Radiohead play career-spanning set in first concert since 2018

Radiohead kicked off their highly anticipated European tour in Madrid last night with a career-spanning setlist that drew from nearly all nine of their studio albums. The band, who haven't performed live together since 2018, played to a packed Movistar Arena and delivered a crowd-pleasing yet unpredictable show.

The setlist opened with "Let Down" from OK Computer and featured other iconic tracks like "Paranoid Android", "Karma Police", and "Fake Plastic Trees". However, it wasn't a greatest hits set โ€“ instead, the band drew heavily from 2003's Hail to the Thief, showcasing their diverse discography.

The show was met with excitement and enthusiasm from fans, many of whom had been waiting years for Radiohead to return to the stage. Some were even more than happy to brave early morning queues and wait in line for hours before the concert began.

For 27-year-old Italian fan Francesco Puddu, who traveled over 1,000 miles to attend the show, it was a moment of pure excitement: "I'm incredibly excited... I don't think it's real," he said. His enthusiasm was shared by many others in attendance, including Alessandra Fossati, who has seen Radiohead perform 50 times and had tickets for every single show on this tour.

The band's long history of activism and socially conscious lyrics sometimes raise controversy. However, fans like Lola, 22, are quick to defend their actions: "I didn't like that reaction," she said about the pro-Palestinian heckler who interrupted Jonny Greenwood's solo gig last year. "But at least I think they learned their lesson."

Radiohead have come a long way since their debut album Pablo Honey in 1994, which included their breakthrough hit "Creep". Over the years, they've released critically acclaimed albums like OK Computer and Kid A, as well as solo projects from band members Jonny Greenwood and Phil Selway.

The tour will visit several European cities over the coming weeks before concluding on December 12. With so much anticipation surrounding this reunion, it's clear that Radiohead are still the masterminds of cerebral, atmospheric rock music โ€“ even for a new generation of fans who have grown up with their evolved sound.

so stoked they're back live ๐ŸŽธ๐Ÿคฉ but i'm also kinda surprised how short the setlist was, i mean don't get me wrong i love a good greatest hits set too but radiohead's got so much more to offer than just old favorites ๐Ÿ˜Š. and i do wish they'd play some of their newer stuff like 'burn the witch' from a moon shaped pool, that one would've gotten the crowd going for sure ๐Ÿค”. anyhoo can't wait to see how the rest of the tour goes!

omg u guys r gonna love this! so i just found out about radiohead's europe tour and im lowkey freaking out ๐Ÿคฏ i mean, they havent performed together since 2018 and thier last album was like, what 3 years ago? its going to be a career spanning setlist which means every hit song plus some deep cuts from older albums... i can already imagine the crowd singing along to "karma police" ๐ŸŽค and "fake plastic trees"... has anyone else got tix?

Just got back from Radiohead concert in Madrid ๐Ÿคฉ๐ŸŽธ and I'm still on a high! ๐Ÿ˜ They totally killed it last night, playing all the hits and some deep cuts too ๐Ÿ’ฅ๐ŸŽถ. I was so hyped to see them live again after years of waiting ๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ๐Ÿ’จ. Their setlist was insane, from OK Computer to Hail to the Thief - they really showed off their discography ๐Ÿ“š๐ŸŽต. The energy in the arena was electric โšก๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ, and I'm not surprised fans like Francesco were willing to brave the queues for hours ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ‘. Can't wait to see them in Berlin next ๐Ÿ™๏ธ๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ!

omg they're back ๐Ÿคฉ i've been waiting for this tour for ages and finally they played in madrid last night! it's crazy to think they haven't performed live together since 2018 lol the setlist was insane, i loved how they threw in tracks from hail to the thief - it was like a time capsule or something ๐ŸŽ‰ and of course everyone was hyped, some people even braved those crazy early morning queues for hours just to get tickets ๐Ÿ”ฅ it's amazing how much excitement and enthusiasm the fans still have for them, especially after all these years. i mean yeah their activism can be super polarizing but honestly it's part of what makes them so special - they're not afraid to speak up and stand for what they believe in ๐Ÿ’–

omg what can u say about radiohead? they've been killing it since 1994 ๐Ÿคฏ and thier live show is always so different every time - i loved the setlist tho, so many great tracks from hail to the thief ๐Ÿ‘ also it's dope that francesco traveled over 1k miles just for this concert lol some fans have seen them live like 50 times already ๐Ÿ˜‚ and they're still as energetic as ever ๐ŸŽธ

It's amazing how music can bring people together like this. The energy was palpable last night, and I'm sure it'll only get bigger as the tour goes on ๐ŸŽธ
