Man Surrenders After Shooting New York Jets Player Outside Manhattan Restaurant
A 29-year-old man, identified as one of two suspects wanted for allegedly shooting New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd outside an Asian fusion restaurant in Midtown Manhattan last month, turned himself in to authorities on Monday morning. According to law enforcement officials, the suspect surrendered along with his attorney.
The incident occurred on November 16 when a group of men started taunting Boyd and two other Jets players, wide receiver Irvin Charles and linebacker Jamien Sherwood, outside Sei Less restaurant near West 38th Street and Seventh Avenue. After a prolonged argument, a fight broke out, prompting gunfire that injured Boyd.
Boyd was shot in the stomach and had to be airlifted to Bellevue Hospital in critical but stable condition. He later checked himself back into the hospital, citing ongoing health concerns. The police have not released the identity of the suspect or announced any charges against him.
According to authorities, the shooting happened after a group of four to five men mocked the Jets players' clothing as they entered the restaurant. A fight ensued, and then gunfire erupted. Detectives used facial recognition technology to identify witnesses and track down the getaway vehicle's drivers. Additionally, a Crime Stoppers tip led investigators to the suspect's social media account.
Police also recovered a $185,000 watch at the scene, which remains unclaimed as of Monday. The area where the shooting occurred is known for luxury cars and high-end restaurants, highlighting the upscale environment in which the incident took place.
Boyd signed with the Jets in March but has been on injured reserve since suffering a shoulder injury during practice in August. His health concerns have led to his ongoing hospital stay, adding another layer of complexity to this already disturbing case.
