New process for heavy trash collection coming to City of Houston, Solid Waste says

Houston to Overhaul Heavy Trash Collection Process Amid Delays and Staffing Shortages

The City of Houston is set to introduce a new method for collecting heavy trash, marking a significant shift from the current scheduled collection days system. Under the revamped approach, residents will be able to request heavy trash collection by calling 311, with Solid Waste saying it aims to tackle delays and staffing shortages that have plagued the city.

The decision was made in response to the previous system's inability to sustain itself at a citywide scale. According to Solid Waste Director Larius Hassen, crews were often driving through streets without heavy trash, only to spend weeks on routes with minimal collection needs. This practice contributed to delays and backlogs.

With the new system, residents will be able to schedule heavy trash pickup by contacting 311. Solid Waste will then call or email the resident to arrange a collection appointment. The department claims that this approach will enable them to allocate resources more effectively and address service delays.

Under the revised system, collection is expected to take place within five working days of the scheduled date. Customer service will verify completion with photos and notify residents upon completion.

Hassen believes that this change will help reallocate resources where they are needed most. The new program allows for data collection on heavy trash requests, providing valuable insights into staffing needs and helping the department optimize its operations.

Until the new process tentatively begins on March 2, the current schedule will remain in place. However, with this overhaul, Houston residents can expect a more efficient and effective heavy trash collection service.

The revamped system is seen as a step forward for the City of Houston's waste management, aiming to improve customer service while reducing delays and backlogs.

this new system sounds like a win, i mean who doesn't hate waiting around all day for their trash to be collected lol. at least now they're getting rid of that old way of doing it which was clearly not working ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. the fact that they're collecting data on heavy trash requests is pretty cool too, gotta love technology and finding ways to make our lives easier ๐Ÿ˜Š. can't wait to try out this new system and see how it goes ๐Ÿ‘

OMG, I'm so glad they're finally making some changes in Houston's trash collection ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿšฎ. The old system was literally driving them crazy! With this new way of requesting heavy trash pickup, it should be a total game-changer for residents like me who are tired of waiting weeks for their stuff to get picked up ๐Ÿ˜ฉ. And can we talk about how cool it is that Solid Waste is using data collection to optimize its operations? It's like they're straight outta Silicon Valley ๐Ÿ’ป! I'm rooting for them, and fingers crossed it all works out smoothly by March 2 ๐Ÿคž๐ŸŒŸ

ok so like imagine the citys trash cans are like big puzzle pieces ๐Ÿคฏ - they gotta fit together just right or everything falls apart ๐Ÿ˜…... right now the system is like a jumbled mess with crews driving around collecting trash for weeks on routes that dont even need it ๐Ÿšฎ.

but the new system is like a neat diagram ๐Ÿ“Š where customers can call 311 to schedule heavy trash collection and Solid Waste will match them up with available crews ๐Ÿ“ž... it's gonna take five days, which seems slow but honestly its better than the old system ๐Ÿ˜….

i like how they're tracking data on requests now ๐Ÿ’ก so they can see what needs more help and allocate resources accordingly ๐Ÿ‘ฅ... it feels like a step in the right direction for Houston's trash game ๐Ÿ†

yooo ๐Ÿคฉ just heard about houston's new heavy trash collection system and i am SO here for it ๐Ÿ™Œ! like, who doesn't love not having to wait weeks for their bulk pickup? ๐Ÿ˜’ the old way was literally a nightmare. i mean, driving around collecting trash when you only need it on one street is just a waste of resources ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ. this new system sounds so much more organized and efficient - scheduling it by phone or email? genius ๐Ÿ’ก! and the fact that they're going to send pics to verify completion? lowkey impresses me ๐Ÿ“ธ๐Ÿ‘

omg, i'm so over that current trash collection system in houston lol it was like they were flying around collecting the easy stuff only to get stuck on the hard routes ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ. this new request-by-phone thingy is gonna be a total game-changer tho! no more stressing about when your heavy trash is getting picked up ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. and having them call or email you to set it up? genius ๐Ÿ’ก it's all about optimizing resources now, which is so smart ๐Ÿค“

I'm so sure that this new system is gonna be a total disaster ๐Ÿคฏ... I mean, who needs more data collection? It just adds another layer of bureaucracy, if you ask me ๐Ÿ™„... But on the other hand, scheduling heavy trash pickup by calling 311 makes sense, it's like having a personal butler for your garbage ๐Ÿ˜‚... or maybe not, considering the city has been struggling with staffing shortages and delays in the past. Hmm, is this new system gonna solve those issues or just create more headaches? ๐Ÿค” I'm kinda torn about this one, it's like my brain is playing tug-of-war with itself ๐Ÿคฏ

omg this new system sounds like a total game changer ๐Ÿšฎ๐Ÿ’ก i mean can you imagine having to schedule your heavy trash pickup like it's a coffee order or something? but seriously it makes so much sense that they're gonna be more efficient with resources now. i'm just hoping it doesn't cause any more delays at first, like the city is trying to fix one problem but ends up creating another ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ

anyway i think its awesome that solid waste is using data to optimize their operations, thats some high level thinking right there ๐Ÿ‘ and its cool that they're gonna be able to see how many heavy trash requests are coming in and stuff. maybe this will help them figure out where the problem really lies and can start making changes on a bigger scale ๐Ÿค”

also i wonder if this new system is just the beginning of some bigger changes for houston's waste management, like maybe they'll be implementing more recycling programs or something ๐Ÿšฎ๐Ÿ’ช

You know what's crazy? I just got back from this amazing food truck festival last weekend ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ‘Œ and their trash cans were literally overflowing with paper cups and lids... it made me think that maybe we should rethink our whole single-use plastic culture, idk if it'll make a difference but it'd be nice to see some changes in the future ๐Ÿ˜Š.

Ugh, finally some sense in Houston! I mean, come on, 5 working days isn't that long, right? ๐Ÿ™„ It's about time they revamped their system, especially with all those staffing shortages. I was thinking the same thing when I saw this news, it makes total sense to have a more efficient way of collecting heavy trash. And good for them calling 311 instead of just driving around wasting time. I'm sure the data collection will help them figure out where they need to allocate their resources better. Let's hope it works and those delays are a thing of the past! ๐Ÿ’ช

omg, finally! they're doin somethin about this trash mess ๐Ÿšฎ๐Ÿ’ช i mean, who doesnt love a good heavy trash collection day? but seriously, 5 working days is still kinda long... can't we get it to like, same day or sumthin? ๐Ÿ˜‚ anyway, at least now we can request it online and they'll try to figure out where the resources are needed most ๐Ÿค”. lets hope this new system doesnt turn into a whole other headache ๐Ÿ™„ but i guess its a start ๐Ÿ‘

just heard about houston's new trash collection system ๐Ÿšฎ๐Ÿ˜ฌ gotta say, i'm all for it! the old scheduled collection days were just not cutting it, right? having to drive around without heavy trash and then spend weeks on routes with minimal needs was a recipe for disaster ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. this new system seems like a breath of fresh air - scheduling it by calling 311 is so much easier than trying to figure out when the next collection day is ๐Ÿ“…. i hope it really does help allocate resources more effectively and reduce those pesky delays โฑ๏ธ. one thing's for sure, houston residents are gonna love having a more efficient and effective heavy trash collection service ๐Ÿ’ฏ

๐Ÿคฉ I totally get why they're making this change! Our trash collection schedule has always been so inconsistent โ€“ sometimes we'd be stuck waiting weeks for our heavy stuff to get picked up, only for the guys to drive right on by without it ๐Ÿ˜’. This new system is gonna save us all some serious time and frustration! Having 311 as an option to request a pickup appointment is super convenient ๐Ÿ’ก. Plus, having those pics from the Solid Waste team to confirm everything's been collected is just extra peace of mind ๐Ÿ“ธ. I'm loving that they're trying to optimize their ops by tracking data on heavy trash requests โ€“ it'll be interesting to see how it all plays out!

I'm not sure about this new system, I mean like how can they just call 311 and get a pickup in like 5 days? That sounds too good to be true lol ๐Ÿค”. And what's with the photos thingy? I don't know if that's gonna work out in practice. Like, what if someone doesn't answer their phone or email when the customer service is trying to verify the collection? It's all a bit confusing for me ๐Ÿ˜•. Still, gotta give credit to Solid Waste for trying something new and hopefully it'll make life easier for Houston residents ๐Ÿคž. And btw, remember when they first introduced curbside recycling back in the 90s? I'm old ๐Ÿ’โ€โ™€๏ธ!

๐Ÿค” so they're just gonna start calling everyone when it's their turn now? like how can we trust that won't be more chaotic than the old system? i mean, what if people forget or don't answer the phone? and what about all the extra fees for scheduling a call or something? seems like a money grab to me ๐Ÿค‘ plus, how do they plan on handling the heavy stuff that takes longer to collect? is it just gonna be a bunch of extra labor or are we expecting some fancy new equipment? ๐Ÿ’ธ
