A Michigan teacher has been fired after sending a message to colleagues that made light of shooting students dressed as turkeys for a Thanksgiving photo. The incident occurred at Hartland Consolidated Schools in Livingston County, where the teacher posed the students in front of an image of a hunter with a rifle.
The teacher's message, which was sent via text, read: "which one should we pick off first." The district's administrators deemed this comment as "despicable and thoughtless" and promptly launched an internal investigation. After admitting responsibility for the remark, the teacher was let go.
Despite receiving notification of the incident, the school waited over two weeks to inform parents about what happened. In a letter sent on Monday, the district assured that no child was ever in danger during the incident. However, local authorities have taken notice of the matter and are reviewing whether any laws were broken.
The decision to terminate the teacher's contract is being made by the school district's officials.
