Nasa considering early return of crew from ISS due to medical reasons

NASA is considering sending its crew back to Earth sooner than planned due to a mysterious medical issue affecting one of the astronauts on board the International Space Station. The agency cancelled Thursday's scheduled spacewalk, which would have marked a significant milestone in the six-month mission.

The astronaut dealing with the medical concern remains unidentified, but NASA assures that they are "in a stable condition" on the orbiting laboratory. In a statement, the agency emphasized that safely conducting its missions is the top priority and is evaluating all possible options, including bringing the crew home early.

A typical ISS rotation lasts six to eight months, with limited medical facilities and equipment for emergencies. The Crew-11 team, consisting of US astronauts Zena Cardman and Mike Fincke, Japanese astronaut Kimiya Yui, and Russian cosmonaut Oleg Platonov, was initially set to return in May but now faces a potential earlier departure.

Commander Fincke and flight engineer Cardman were scheduled for the Thursday spacewalk, which aimed to install equipment outside the station. Given the risks involved in spacewalks โ€“ including the need for months of training and the dangers associated with working in bulky spacesuits โ€“ any medical issues on the ISS are naturally closely guarded secrets.

Astronauts often keep their health struggles private, even when facing conditions like pinched nerves that forced Mark Vande Hei to cancel his 2021 spacewalk.

Wow ๐Ÿ˜ฎ, just imagine having a medical issue in space with no easy fix... how do they even detect it? ๐Ÿค” the fact that NASA is considering bringing the crew home early shows how seriously they're taking this situation... but on the other hand, I guess they don't want to risk anyone's life for the sake of science ๐Ÿ˜ฌ Interesting ๐Ÿ‘€

I'm getting some serious space vibes right now... Like what if this astronaut's condition is way more severe than we're being told? ๐Ÿš€ I mean, six months on the ISS without a proper medical checkup is already a risk, but if there's something seriously wrong with one of them... it's like playing a high-stakes game of Russian roulette up there. The thought of them having to spend months in space with a possibly unknown condition just isn't sitting right with me. NASA should really consider the astronaut's safety and well-being over any other priorities, you know? ๐Ÿค”

so now nasa's crew is gonna come home early cuz one of them has a mysterious medical issue lol what a great time for us humans to have made space travel so super convenient ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ‘€ i mean who needs six months in space when you can just bring it back home early and deal with the drama? ๐Ÿคฏ at least they're not gonna let anyone go "who's sick?" because let's be real, that's a total giveaway ๐Ÿ˜‚

๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ˜ฌ gotta feel for these astronauts... can't imagine dealing with a medical issue in space, no way to just rush to the hospital like we do on earth. and it's not just the physical risks, mental health too is a big concern up there... ๐Ÿคฏ

I mean, I'm all about format and structure, but even i gotta admit that having a crew member fall ill in space is like a real-life sci-fi movie plot ๐Ÿ˜‚. seriously though, nasa needs to get this sorted ASAP so they can bring the crew home safely.

i've been following the iss live streams for years now ๐Ÿ“บ, and it's always fascinating to see what goes on behind the scenes... but when something like this happens, it puts everything into perspective... ๐ŸŒŽ

omg this is crazy what's going on with that astronaut! i feel bad for them and their crew ๐Ÿค•๐Ÿ’” NASA has to prioritize their safety though, can't have anyone risking their life in space. it's like they're saying the grass isn't always greener up there, you know? sometimes you just gotta come home when things aren't right. and btw, a 6-month stint is already super long, so i don't blame them for wanting to get back ASAP ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ’จ

OMG ๐Ÿš€ just saw this news about NASA's crew returning early due to a mystery medical issue on the ISS... Like, what's going on?! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ This is so not good for the team and the mission goals! A spacewalk was cancelled, which is huge, because that would've been such an amazing milestone. Six-month missions are already super long, can't imagine dealing with any health issues up there ๐Ÿค•. Hope the astronaut is okay, but it's gotta be a big concern for NASA to even think about bringing them home early ๐Ÿ’”. Don't wanna jinx anything, fingers crossed everything works out smoothly ๐Ÿ‘

So NASA's being super cautious here ๐Ÿค”... I get it, safety first and all that, but cancelling the spacewalk already? That does seem a bit extreme ๐Ÿ’”. I mean, they're not going to bring the whole crew back early just because one astronaut has a mysterious medical issue, right? ๐Ÿšซ

And what's with the secrecy? Astronauts are always talking about the risks of space travel and how you gotta be in top shape for it... but when something like this happens, suddenly we're not supposed to know what's going on ๐Ÿค? I'm sure there are some medical concerns that need to be addressed ASAP, but can't they at least give us a hint about what's wrong? ๐Ÿค”

I just hope the crew gets back home safely and that whatever issue is going on, it doesn't have any serious long-term effects ๐Ÿ™. But yeah, this whole thing does seem a bit dramatic... let's just wait and see how things play out ๐Ÿ“บ

๐Ÿค” This is a big deal and I'm a bit worried about our astronauts ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ’•. Sending them back early might be a good idea if they're not feeling right, but it's also a bummer for the mission and the team that's been working so hard ๐Ÿค. Six months in space can't be easy on anyone, let alone with a mysterious medical issue lurking around ๐Ÿค’. It's great that NASA is prioritizing their safety, though ๐Ÿ˜Š. They should definitely keep us updated on what's going on โ€“ we don't want any surprises or cancellations at the last minute! ๐Ÿ“บ Can you imagine being an astronaut and having to deal with a health crisis in space? It's not exactly a walk in the park ๐ŸŒณ. I hope the person who's affected is getting the best care possible ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš•๏ธ.

๐Ÿค” I'm literally torn about this one... on one hand, I get why NASA wants to prioritize the crew's safety and bring them home ASAP, especially with no clear info on what's going on. I mean, those astronauts are literally living in a metal can for 6-8 months without any real medical backup ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ’‰.

BUT... at the same time, isn't this whole thing kinda like, super secretive? Like, why wouldn't they want to share more info about what's going on with that astronaut? And now we're just speculating and freaking out online because of a mysterious medical issue ๐Ÿ˜…. It's kinda like when you're driving down the road and suddenly your GPS says "recalculating"... no, seriously, can't they just be transparent about it? ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ

๐Ÿ˜ฌ it's crazy how quickly things can go sideways in space, ya know? i mean, you're up there with these highly trained astronauts who have spent months preparing for every eventuality, and then BAM! Some unknown medical issue pops up and suddenly everyone's scrambling to figure out what's going on. it's not just the crew member themselves that's affected, but also the whole mission - they can't just leave their colleagues stranded in orbit with limited resources.

i feel bad for zena cardman and mike fincke, who were supposed to be doing that spacewalk today... it's like all this momentum just got sucked out of them. i guess nasa's right to prioritize safety over all else, but still - can't help feeling a little sorry for the astronauts stuck in limbo up there ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ’”
