Red Sox have reportedly ‘drawn back’ pursuit of Twins pitcher Joe Ryan

Boston Red Sox have reportedly "drawn back" their pursuit of Twins pitcher Joe Ryan, according to a major league source. The team's interest in Ryan, who was one of their top targets at the July MLB trade deadline, seems to have waned after making him a primary target.

Despite initially seeking to pair Ryan with Garrett Crochet as a legitimate No. 2 option in the rotation, it appears that Boston has reevaluated its strategy. With the team having recently acquired Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo through trades, some argue that the Red Sox could still benefit from a proven No. 2 pitcher.

However, Minnesota Twins president of baseball operations Derek Falvey seems to be indicating that the team is focused on filling holes around their core players Ryan and Lopez, rather than moving more controllable assets like Ryan. The Twins' approach appears to prioritize stability over short-term gains.

The Red Sox may now consider alternative trade targets, such as Kansas City's Cole Ragans, if they remain committed to pairing an elite pitcher with Crochet. Boston's decision to "draw back" on their pursuit of Ryan suggests that the team is reassessing its priorities and exploring other options to bolster its rotation.

just saw this news about the Red Sox and Twins... think it's weird how teams change plans like that 🤔. I mean, Boston had him locked up tight as a No 2 option but now they're kinda chillin' on the idea of Ryan 🙃. Guess you could say they're looking at other options to strengthen their rotation 💪. Like Cole Ragans from KC, who knows if he's gonna step up his game? 🤞 anyway, Red Sox fans might wanna keep an eye out for that trade... or maybe not 😎

omg i just saw a really funny meme about someone trying to cook ramen noodles but keeping setting the timer 🍜🕰️ anyway... so like what's going on with joe ryan and the red sox? they were super interested in him at first, but now it seems like they're not as keen. is it because boston already got some new pitchers through trades? i don't really get why teams do this stuff 🤔

I'm kinda surprised by this development 🤔. I mean, Joe Ryan was a great target for the Sox, especially with him paired with Crochet. But at the same time, you gotta respect the Twins' approach of prioritizing stability over a quick fix ⚾️. They've got some solid young players on their roster and it's good to see them focusing on building around those guys. Meanwhile, the Red Sox seem to be rethinking their strategy... maybe they'll find another gem in Kansas City 😊?

I don't think this is a big deal. Like, come on guys... if the Red Sox are rethinking their strategy, that's what happens when you're in the middle of the season 🤦‍♂️. They gotta make moves to stay competitive, but it doesn't mean they're not committed to winning. Boston's got Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo now, so maybe those guys can fill the gap? And if they want to go after Cole Ragans, that's a decent backup plan 🤔. But let's not overthink this... it's just baseball, folks 😎.

I don't get why Boston would "draw back" on Ryan, they already got Gray and Oviedo... 🤔 I mean, sure, those guys are decent additions but do they really think Crochet can hold his own against any team? 😐 Also, what's up with the Twins' approach? Prioritizing stability over trading away a proven asset like Ryan just seems weird to me. 🤑 Are they trying to be boring or something? 💤

I'm kinda surprised, you know? The Sox were really hyped about Joe Ryan at first... I get why they wanted him, he's a great pitcher, but maybe they just got cold feet or something 🤔. It's also interesting that they're still thinking about pairing him with Crochet, which doesn't seem like the best fit to me. The team has been pretty active in the trade market lately, so I'm guessing they're just trying to see what else is out there...

TBH, I think Boston was overpaying for Ryan in the first place 😂. With Gray and Oviedo coming in, they've got a solid foundation to build from. Plus, Crochet's been looking decent lately so maybe they just didn't need that extra piece 🤔. The Twins' approach is always about building a strong core, I get it 👍. It's not like Ryan's going to break the bank or anything, but if Boston wants to splurge on someone new, there are plenty of other talented pitchers out there 💸

I don't get it why Sox fans are so bent outta shape 'bout this guy Joe Ryan 🤷‍♂️ He's a solid pitcher, but for how long? Boston just made some moves with Gray and Oviedo, those guys can give you some real production now. And I mean, they're not gonna let one player dictate the whole rotation, right? It's all about finding that balance. Plus, the Twins are being smart by focusing on their core, that's what makes 'em a contender in the long run 💪

🤔 seems like boston red sox got cold feet 🥶 about trading for joe ryan, not surprised tho, they already got sonny gray & johan oviedo in trades... might be smart move prioritizing stability over short term gains 💯

I'm kinda surprised by this development 🤔... I mean, Joe Ryan is a great prospect and all, but if the Red Sox are thinking they need a proven No. 2 guy now, it makes sense to go for someone like Cole Ragans instead. He's got potential, you know? And with Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo on board already, I think Boston's rotation is looking pretty solid 🔒. Plus, Derek Falvey seems to be going for stability over a hot streak, which is smart business 💸... doesn't mean the Red Sox won't still make a push, but it's good to see them being realistic about what they need right now 🙏.

🤔 just thinking about it, seems like Boston was really high on getting Joe Ryan to pair him up with Garrett Crochet... now they've got Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo in the mix, maybe that's enough for them? ⚾️ I mean, it's all about stability vs short-term gains, Derek Falvey is trying to keep his core players safe. And Cole Ragans from KC could be a decent backup option if Boston wants to play it safe 🤷‍♂️

I gotta say, this whole situation got me thinking about how teams prioritize stability over making a big splash in trades. It's like they're saying, "Hey, we've got our core guys in place, now let's just fill in the gaps." 🤔 I mean, the Twins' approach might be refreshing, but it also makes you wonder if Boston is just trying to make a statement that they don't want to pay top dollar for a ace pitcher. Meanwhile, Ryan could end up being a great value for Minnesota. The Red Sox are like, "We're gonna wait and see" - it's like they're playing the long game. But what about Kansas City? Do we really think Cole Ragans is the next big thing? 🚨

I'm kinda surprised by this turn of events... I thought for sure Boston was gonna go all out to get Joe Ryan. Now they're like, rethinking things? Maybe they just got a little too aggressive with the trades, you know? Acquiring Gray and Oviedo is dope, but if they can't find that perfect No 2 piece, it's not the end of the world. They've still got some great young arms in their system... Cole Ragans could be a solid target. And let's be real, stability over short-term gains makes total sense for the Twins. But I'm curious to see how this plays out for Boston 🤔

so the red sox were really into joe ryan but now it seems like they're losing interest 🤔... maybe they think having more controllable players like sonny gray will help them achieve their goals? i'm not sure what's better, stability or trying to make a big trade for one player. if they do end up going after cole ragans from kansas city, that would be cool! at least we get to see some new faces in the rotation 💪

I'm kinda surprised about this 🤔. I thought Boston was all set to make a big move at the deadline, but now they're rethinking it? Maybe they just don't think Ryan's worth the haul 🤑... I mean, we've seen teams give up some top prospects for him before, so it's not like he's cheap. And with Gray and Oviedo already on board, do they really need another big pitcher? 🤷‍♂️ It's all about priorities, I guess. The Twins seem to be taking a more patient approach, and that can sometimes pay off in the long run 💪... but it's also hard not to wonder what could've been if Boston had gone for Ryan 🤔.

omg i think boston red sox are making a huge mistake by dropping joe ryan 🤔👀 they need someone like him in the rotation ASAP! 😬
i was thinking same thing, boston should've held on to ryans 4 sure 💯 and now it's gonna be hard to find another decent pitcher... ⏰

I think this is a good sign for the Twins, you feel me? I mean, they've been pretty patient with Ryan all along, so it's about time they start focusing on building around him. Adding more depth to their rotation makes total sense, and bringing in guys like Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo already shows they're serious about making moves. The Red Sox were getting a bit too aggressive, if you ask me... 😊 Boston needs to take a step back and think about what's best for the team, not just try to make a splash at the deadline.

I'm not surprised the Red Sox are backing off on Joe Ryan 🤔. I mean, Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo just kinda showed up outta nowhere, so maybe they're thinking 'why bother searching elsewhere?' 😂 But seriously, if they're looking for a No. 2 starter, Cole Ragans could be worth a shot. He's got some decent stuff, even if he hasn't panned out like the Red Sox hoped for Gray and Oviedo 🤞

I'm still trying to get my head around the fact that no one can agree on a decent No 2 pitcher for the Sox 🤯. They went after Joe Ryan big time, then backed off. Now they're like "oh, let's just grab someone else"... Meanwhile, KC is probably just sitting there thinking "hey, Cole Ragans is still available, why not?" 😏. I mean, don't get me wrong, Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo are a nice addition, but it's hard to see how that changes the fact that they're still missing that solid No 2 🤔. The Twins seem to be playing it smart, though - stability over all else... we'll see how that plays out 🔮.
