Manchester City lose Dias for up to six weeks but book in Semenyo medical

Manchester City's injury woes deepened with the news that long-term defender Rúben Dias is set to miss action for up to six weeks with a hamstring strain, further straining Pep Guardiola's already beleaguered defensive options.

The absence of Dias and injured teammate Josko Gvardiol has forced Manchester City to scramble in search of defensive reinforcements. The club are reportedly considering a move for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guéhi, who is said to be their top target.

In a bid to bolster their central defensive ranks, the club have agreed to pay £65m to sign forward Antoine Semenyo, with a medical set to take place on Thursday. The 22-year-old has been in impressive form for Bournemouth and could prove to be a shrewd addition to City's squad.

Guardiola acknowledged that the injury crisis had hit his team hard, but remained optimistic about their ability to cope with the challenge. "We have enough," he said. "Some of them are coming back, and go for it." However, the manager's words ring hollow when considering the lack of depth in City's defensive ranks.

The absence of Dias and Gvardiol has meant that Manchester City are forced to rely on a mix of youth and experience at the back. Academy graduate Max Alleyne has been recalled from a loan at Watford to provide some extra cover, but it remains to be seen whether he can fill the void left by the injured duo.

The situation is further complicated by the injury to John Stones, who could miss out on several games with a thigh injury that will not keep him fit for the remainder of the season. The 31-year-old is set to run out of contract in the summer and Guardiola has hinted that he may not be offered fresh terms.

As Manchester City look to navigate this difficult period, it remains to be seen whether their transfer business will be enough to shore up their defensive options. With the club having spent big in the past, there are fears that they may feel compelled to make further additions if injuries continue to plague them. Only time will tell if Guardiola's plan of relying on existing players and "creative solutions" proves successful or not.

🤕 just heard man city gonna shell out 65m for semenyo lol like what are they thinking at this point gotta make room for him somehow 🤯 meanwhile dias is out for 6 weeks no word from pep on how they're gonna fill that void other than "we have enough" 😂 sounds like pep's got a few screws loose 💀

🤔 The recent string of injuries at Manchester City is a perfect example of how fragile a well-oiled machine can be. With Rúben Dias set to miss six weeks, Pep Guardiola is indeed between a rock and a hard place when it comes to bolstering his defensive options. On one hand, the club's willingness to spend £65m on Antoine Semenyo may prove to be a shrewd move, but on the other hand, the lack of depth in their ranks could ultimately come back to haunt them. 📉 The fact that Guardiola is relying on youth and experience to fill the void left by Dias and Gvardiol raises questions about the long-term sustainability of this approach. Will creative solutions prove enough, or will further injuries force the club's hand? ⏰

😩 u guys can imagine how frustrating it is for Pep Guardiola right now?! 🤯 He needs his defenders back ASAP and this injury crisis is just getting outta control 🚨💔 Like, Rúben Dias and Josko Gvardiol are the heartbeat of that team and without them, they're just limping along 😩 And now John Stones is injured too?!?! What's going on with these players?!?! 🤯

and to make matters worse, Guéhi is their top target but what if he doesn't work out?!?! Like, they need someone who can step in and make a real difference ASAP 🙅‍♂️ But you feel for Pep, he's trying everything to patch things up 💕 but it's hard when the injuries keep piling up 😩💔

ugh i'm getting so frustrated with manchester city right now!! 🤯 their defense is literally crumbling and pep guardiola is just winging it without addressing the depth issues 🙄. they're already shelling out 65m for semenyo but that's still not gonna fill the void left by dias and gvardiol. i get that injuries are tough, but come on! 🤦‍♂️ have some backup players ready to go?! max alleyne is like a hero right now 😊, but even he can't cover for a whole season. john stones' impending contract situation just makes things worse... what's the plan here?! 💬

can't believe pep's been saying they have enough defenders for ages now lol 🤣🙄 this injury crisis is getting out of hand, seems like city's been playing with 10 men on the pitch most of the time 💔😬 max alleyne's gonna be a lifesaver but only for a few games at most, needs some proper quality signings ASAP 🔥👍

ugh i just can't even think about man city right now my fave player lucas paquetá is getting married next month 🤵‍♂️ i was supposed to be his bday party guest but i had to cancel at the last min 😩 anyway back to man city - i feel like they're making some weird moves here paying 65m for antoine semenyo who's been playing in l1 and not even a first team regular 🤔 meanwhile cristian tello is getting loads of game time with Sevilla 💪 hope pep can get his defence sorted out before the season is over 🕰️ my sister is pregnant 🤰♀️
