NYPD says no specific threats to Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, but security will be tight

New York City is gearing up for its 99th Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, with security measures in place to ensure a safe event. While there are no specific or credible threats reported, officials have assured that the NYPD will be heavily deployed along the parade route.

Thousands of uniformed officers will line the two-and-a-half-mile stretch from Central Park West to Herald Square, backed up by blocker vehicles and metal barricades. Additionally, drones and helicopters will provide aerial surveillance, while intelligence teams scour social media for any potential threats.

Mayor Eric Adams and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch have emphasized the importance of security, with Adams calling it "the official start of the holiday season" and a boost to the city's economy. Tisch assured that the measures in place would keep everyone safe, but hinted at some additional precautions being taken behind the scenes.

For spectators, the parade is expected to draw millions to Manhattan, and officials have advised them to use public transit and stay alert. Once again, classic characters like Snoopy will fly high amidst new additions such as the Derpy Tiger from KPOP DEMON HUNTERS.

Viewers at home can catch the live broadcast on NBC or stream it on Peacock, while street closures for the event are available on the city's website.

omg its gonna be a wild ride!!! 🎉 they r totes serious about security this yr, i get it esp w/ all the craziness thats been goin on... 2 & half miles of cops lined up is no joke lol meanwhile snoopy will still b the real MVP 🐾💕 dont wanna miss the Derpy Tiger tho 🤣 nbc peacock has got u covered btw

omg i cant even think about thanksgiving without thinking about the macys parade 🎉👗! its like the highlight of my year, you know? and this year is gonna be lit with all those new characters flying around 🕺 derpy tiger sounds sooo cool lol. but seriously though, i mean the security measures arent a bad thing, they gotta make sure everyone has a safe time. i love how mayor adams said it was like the start of the holiday season tho, it gets me every time ❤️😊 can't wait to watch it with my fam and friends, its just one of those special events that never gets old 🎄

Oh man, I got a bad feeling about this 🤔. Like, don't get me wrong, I love Snoopy and all, but a 99th Macy's parade? That's like my grandma trying to keep up with TikTok trends – it's just not gonna happen 😂. On a serious note, though, security is always top priority, especially on Thanksgiving Day when everyone's already in a tryptophan-induced haze 🥧. It's good to know the NYPD is ready to roll out the red carpet... or in this case, the blue lights and metal barricades 💡. Can't wait to see the Derpy Tiger fly high (or maybe just get lost in the crowd) 🐯!

I'm so down for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade this year 🎉🦅! I've been looking forward to it all week. The extra security is a bit much, tbh... like, we get it, NYC is big and crazy, but have they considered just having more volunteers or something? Instead of deploying thousands of cops, why not train some civilians in basic crowd control? 🤔

But hey, I'm sure the NYPD will do their thing. The parade route looks so lit with all those classic characters flying by! And yay for new additions like Derpy Tiger from KPOP DEMON HUNTERS 😂👻 Can't wait to see what they look like in real life.

For me, it's always about finding creative ways to make the most of our city's events. Maybe instead of blocking off streets, we could have more pop-up markets or DIY stations along the route? That way, spectators can still enjoy the vibes without adding to traffic chaos 🌈💡

omg is security really that tight now ?? like i get it its thanksgiving day and people wanna feel safe but like 2000+ cops lined up along a 2.5 mile stretch? 🤯 can someone explain to me why they need so many ppl just to watch some floats go by??

🚨 The eyes that know the look of fear 💀 will be watching from above 👀 as NYPD officers prepare to keep the streets safe 🛡️ for the 99th Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade 🎉

I'm just wondering how much of our tax dollars are being spent on this whole parade and security setup... I mean, don't get me wrong, I love a good parade as much as the next person, but 99 years is a long time, you know? And all these measures in place... it's like they're trying to make sure everyone stays safe from, like, robot invasions or something 😂. On a more serious note, have we ever stopped to think about why this event has become so iconic and what it really represents? Is it just a celebration of consumerism and the holiday season, or is there something more to it? 🤔

I just love how they're taking extra precautions to ensure everyone's safety at the Macy's parade 🚨👮‍♀️! I get why you'd wanna feel secure, especially with so many people gathering in one spot. But gotta say, all that security might make it a bit more of an event than usual 😅. Like, are they really gonna block off Central Park West to two-and-a-half miles? A few barricades here and there is fine, but do we need the whole NYPD on duty? 🤔 Still, I'm all for keeping everyone safe! And omg, Snoopy and Derpy Tiger are gonna fly so high this year 🎉👍.

🚨 got to wonder what kinda security measures they're planning behind closed doors 🤐 seems like a lot of fuss for a parade 🎉 but i guess when you're talking about millions of people in one spot, you gotta be prepared 💡 hope everyone stays safe and has an amazing time watching the parade 🌟 those drone and helicopter patrols sound pretty intense tho 🚁👀

Man, I'm a bit worried about all these security measures... like, I get it, safety first and all that 🤔, but sometimes I feel like it overshadows the fun part of the parade? And can we talk about how cool some of those new additions are gonna be? Derpy Tiger from KPOP DEMON HUNTERS? That's lit 🎉! Anyway, I do hope everyone stays safe and has a great time watching the parade... gotta love the nostalgia of it all ❤️.
