Fashion Takes Center Stage in New HIV Awareness Initiative
A unique collaboration between fashion designers and HIV scientists is set to premiere on Hulu, titled "HIV Unwrapped". This special event aims to change the narrative surrounding HIV stigma by merging two seemingly disparate worlds: science and fashion.
Design students from Parsons School of Design partnered with leading HIV experts to create garments that tell a story about hope, resilience, and humanity. The project showcases how complex scientific concepts can be conveyed through the art of fashion.
According to Karl Schmid, executive producer of "HIV Unwrapped", the special highlights the power of collaboration between individuals from different backgrounds. "We're taking science, really complex science, and fashion, two worlds that you don't normally think come together, and weirdly, they do," he said.
The initiative also emphasizes the importance of sharing personal stories of those living with HIV. Bianca Ordoรฑez, who participated in the event, shared her experience, stating, "I want to show the world that regardless of what happens to you, we are more than the worst thing that has happened to us and that we can do incredible and be beautiful regardless of our HIV status."
The special will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the design process, highlighting how science experts contribute to the creation of garments. By merging fashion and science, "HIV Unwrapped" aims to promote awareness about HIV stigma and inspire conversations around hope, resilience, and humanity.
"HIV Unwrapped" streams on November 30th on Hulu, serving as a poignant reminder that even in the face of adversity, beauty and creativity can thrive.
