Stanford Cardinal Breaks Streak with Dominant Win Over Georgia Tech
In a much-needed victory, Stanford's Ebuka Okorie scored a career-high 40 points to propel the Cardinal to a 95-72 win over Georgia Tech on Saturday night. The dominant performance marked an end to a five-game losing streak for the team, which now sits at 15-9 overall and 4-7 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.
Okorie's standout performance came behind a scorching hot shooting night, as he shot 12 of 21 from the floor, made three three-pointers, and sank all 13 of his free throw attempts. The Nigerian forward surpassed his previous high of 36 points scored against North Carolina earlier this month.
Jeremy Dent-Smith added 16 points for Stanford, which shot an impressive 54% overall (33 of 61) and 17 of 19 from the foul line. The Cardinal began the second half on a 13-4 run to extend its lead to 56-43, before Georgia Tech pulled to within eight points with just over 11 minutes remaining.
However, Stanford's defense proved too much for the Yellow Jackets to handle, as they were unable to get closer than four points down despite a late push from Akai Fleming, who scored 19 points. Baye Ndongo added 14 points and Jaeden Mustaf scored 13 for Georgia Tech, which has now lost five straight.
The win marks a much-needed boost for Stanford, which will look to build on the momentum as it heads to Boston College on Wednesday.
