Relay review – Riz Ahmed turns potential whistleblowers in smart and twisty surveillance thriller

"Relay" is a smart and twisty surveillance thriller that puts Riz Ahmed at the center of its cat-and-mouse game, reminding viewers of his iconic performance in 2019's "Sound of Metal". In this latest outing, Ahmed plays Amir, a lonely Muslim fixer who helps corporate employees with evidence to spill the beans on their corrupt employers. For a hefty fee, Amir will broker the whistleblowers' return without getting them into trouble – but he keeps a copy for himself.

Amir's service uses an old-school "relay" system, connecting deaf and speech-impaired people via telephone operators who read aloud typed prompts with no record of what's said. It's a secure way to send messages, perfect for Amir's line of work. But when Sarah (Lily James), a woman desperate to expose her employer after stealing incriminating documents, reaches out to him for help, Amir breaks his own rules by getting emotionally involved.

As they navigate the thrilling game of cat and mouse with sinister surveillance operative Mark (Sam Worthington), Mackenzie's direction ratchets up the tension. The movie features some coolly choreographed city scenes, and a particularly Hitchcockian set piece at a classical music concert that will leave you on the edge of your seat.

The script, penned by Justin Piasecki, is intelligent and engaging, with plenty of twists to keep viewers guessing until the very end. Ahmed shines as Amir, bringing depth and nuance to his character's complex moral landscape. With its slick direction and clever plot, "Relay" is a gripping thriller that will appeal to fans of espionage movies like "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy".

omg I'm so impressed that Riz Ahmed can still bring the drama without sounding like he's just whining 😒. seriously though, this movie sounds kinda interesting... I mean, who doesn't love a good cat-and-mouse game? 🕵️‍♂️ but what really drew me in was the idea of Amir's "relay" system - it's like, old-school cool 😎. and Lily James as Sarah? she's always so pretty, even when she's playing damsels in distress 💁‍♀️. I'm low-key excited to watch this one, mainly because Sam Worthington is just so... Worthington 🤣

I'm so down for this one 🤩! I love how Riz Ahmed brings Amir to life - he's got such depth to his character. And the way the director, Mackenzie, builds tension is just masterful 😱. The use of the "relay" system is genius, it adds this whole other layer to the story that keeps you guessing. Plus, Sam Worthington as the sinister operative? Check! I'm all about a good spy thriller and this one sounds like it's got it all 💥. I've gotta watch it ASAP! 👍

I gotta say, the way they portray Amir's service as this super secure way to send messages without record is kinda misleading 🤔. I mean, come on, it's 2025 and we know how outdated that old-school relay system is 😂. They're basically saying a deaf person can just type away without anyone knowing what they said? Get real! It's like they want us to forget about all the accessibility issues in tech 🙄.

And another thing, Riz Ahmed's character getting emotionally involved with Sarah is so cliché 🚫. It's like they're trying too hard to make him relatable and human. Newsflash: we already know he can act, so no need to go there 😎. Overall though, the movie seems pretty well-directed and all that jazz 💁‍♀️. Just don't expect me to swoon over Amir's "complex moral landscape" 🤪.

omg u guys i just watched relay and i'm still trying to pick my brain out lol 🤯 riz ahmed is so talented he's like the superhero of actors, but this time he plays a fixer who's basically a whistleblower whisperer 😂. anyway, the movie keeps you on the edge of ur seat with all these twists and turns it's like trying to solve a super tricky puzzle 🧩. i'm not gonna lie tho, the old-school relay system thingy was kinda trippy 📞. but sam worthington as the bad guy? more like sam worthington as the 'oh no i'm so evil' 😳. and that concert scene? my. god. 💥

seen this trailer for relay and it looks so intense 🤯 sam worthington as the bad guy gives me the chills 😱 anyone else think the main character's service sounds super sketchy 🤔 what if they're not just whistleblowers but actual moles 🤑 lily james is always great to watch, hope she gets more screen time 👀

🤯 I was on the edge of my seat the whole time watching this one! Riz Ahmed absolutely crushed it as Amir, his character's moral complexity is so relatable. The twisty plot had me guessing until the very end 🤔. I loved how the film highlighted the importance of whistleblowers and the risks they take to expose corporate corruption 👊. And that Hitchcockian concert scene? 😱 Mind blown! The direction was slick, the cinematography was top-notch, and the script kept me engaged from start to finish 💥. Can't wait to discuss more with you guys about what you thought of this one 🤗

So they're saying Relay is like a cool spy movie with Riz Ahmed in it? I gotta disagree 🤔. The concept sounds kinda meh, like something you'd find in an old James Bond film. And what's up with the relay system being so... ancient? Like, how did that even become a thing? 😂 And don't even get me started on Sam Worthington's character, Mark - what a generic villain 🙄.

But for real though, I do love Riz Ahmed's acting and he does bring some depth to his character. Maybe the movie is just trying to say something about the struggles of being a whistleblower or whatever? It's not like it's gonna change the world or anything, but hey, if you're into that sorta thing, I guess it's worth a watch 🎥.

I'm gonna give this one 7/10... 🤔 the movie looks pretty intense with all the twists and turns, but at times it felt a bit predictable. I mean, the whole "lonely fixer" thing has been done before, so didn't really see anything new here 😐. Riz Ahmed is still a talented actor, though - he brought a lot of depth to Amir's character... 👍 but for me, the movie's biggest strength was its suspenseful scenes - that concert set piece was SO cool! 🎵 Still, I'm not sure if it's gonna be one of those movies where you're talking about it for weeks after watching or what 🤷‍♂️.

just watched relay 🤔 it's so tense, sam worthington as the bad guy is super creepy 😳 riz ahmed's character is so interesting, i love how he's got these strict rules but can't help himself when sarah comes along 👀 the way they move around the city is insane 🚨 i'm not sure about the "relay" system at first, but it makes sense in hindsight 🤯 the music concert scene gave me goosebumps 😲 and lily james as sarah is great too 👍

I just finished watching this new movie "Relay" 🎥 and I'm still trying to process the ending lol. So Riz Ahmed's character Amir seems like a pretty cool guy at first, but then we find out he's been playing both sides for years? 🤯 It's like, you can't trust him entirely, which is kinda what makes it so thrilling. The way the director uses the "relay" system to send messages between characters was actually really clever, it added this whole new level of tension to the story 😅. And can we talk about Riz Ahmed's performance? He's amazing as always 💯, bringing so much depth to Amir's character. I love how the script keeps you guessing until the very end, it's like a puzzle 🧩. Overall, I'd say "Relay" is a great spy thriller that'll keep you on the edge of your seat 😬.

I just watched Relay and I gotta say, Riz Ahmed is giving me all the feels again 🤯👍 His performance as Amir is so underrated! The twisty plot keeps you on the edge of your seat, but what really drew me in was the moral complexity of his character. I love how he's got this "relay" system going on, it's like a clever way to stay one step ahead of the game 📞🕵️‍♂️ And that Hitchcockian concert scene? Mind blown! 😱 The direction is top-notch and the script is so intelligent and engaging. I'm loving how it keeps you guessing until the very end 🔮.

This "Relay" show is soooo good 🤯! I mean, Riz Ahmed is just amazing as Amir, he brings so much depth to the character, you can feel his pain and struggle. And that script, Justin Piasecki did a great job with it, keeps you guessing till the end 😬. The way the director, Mackenzie, weaves together the thriller and suspense elements is just masterful 🎥. I love how they use the "relay" system as a clever plot device, it's like something out of a spy movie 🕵️‍♂️. And that classical music concert scene? Mind blown 💥!

I'm thoroughly entertained by the cat-and-mouse game in Relay, with Riz Ahmed delivering a stellar performance as Amir, the enigmatic fixer 😏. The way the script expertly weaves together intrigue and suspense is reminiscent of classic spy thrillers, while the clever use of the "relay" system adds a unique twist to the narrative 📞. The tension builds steadily throughout, culminating in some truly nail-biting set pieces – that concert scene is pure Hitchcock magic 🎵.

🕵️‍♂️ I just finished watching Relay and I gotta say, Riz Ahmed totally owns the screen as Amir 🤩. His character's moral complexity is so interesting to watch - he's not a traditional hero or villain, he's more of a gray area guy who does what he thinks is right for himself and his clients 🤑. The plot twists keep you on the edge of your seat, it's like a game of chess where one wrong move can be fatal 😬. And Sam Worthington's character is super creepy, perfect villain material 👊. But what really stands out is how the film explores the themes of privilege and power - Amir's service is this underground network that's not only secure but also morally ambiguous 🤯. It's like, what does it mean to be a hero when your job involves helping people take down corrupt corporations? 💸

OMG 🤯 I just finished watching Relay and I'm SHOOK 😱! The twisty plot had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish 💥. Riz Ahmed is, like, perfection as Amir - he brings so much depth to this complex character 🤖. And that set piece at the classical music concert? Mind blown 🎵👏 Mackenzie's direction really ratchets up the tension and keeps you guessing until the very end 🕰️. The only thing I'm not totally sold on is how predictable it gets towards the end... but overall, it's a total page-turner 📚!

I'm low-key obsessed with the way the showreel for "Relay" was formatted 📹. Like, it's so sleek and minimalistic, it makes me wanna reformat my entire computer desktop 😂. And I love how they use different colors to highlight important info - it's like a mini tutorial on design best practices 💡. But what really got me is how the cinematography was used to build tension - those city scenes are so well-choreographed, it's like a real-life action movie 🎥. And can we talk about Riz Ahmed's performance? He's just so nuanced and complex as Amir, I love it 😍. Anyway, back to formats... has anyone seen the trailer for "Relay" again? Let me know if they used any font styles that you liked/disliked 🤔

I'm totally obsessed with this new show Relay 😍! Riz Ahmed is absolute perfection as Amir, he brings so much depth to the character it's hard not to feel for him. The plot is super twisty and keeps you guessing till the very end, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time 🎥. The way they've woven in the relay system as a metaphor for communication between people who are struggling to be heard is really clever too 🤯. Mackenzie's direction is top-notch and the cinematography is stunning, the city scenes look so real you'll feel like you're right there with Amir and Sarah 👀. Overall I'd say Relay is a must-watch for fans of spy thrillers and espionage movies, it's got everything: action, suspense, and heart ❤️.

OMG 🤩 I'm literally SHAKING for how good this movie is!!! Riz Ahmed is perfection as Amir, I mean, he's like the ultimate whistleblower fixer 🤑 and his chemistry with Lily James is soooo intense 💘. And that twisty plot? Mind blown 🤯 I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, guessing until the very end. The action scenes were insane, especially that concert scene 😲🎵. I'm already planning to rewatch it for the 5th time, can someone please make a "Relay" fanfic with Amir and Sarah? 📝💕

I just binged this show Relays & I'm still trying to wrap my head around it 🤯. The way the director Mackenzie weaves together the cat and mouse game between Amir (Riz Ahmed) and Mark (Sam Worthington) is like a puzzle that keeps you on the edge of your seat 😬. And Riz's performance? Iconic, just like his 2019 Sound of Metal role 👏. I love how the show explores themes of power dynamics and the blurred lines between right and wrong 💡. The script is clever and intelligent, and I was totally surprised by some of the twists 🤯. If you're a fan of espionage movies or just looking for a gripping thriller, Relays is definitely worth checking out 👍
