New South Loop pickleball club mural features pickles — and pickles playing pickleball

A vibrant new mural in Chicago's South Loop area has become a hotspot for pickleball enthusiasts and art lovers alike. The 1900 S Wabash Ave building, home to ChiPickle, the city's newest pickleball club, boasts a stunning wall of color created by over a dozen talented street artists.

As you step inside the building, the first thing that catches your eye is the whimsical world outside – literally. On the south-facing wall of the entrance, 10 creatures take center stage. Some are playing pickleball, while others resemble pickles themselves. Yes, you read that right! Pickleballs are even depicted in mid-air.

Artist Diosa takes pride in his creation, which features a vampire-like figure with a pickleball on one ear and red flames burning behind him. This is not the only fascinating piece of art – Kozmo's cheeseburger-flower boasts an arm emerging from the top bun to whack the ball, while Milt's pickle broke its racket and focuses on salt, limes, and Tajin seasoning instead.

Bird Milk, another artist involved in the project, exudes enthusiasm for his contribution. He describes it as a "fun, goofy little pickle character" who holds up one of his smaller bird characters along with a pickleball. The sheer variety of styles and ideas showcased on this massive wall is truly awe-inspiring, offering something for everyone to enjoy.

Pickleball courts owner Tony Chen requested the mural as a way to deter graffiti in the area, which backs onto the CTA's Green Line L tracks. His wish has been more than fulfilled – the resulting artwork is a visual feast that will undoubtedly attract passersby and pickleball enthusiasts alike.

Just got wind of this super cool new mural in Chicago 🤯🎨 but what's with all the pickle-themed art? Like, isn't that kinda...much? 🤷‍♂️ I mean, I guess it's good for business or whatever since ChiPickle is supposed to be some kinda big deal now 💸 but seriously can you blame me if I'm a bit over pickleballs as an "art form"? 🤪 Anywayz, at least the artists seemed pretty chill about it and added all these fun little details like the vampire dude with a pickleball ear 👻🧀. Guess you could say it's definitely making a statement – or maybe just making a whole lotta noise 📢

Do you think murals like this can bring communities together and make places more vibrant? 🤝

I'm low-key surprised that the mural kinda worked its magic... but at the same time, I think it's actually kinda cheesy 🤣 - I mean, who thought it was a good idea to put vampires and cheeseburgers on a wall about pickleballs? On the other hand, it's super cool that artists like Diosa and Bird Milk were able to let their creativity run wild and make something truly unique. But don't even get me started on Tony Chen - is he for real asking for graffiti to happen in the first place... I guess you could say his wish was kinda granted 🤷‍♂️

Ugh, another tourist trap in the making 🤦‍♂️. I mean, who thought it was a good idea to put a giant mural of people playing pickleball on a building? It's just gonna attract all sorts of weirdos and hipsters to the area 🎨. And don't even get me started on how much money they're gonna charge for those pickleballs 🤑. I'm sure Tony Chen was super motivated by his "wish" to deter graffiti, lol 😂. Like anyone actually cares about public art over just getting rid of some taggers. And the fact that it's in a building with a pickleball club? Just great, now we've got an even bigger draw for people who are already weird 🤪.

I get his original goal of preventing graffiti, but this is a game-changer! 👏 Now ChiPickle's got a sick Instagram-worthy spot that'll draw in tourists and locals alike. The only thing I'd love to see more of is how they maintained the building's character while making it an art hub. 🤔

And, I gotta say, it really works! I saw people taking pics with their friends and just enjoying the vibes outside. The artist who created this masterpiece is some kind of genius 🤓. It's not just a mural - it's an experience!
