Houston is in for a wild ride weather-wise this week. We're starting off with a foggy Monday morning drive, but by Tuesday, the mercury will be soaring into the low 80s, setting the stage for a record-breaking warmth streak that could see temperatures reach as high as 85 degrees or more.
However, this heat wave won't last forever. A cold front is expected to sweep through late Friday, bringing chilly weather and an end to our above-normal temperatures. But before it gets there, we'll have a chance of thunderstorms and cool temperatures on Sunday, when the Chevron Houston Marathon takes place. Temperatures will be in the low-to-mid 40s at the start of the marathon, making for a brisk morning.
Looking ahead to next week, there's still plenty of winter weather left to come. While we don't have any freezes in our forecast for the next 10 days, it's not out of the question that we could see some cold snaps in the coming weeks.
One thing is certain, though: this week's weather will be quite a ride. With sunshine helping to burn off the clouds and foggy mornings giving way to record-breaking warmth, it's anyone's guess how things will shake out. Just remember to grab your sunscreen on Tuesday and hold onto your hat - and umbrella - as we head into the weekend.
The good news is that while there's a chance of thunderstorms this week, severe weather looks unlikely. Rain chances are low for now, but they're expected to climb as the frontal timing comes into focus.
For marathon runners, it's all about preparation. Dress in layers and be ready for anything on Sunday, when temperatures will be cold enough to warrant gloves and hats. The good news is that the rain chance is limited, so you might just see some sunshine at the finish line.
Stay tuned for updates throughout the week, and don't forget to check back with us for more weather tips and photos from around Houston.
