Powerball Jackpot Hits $1 Billion—Here’s What The Winner Could Take Home

Powerball jackpot has reached a staggering $1 billion, making it the second-largest lottery prize of 2025 thus far. However, for the winner, the actual take-home amount will be significantly lower due to taxes and deductions.

In Wednesday's drawing, no ticket matched all six numbers, which were 10, 16, 29, 33, 69, and Red Powerball 22. The eventual winner has a choice between two payment options: taking a lump sum of $461.3 million or opting for the annualized payments.

The lump-sum option would initially yield around $351 million after a mandatory federal withholding of 24%. However, with the federal marginal rate as high as 37%, depending on their taxable income, the winner's winnings would plummet to approximately $291 million.

On the other hand, if the installment route is chosen, the winner's annual payments of $33.3 million would drop to a mere $21 million after applying the same 37% federal marginal rate.

The next Powerball jackpot draw takes place on Saturday night, and fans are eagerly waiting to see if anyone will match all six numbers to claim this massive prize.

OMG u guys I'm literally so hyped for the next Powerball drawing lol I've been playing every single day since I found out about that $1 billion jackpot 🤑🎉 my mom is literally freaking out bc she thinks one of us has to win and pay off our mortgage or something. anyway idk if anyone else has thought of this but did u know that the tax rate can be super high depending on how much money u make? like i'm no expert but 37% seems crazy 😱 even tho taking the lump sum sounds like a great idea at first idk if it's really worth giving up half my winnings lol🤷‍♀️

oh man that's crazy how much that powerball jackpot is 🤑😱 can you even imagine winning that kind of money? but it's sad that the winner has to deal with so many deductions and taxes, it's like a big chunk of their luck just goes straight to the government 🤔😒 they're gonna have to be super smart with their finances to make the most of all that cash 💸

1 billion dollars is just wild 🤯 like who even wins that much money? how do they even spend it? i saw a vid of someone buying a whole new house with 100 million lol. but the tax thing kinda sucks, 37% is still super steep 😒 my grandma works hard for her money and cant afford to lose half of it...

🤑 I'm not surprised the taxes are as steep as they are, you gotta keep the system afloat somehow 😅. It's crazy to think about how much the winner would actually take home - $291 million?! That's some serious scratch 💸. I guess if you're the lucky one who wins it all, you'd be wise to opt for those annual payments. At least that way you wouldn't have to shell out a huge chunk of cash all at once 😬. Can't wait to see what happens next Saturday - fingers crossed someone will match those numbers and claim the prize! 🤞

🤯 Can you even imagine winning that kind of money? I mean, $291 million after taxes? That's like, a whole lifetime of savings just for one person! 😲 But at the same time, it's crazy how much tax you have to pay just because of that big win. I feel bad for the winner, they're gonna have to live with that 37% marginal rate for a while 🤕. And on top of that, their social life is basically going to be zero - all eyes are on them, no more normal life 😳. Guess it's a trade-off between freedom and financial security... not sure I'd wanna make that choice 🤑.

oh man can u even imagine? $1 billion is like, a whole new level of life changing! 🤑 but yeah i guess it's not all sunshine and rainbows... those tax rates sound crazy 💸 and now the winner has to choose between living large for one minute or slowly growing richer over time 🤔 either way, whoever wins is gonna be set for life 💪

omg can u even imagine winning that much $$$?? it's crazy how tax man takes like half of it lol 🤑🤯 but seriously, the installment payments option sounds kinda appealing tho... i mean who needs that much cash upfront? $21 million a year is still a pretty solid chunk of change 💸😂

man... that's crazy! imagine having to deal with that kind of money... tax-wise, it's like, whoa 🤯. i think it's pretty smart of the winner to opt for the annual payments instead of taking the lump sum upfront. like, sure, they'll get less money initially, but at least their taxes won't be so astronomical 💸. and honestly, $21 million a year is still a lot of money, you know? 🤑

I mean, can you believe that number?! 😲 I'm still trying to wrap my head around $1 billion! Like, what would you even do with that kinda cash? 🤑 I think the winner's got some tough decisions ahead of them, especially when it comes to taxes and all that jazz. I'm no expert, but 37% is a pretty steep rate, if you ask me. 💸 Either way, can't wait to see who wins (if anyone does!) on Saturday! 🎉

I just don't get why they have to take so much in taxes 😩. Like, I know the government needs it for stuff, but a billion bucks is a LOT of money! Can you even imagine having that kind of wealth and still giving most of it away? 🤯 On the other hand, if I won, I'd be living large on those $21 million annual payments 💸. Anyone else think the tax rates are crazy high?! 👀

I'm literally shook by this powerball win 🤯! The second-largest lottery prize of the year is insane, but have you seen the numbers they're gonna take out? Like 24% federal withholding and a marginal rate of 37%?! That's brutal 💸👎. I mean, who can afford to pay that much in taxes? It's like they're trying to suck the life outta that jackpot 🤪.

I'm actually kinda curious about these annual payments now though... $21 million per year is no joke 🤑. I'd rather have a steady income than a lump sum of $291 million, lol. But for real, can you imagine the financial planning and strategy that would come with winning this much money? It's like being a millionaire, but with more lawyers and accountants 📊💼.

Anyway, Saturday night can't come soon enough - I'm hyped to see if anyone else will take home the top prize 💥!

I'm not sure how I feel about people spending that kinda cash 🤯... like, what's the point of having a billion bucks if you're just gonna give 37% of it away in taxes? 💸 It's cool for the winner to have a choice though, some people might want that lump sum cash upfront. But others might be okay with getting a steady stream of income each year - I guess it depends on how they wanna live their life 🤷‍♀️

I'm literally shakin my head about this lottery thing... I mean, who in their right mind would wanna take that much money? 🤑💸 Like, think of all the stress and attention you'd have to deal with after winning! 🤯 On the other hand, taking it all at once might be a total scam artist move since they'll just take like half your winnings as taxes anyway 🤑... BUT, on the flip side, who knows how much better off you'd be financially in the long run if you don't have to live paycheck to paycheck?! 🤷‍♀️ I guess it's all about weighing the pros and cons, but honestly, I'm just not sure what to do if I won... 🤑😂

Umm yeah so like the Powerball jackpot is literally huge 😱 but what's with all these taxes? Like can't we just have a percentage of our winnings instead of it being soooo complicated?! 🤯 I mean I get that governments need money and all but still... if someone wins a billion bucks they should be able to keep like 90% of it or something! 😂 And what's up with the payment options? $291 million vs $21 million... which one would you choose lol idk i guess both sound kinda scary at the same time 🤑

omg, can u even imagine winning that kind of cash lol? but seriously, taxes and deductions are just crazy 🤯 i mean, who expects to have 37% of their winnings taken away right off the bat? and now the annualized payments are only $21 mil? that's still a life-changing amount, don't get me wrong, but still... maybe someone should've thought twice about playing the lottery before buying a new house or something 🤷‍♀️ anyway, can't wait to see if anyone wins on saturday 🎉

I'm not sure why everyone's so stoked about the Powerball jackpot 🤑. I mean, $1 billion is a lot of money, but let's be real, it's just a number 🤔. The thing that really gets me is how much taxes they'll have to shell out 💸. 37% federal marginal rate? That's crazy! It feels like the government just wants a piece of their luck 😂. If I won, I'd probably opt for the annualized payments myself, at least until my tax situation settles down 🤷‍♀️. Anyone else feeling the same way or am I just being too skeptical about this whole lottery thing?

🤑 omg can u even imagine gettin that kind of cash?? but yea the taxes gotta be a total bummer - $291 million after taxes is still crazy rich tho 🤯 either way its def gonna change their life for sure...and i feel bad 4 those who didnt win lol 😂

Ugh, I feel bad for the person who's gonna win but like, their life is already ruined, lol 🤣. First of all, they gotta deal with a gazillion tax forms and audits from the government, and don't even get me started on the financial advisors who'll just take a chunk off their winnings. And let's be real, $291 million might as well be $300 million after they pay all those fees... 😒

I mean, I guess it's still cool that someone won, but have you seen the fine print? They gotta live on like, $21 million a year? That's just crazy 🤯. And what if they wanna quit their job or start a business or something? They're stuck with this tiny income for the rest of their life. Talk about pressure... 💸

I'm thinking about how crazy it is that you're gonna be a billionaire and still have to shell out so much to the government 😂. I mean, $1 billion is a wild amount of money, but with all those taxes and deductions, it's like they're just taking it all for themselves 🤑. It's actually pretty mind-blowing that the winner can choose between getting the cash upfront or breaking it down into smaller chunks over the years. Either way, I'm rooting for whoever wins because let's be real, $1 billion is a life-changing amount of money 💸. The thing that really gets me is how the taxes can make such a huge difference depending on their income level. I mean, if you're making a lot, you get hit with 37% federal marginal rate? That's like losing half your winnings right off the bat 🤯. Anyway, I'm curious to see who'll be the lucky winner and what they'll do with all that dough 💸💸.
