Need to stay in the know during NYC's major snowstorm? Here are some resources.

New York City is bracing itself for a potentially disastrous winter storm that's expected to bring heavy snowfall, strong winds, and freezing temperatures. The cold snap is predicted to last throughout the week, with Mayor Zohran Mamdani warning that it will be one of the coldest periods in about eight years.

Residents are advised to stay informed as widespread disruptions are anticipated across various services, including public transportation, sanitation, and schools. To keep up-to-date on the latest developments, listeners can tune into WNYC 93.9 FM and AM 820 for regular news updates, or check the Gothamist website for breaking news alerts.

Weather enthusiasts can stay ahead of the storm with forecasts, current conditions, and hazard alerts from the National Weather Service in New York and New Jersey. Meanwhile, emergency officials are urging residents to text NOTIFYNYC to stay informed about city-wide emergencies in their preferred language.

Property owners are also on high alert as the Department of Sanitation will be conducting salt spreading operations, and anyone who fails to clear their sidewalks could face fines. Additionally, the department is seeking to hire emergency snow shovelers to support their efforts.

The storm has sparked concerns about road conditions, with traffic maps available at 511NY.org and 511NJ.org providing vital information for commuters. Air travelers are advised to check with their airline for flight delays and cancellations, while residents without power can track outages through the websites of various utility companies.

For those affected by school closures or remote learning arrangements, updates are available from New York City Public Schools. Meanwhile, homeless individuals will have access to warming centers in both NYC and New Jersey.

In the aftermath of the storm, flood warnings will be necessary as snowmelt can cause waters to swell. To stay prepared, residents can review the city's winter guide to staying safe in the cold and planning for winter weather.

Lastly, for those who need assistance with reporting issues or seeking general information from city officials, they can dial 311 to reach the right place.

🌨️ I'm getting a bit worried about this storm! All these service disruptions are gonna be a real pain, especially for folks on fixed incomes or with disabilities 🤕. I hope the city's emergency crews are prepared to handle the situation... 511NY.org is such a lifesaver when it comes to traffic updates 🚗💨. Can't believe we're back to shoveling sidewalks again ❄️!

🌨️ I'm telling you, this storm is not just about the snow and wind, it's about control. The city's gonna use this as an excuse to raise taxes and increase surveillance even more 🚫. Have you seen those emergency text lines? It's just a way for them to collect our data and monitor our behavior. And what about the warming centers? Sounds like a way to keep us docile while they impose their will on us 😒. I'm not saying it's gonna be catastrophic, but there's something fishy going on here...

This is gonna be a rough week ☃️💨. I'm not even kidding, snowstorm of this magnitude hasn't hit NYC in ages! Residents gotta stay super prepared, you know? Like, if you live in one of those apartments with no backup power, get ready for some serious sacrifices on food and heat 🍔🔥. And don't even get me started on those sidewalks... property owners gotta come through or face the fine 💸. But hey, at least we got those warming centers set up for our homeless friends 🤝. I'm just hoping all this doesn't cause too much chaos and that everyone stays safe out there 😊.

idk why ppl r all freakin out about dis storm lol, like wut's the worst that's gonna happen? its just snow ❄️ and some wind, big deal! my aunt used to live in ny and she said it was never that bad, she just bundled up and went about her day. we shouldnt be so prepared for everything, sometimes u gotta roll with the punches 🤷‍♂️

Ugh, snow is like ❄️💨😬... think I'll be stuck at home all week 🏠📺... anyone got a good snow-day game plan? 🤔🎮... hope all those snow shovelers can keep up with the salt spreading ops 💪🧂... don't wanna get fined for not clearing my sidewalk ☃️😳... and air travel is gonna be a mess ✈️😩... think I'll just staycation 🛋️ instead! 😌

I'm getting so anxious about this storm! My kid's school has already announced that it'll be closed on Monday and Tuesday... I hope my little one doesn't get bored at home too much 🤒. And have you seen those traffic maps online? They're always so busy, what if it gets even worse? 😬 Maybe I should stock up on some hot chocolate just in case the power goes out for a while ⚡️. Anyone else preparing their homes and families for this cold snap?

omg i'm so over here like totally freaked out about this winter storm lol like i've been preparing my apartment all week with hot cocoa and candles but now i'm worried about getting power for days 🤯😬 anyone got a backup generator i need one stat!!! and ugh the thought of walking in the snow without warm clothes is just no thank you ❄️😒 also can we talk about why schools are still online during this? like isn't it safer to have kids learn from home with parents around 🤷‍♀️ anyway yeah stay safe nyc 🙏

OMG, THIS WINTER STORM IS GONNA BE A BIG DEAL!!! I MEAN, HEAVY SNOWFALL, STRONG WINDS, FREEZING TEMPS... IT'S LIKE, GET READY FOR THE WORST! 🌨️😱 people gotta stay inside and keep their homes warm, 'cause the power might go out. AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON SALT SPREADING - IF YOU DON'T CLEAR YOUR SIDEWALKS, YOU MIGHT GET FINED! 💸🚮 PLUS, THE TRAFFIC MAPS ARE GONNA BE CRAZY, SO PLAN AHEAD AND STUFF 🗺️. I HOPE EVERYONE IS PREPARED, 'CAUSE THIS STORM IS GONNA BE A REAL BUMMER!!! 😩

I don’t usually comment but... I feel so bad for all those ppl stuck at home cuz of the snowstorm 🌨️. They gotta be super careful not to slip on icy sidewalks & stuff. Property owners should def be prepared 2 pay up if they can’t clear their sidewalks, it’s only fair 🤑. And what about ppl without power? That’s just awful 😓. I hope emergency officials r doin enough 2 help out all those affected by the storm 💪.

Ugh, I'm literally shivering just thinking about this impending snowpocalypse 🌨️😩! Like, how are we supposed to deal with eight years of cold? What's next, a never-ending winter?! 😱 And don't even get me started on those property owners who can't be bothered to clear their sidewalks... fines? Are you kidding me?! That's just cruel 💸. But seriously, I do hope everyone stays safe and warm. This is gonna be a wild ride 🚨💥. And can someone please explain to me why we need to text NotifyNYC to stay informed about emergencies? Like, what if my phone dies?! 😂 Seriously though, let's all just take care of each other and make it through this together ❤️.
