Patriots elevate veteran RB D'Ernest Johnson ahead of Sunday's game vs. Falcons

Patriots Boost Veteran RB D'Ernest Johnson Ahead of Sunday's Game vs. Falcons

The New England Patriots have bolstered their backfield by elevating veteran running back D'Ernest Johnson to the 53-man roster, paving the way for his potential debut on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.

With starting running back Rhamondre Stevenson nursing a toe injury, the Patriots have turned to Johnson, a seven-year NFL veteran with extensive experience in the league. This addition comes as the team seeks to address the depth of their running back corps, which has been depleted by injuries to key players such as Antonio Gibson and Stevenson.

Johnson's inclusion on the roster could provide a significant boost to the Patriots' offense, particularly if he sees action on either offense or special teams. The veteran has experience returning kicks in the NFL, which could make him an attractive option for the Patriots, who have been searching for a reliable kick returner since Gibson suffered a season-ending ACL injury.

The Patriots have elevated Henderson as the primary running back for Sunday's game, but Johnson's addition raises questions about his role and potential involvement in the backfield moving forward. With the trade deadline looming on Tuesday, there remains a possibility that the team could explore trading for additional talent to bolster their running back corps. However, unless Stevenson's injury keeps him sidelined for an extended period, adding another running back might not be as pressing of a priority.

On Sunday, Henderson, Terrell Jennings, and Johnson will look to help the Patriots continue their winning streak, which currently stands at five games. The game is set to kick off at 1 p.m. at Gillette Stadium.

omg I'm hyped for this game!!! ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ’ฅ D'Ernest Johnson looks like he's gonna bring some serious heat to the Patriots' backfield! ๐Ÿ˜Ž With Stevenson out, it'll be interesting to see how Henderson and Jennings hold up. But honestly, adding a veteran like Johnson could make all the difference. I'm lovin' the move by Belichick ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿˆ, now let's hope they can keep this winning streak goin'!!! ๐Ÿ’ช #PatriotsNation #RBdepth #DErnestJohnson #NFL

idk about this move...d'ernest johnson's just a veteran fill-in, right? like, he's got experience, but is it enough for the patriots? they need someone with more upside, you feel? elevating him to the 53-man roster seems like a band-aid solution to a deeper problem. and what about henderson's supposed 'primary' role now? does that mean stevenson's injury keeps him out for good? the trade deadline looms, but trading for another rb just feels like throwing good money after bad...

So they're bringing in this vet RB D'Ernest Johnson to fill in for Rhamondre Stevenson who's out with a toe injury... seems like a good move? I mean, Stevenson's been playing pretty well so far, but injuries happen. Johnson has some experience under his belt, which is always a plus. Hopefully he can help the team keep their winning streak going on Sunday against Atlanta ๐Ÿˆ

omg i'm so down for d ernest johnson to make his debut on sunday ๐Ÿคฉ! he's got some serious experience under his belt and i think he could bring a new dynamic to the patriots' offense ๐Ÿ”ฅ. plus, he can return kicks which is super important for a team like theirs that's been searching for a reliable kick returner ๐Ÿ˜…. i'm curious to see how head coach bill belichick will use him in the lineup though ๐Ÿค”. and fingers crossed that rhamondre stevenson gets healthy soon so we don't have to worry about them scrambling for another running back ๐Ÿคž. it's gonna be a great game on sunday!

๐Ÿค” think it's gonna be interesting with D'Ernest Johnson in the mix ๐Ÿ”„. been a while since they've had some depth issues with RBs, so hopefully it doesn't affect their running game too much ๐Ÿšซ. Patterson's been doing well as #1 back, but I'm curious to see how Johnson fits into the equation ๐Ÿ’ญ. could be nice to have another option if Patterson gets hurt ๐Ÿค•. might also give them some versatility on special teams, which is always a bonus โšก๏ธ!

omg I'm so hyped for this game ๐Ÿคฉ! D'Ernest Johnson coming in mid-season is like a breath of fresh air for the Patriots' offense lol. I mean, who doesn't love an underdog story? The way he was brought up to replace Rhamondre Stevenson after his toe injury is like, totally fair imo... I feel bad for Stevenson though ๐Ÿ˜”. And can we talk about how exciting it is that Johnson has experience returning kicks? That's like, a whole new dimension of skillset ๐Ÿคฏ! As long as Henderson and Jennings are doing their thing, I'm all for this new addition to shake things up on offense... Bring on Sunday and let's see what this guy can do!!! ๐Ÿ’ช

๐Ÿค” I'm thinking the Patriots might be getting a little ahead of themselves if they're counting on D'Ernest Johnson to step up and save their running back woes ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ. I mean, yeah, he's got experience, but can he really lead the team to a win against the Falcons? ๐Ÿ˜ฌ They need to see how he'll perform under pressure before they start relying on him big time โš ๏ธ. Plus, with Rhamondre Stevenson potentially returning soon, it might not be as urgent for them to make a trade ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Still, it's an interesting move and I'm curious to see how it plays out ๐Ÿ’ฌ!

I'm totally against D'Ernest Johnson joining the Patriots ๐Ÿค”. I think it's a huge mistake, they should've stuck with Rhamondre Stevenson or tried to get him back from injury sooner. Now they're gonna have to deal with another veteran RB who might not be as efficient or bring as much energy to the team. And what about Henderson? He was doing just fine before this crazy move. This is just a panic play by the Patriots trying to fill a hole, but it's probably gonna come back and bite 'em ๐Ÿค‘

I'm low-key bummed that they brought in D'Ernest Johnson ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ... I mean, what's wrong with Rhamondre Stevenson already? He's been doing fine and now we gotta bring in some old veteran just to shake things up? Not convinced on this move at all ๐Ÿ˜’. It's like, why mess with a good thing? And what's the point of bringing in someone who's basically gonna be the same backfield depth that's been getting them beat all season ๐Ÿˆ.

OH MY GOSH, I THINK THIS IS SUCH A GREAT MOVE BY THE PATRIOTS!!! THEY'RE REALLY SHOWING THAT THEY CARE ABOUT THEIR TEAM AND WANT TO MAKE SURE EVERYONE'S HEALTHY! D'ERNEST JOHNSON IS LIKE, SO EXPERIENCED AND PROVEN, AND IT WOULD BE AMAZING TO SEE HIM ON THE FIELD ON SUNDAY!

AND I FEEL BAD FOR RHAMONDRE STEVENSON, GETTING INJURED AND ALL, BUT AT LEAST THE PATRIOTS ARE PREPARING FOR ANYTHING! ELEVATING HENDERSON AS THE PRIMARY RUNNING BACK IS A GOOD MOVE TOO, AND IT'S GOING TO BE FUN TO SEE HIM DO HIS THING!

BUT SERIOUSLY, I THINK THIS ADDITION COULD MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN THE GAME, ESPECIALLY IF JOHNSON CAN BRING SOME EXTRA ENERGY TO SPECIAL TEAMS! LET'S GO PATRIOTS!!!

OMG ๐Ÿคฏ๐Ÿˆ just read that D'Ernest Johnson is joining the Pats ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ˜‚ hopefully he can help Rhamondre Stevenson out when he's back from toe injury ๐Ÿ‘ฃ๐Ÿ’ช, would be awesome if they can get back to their winning ways ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ’จ, five games in a row is crazy ๐Ÿ’ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ!

omg what's with the patriots always making moves like this?! ๐Ÿคฏ they're basically just throwing money at their problems and hoping it sticks lol. i mean de'ernest johnson's got some good exp, but is he really gonna be the savior of their running game? seems like a desperation move to me...

I'm actually really stoked about this move by the Pats! It's great that they're giving D'Ernest Johnson a chance to shine - he's got a ton of experience and could be just what they need to spice up their running game ๐Ÿคฉ. And I love how it gives Rhamondre Stevenson another opportunity to bounce back from his injury, fingers crossed he'll be back on the field soon! ๐Ÿ’ช The fact that Johnson can also return kicks is like, a total win-win for the team - it's like they're getting two players for the price of one ๐Ÿค‘. And let's not forget, this trade deadline is just around the corner, so who knows what other surprises they've got up their sleeve? Maybe they'll pick up some more depth and come out even stronger on the other side! ๐Ÿ”ฎ

omg did u think the patriots were gonna keep stevenson out? that toe injury was pretty severe lol... but seriously though D'Ernest Johnson's addition could give them an extra boost, especially with kick returns ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. and yeah i dont think they're gonna trade for another rb unless stevensons is out for a while... the patriots are good at making clutch moves, remember when u guys got mac jones? ๐Ÿค‘

I'm so down on this move by the Patriots ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. They're just trying to paper over some depth issues with a veteran RB who's never been a starter in his career... D'Ernest Johnson is like the NFL equivalent of a warm-up act ๐ŸŽธ. I mean, what makes them think he's gonna bring a new level of production to their offense? And let's be real, they're basically giving him a roster spot just because Stevenson got hurt and not because they think he's a game-changer... This might be a move that ends up costing them more than it helps ๐Ÿค‘.

omg this is so good for the patriots! they really need a solid running back after stevenson got hurt and antonio gibson went down too ๐Ÿค• hopefully johnson can bring some energy to that position. i'm thinking he might be our best shot at beating the falcons on sunday ๐Ÿ’ช

So the Pats just gave D'Ernest Johnson a chance to shine... think this is gonna be a solid move? Johnson's got some decent experience under his belt, and having him on special teams could definitely help with the kick return game ๐Ÿค”. I'm not sold that he'll take over as primary RB for Sunday, though - Rhamondre Stevenson's injury still looks like a major concern, and if he can't go, they might need to get creative elsewhere... but hey, it's good to have some depth, right?
