpan delivery is pure gold 😂, and I love how he's not afraid to send up his own character's absurdity 🤯.

One thing that would make me even more invested in the show is if Tony Mammoth started to evolve a bit... become less of a caricature of an old-fashioned bloke 😊. Give him some relatable flaws or vulnerabilities, and I think we'd have an even better time watching him navigate modern life 🤝.

What do you guys think? Are you as hooked on "Mammoth" as I am?

I'm so down for another dose of "Mammoth"! I love how Mike Bubbins' humor pokes fun at outdated values in a way that's both nostalgic and relevant to today's society 😂. It's crazy to think about how well Tony Mammoth holds up, despite being from the 70s – it's like he's been frozen in time 🕰️. I do agree that the show might feel a bit formulaic now, but I'm rooting for Bubbins to keep pushing boundaries and making us laugh while also making us think 🤔. The more Mammoth evolves (and hopefully becomes more empathetic 😊), the better! Can't wait to see what's next for this lovable, bumbling legend 👏

I'm not sure if I'd want to hang out with Tony Mammoth for too long 🤣, his outdated views on masculinity are kinda cringeworthy at times. But hey, I get what the show is trying to do – poke fun at our societal norms and have a laugh about it 😂. The thing that bothers me is how some of the supporting characters are kinda one-dimensional, they need more depth if we wanna take this show seriously 🤔. Still, Mike Bubbins' comedic genius shines through, makes you wanna watch another episode (or three) 👍

🤣 I mean, who wouldn't want more of this retro humor? The way Mike Bubbins' character Tony Mammoth navigates modern Britain is just 😂 priceless! And I love how he's still got those old-school values intact - it's like, honestly, I can relate to that 😆. But yeah, maybe a bit more growth from the show would be nice... 🤔

im lovin' how "Mammoth" pokes fun at outdated values lol 😂 i mean, who hasn't felt like they're stuck in the past sometimes? but seriously, it's cool how the show is able to make light of those feelings without being too preachy. and omg mike bubbins as a deadpan comedian 🤣 is just genius.

i wonder if they'll explore more of mammoth's backstory tho? like, what was he doing before he got buried? 🤔 that could lead to some really interesting character development... and maybe even make him less one-dimensional?

overall i'm hyped for more "Mammoth" content! 👏

🤔 I mean, think about it... how refreshing it is to see someone like Tony Mammoth, stuck in his ways, trying to navigate our modern world 🌐. It's almost like we're all being forced to relive the same '70s nostalgia through him 😂. But what's really interesting is that he's not just a relic of the past; he's a symbol of our own outdated values and the struggle to adapt to change ⏰. And in a way, his naivety is what makes him so lovable and entertaining 🤣. The show might be feeling a bit formulaic now, but that's also what makes it so... familiar? Like we're all just stuck in our own comfort zones, waiting for someone to shake things up 😊.

omg i'm so stoked about mammoth returning!! 🤣🎉 mike bubbins is like my comedic god lol he's got this deadpan delivery that just kills me every time tony mammoth's reactions to modern society are everything and more, i love how the show skewers masculine ideals too it's like, totally relatable to guys like me who feel like they've been left behind in the dad jokes department 🤦‍♂️ anywayz, while i think 3 eps is a bit formulaic, i'm def down for more mammoth goodness in the future can't wait for new eps to come out 😁

🤣 I was really laughing out loud at some of Tony Mammoth's reactions to modern Britain 😂, but like the article said, it started to feel a bit formulaic after three episodes 📺. The jokes were still funny, don't get me wrong, but I think it would be great if the show could explore more nuances and complexities in its portrayal of masculinity 👊. It's always good to see comedies tackling these topics with empathy and understanding 💖.

I was thinking about this same show back in 2023 when it first dropped 🤔... and I'm still not sure if I love it or hate it 😂. At first, Tony Mammoth's return felt like a novelty, but now that it's been on for three episodes, I'm starting to see some of the same jokes being repeated 🙄. Don't get me wrong, Mike Bubbins is hilarious as always, and his deadpan delivery still kills me 😂... but I do wish they'd mix it up a bit more. Maybe throw in some new characters or situations to shake things up? Still, it's hard to resist the charm of Mammoth's retro humor 😊. What do you guys think? Am I just being too harsh? 😐
