Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, former Trump loyalist, says she is resigning from Congress

Marjorie Taylor Greene, the Republican Representative from Georgia who was once a fervent supporter of former President Donald Trump, announced her resignation from Congress on Friday. In a lengthy video recording posted online, Greene stated that she would step down as a member of Congress by January 5, 2026.

Greene's decision to leave office comes after a public fallout with Trump in recent months, during which the congressman criticized Trump's stance on files related to Jeffrey Epstein, foreign policy, and healthcare. Trump responded by branding her a "traitor" and "wacky," saying he would endorse a challenger against her in her upcoming reelection bid next year.

Despite being one of the most vocal and visible supporters of Trump's "Make America Great Again" movement, Greene's break with him puts her on the same track as many other moderate establishment Republicans who have crossed Trump. In her video, Greene emphasized that she remains committed to her principles and values, stating that her self-worth is not defined by a man, but rather by God.

Greene's resignation will create an opening in her district, which Republican Governor Brian Kemp must fill through a special election within 10 days of Greene's resignation. This election could take place before the party primaries for the next two-year term.

Throughout her time in Congress, Greene has been known for her unapologetic views and adherence to conspiracy theories. She has drawn criticism and ridicule from both parties on several occasions, including her comparison of wearing safety masks during the pandemic to the horrors of the Holocaust and her speculation about a California wildfire being caused by "lasers or blue beams of light" controlled by a left-wing cabal.

Greene's decision to leave office marks a notable crack in Trump's grip over conservatives. Her departure also raises questions about what she plans to do next, given that she has largely distanced herself from QAnon and other conspiracy theories.

Despite her tumultuous relationship with Trump, Greene was initially welcomed by the former president as a surrogate for his views and brash style in Washington. However, her growing discontent with the GOP leadership on Capitol Hill eventually led her to make the decision to leave office.

πŸ€” I'm kinda surprised Marjorie Taylor Greene decided to step down from Congress πŸ™. She's had a wild ride as a Trump supporter, but I guess some things just got too much for her πŸ’β€β™€οΈ. Her video on leaving office was pretty telling - she still believes in herself and her values, even if she isn't getting that from the people she thought would support her πŸ™…β€β™€οΈ. It's like, she went into politics with a very specific agenda, but it seems that Trump wasn't the best fit for her anymore πŸ”’. Now we'll see what she does next - maybe it's time for her to find a new cause πŸ€”?

πŸ€” I'm kinda surprised that MTG (as some people call her) is done with the whole Trump thing... it's like she just flipped on herself πŸ”„. I mean, I get why she'd want to distance herself from his toxic vibes, but still, it's weird how quickly she went from being a super fan to a critic πŸ‘Ž. Now that she's outta there, who knows what's next for her? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ Maybe she'll find a new cause or just chill and focus on her own stuff... only time will tell πŸ’

idk why ppl think she's doin a good deed by leavin' πŸ€” congrats 2 trump 4 losin another rep πŸ’ͺ at least she wont be spreadin that conspiracy theory trash anymore πŸ˜’

I'm kinda surprised that Marjorie Taylor Greene is leaving Congres πŸ€”. I mean, she's been there for like 2 years now and it seems like a pretty big deal to me... what's next for her tho? πŸ˜‚ She was always known for being super outspoken and stuff, but at the same time, a lot of ppl were like "hold up, that's not okay" πŸ™…β€β™‚οΈ. I think this is actually kinda good news tho, cuz it shows that even people who hold different views can have a change of heart, you know? πŸ’–

yeah I'm kinda surprised she's leavin' congress already πŸ€”...I mean, she was always a bit of an outlier among republicans anyway. still gotta wonder what's next for her though - is she really gonna distance herself from trump or is this just another move to stay relevant? idk but it's good to see some tension within the party maybe it'll bring about some changes for the better 🀞

I gotta say, this is some wild stuff. Marjorie Taylor Greene just up and quits Congress? Like, what's next? The whole Trump crew gonna follow suit? 🀯 I'm kinda surprised she lasted as long as she did, considering all the crazy stuff she's said in the past. But hey, you can't say we didn't see this coming. Trump's been trying to shake her off for months already, calling her a "traitor" and whatnot. Guess that just pushed her over the edge. πŸ™…β€β™€οΈ Now it's gonna be interesting to see who ends up running in that special election to fill her seat. The whole GOP is already freaking out about this, so I'm sure it'll get messy. 😬

just thinkin... marjorie taylor greene's outta congress already, it's like she never really had it goin' in the first place πŸ€”πŸ‘€ what was the point of all that drama and conspiracy theories? now trump's gonna be lookin at some new blood for his crew, will he stick to his guns or let someone else take the reins? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ guess it's true what they say about the circle of life in politics... one day you're all in for "the big guy" and the next, you're like "peace out, I'm good" πŸ™ƒ . Greene's been a wild card from day one, but I gotta give her props for finally having enough of Trump's drama πŸ’β€β™€οΈ. I mean, who needs that kind of stress in their life? πŸ˜‚ and now we get to see if she'll actually follow through on her promise to step away from QAnon πŸ€”. It'll be interesting to see what she does next... maybe a career change or something? πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ

omg what just happened?? so marjorie taylor greene is leaving congress?? i dont get it, she was like super pro trump and now shes out ?? i mean, trump called her a traitor and stuff but i guess that got old for her or something? i feel bad for her cuz she's gonna be all alone with no one to blame lol. btw has anyone seen those laser beams causing wildfires videos on tiktok??? 🀣πŸ”₯

I'm not surprised at all that Marjorie Taylor Greene decided to step down from Congress 🀯. It's been a wild ride watching her go from Trump superfan to someone who couldn't get along with him anymore πŸ˜‚. Now, I think she needs to take some time to figure out what she really wants to do next. Maybe use this opportunity to rethink some of those conspiracy theories and extreme views πŸ€”. And can we just say that's a huge relief for all the people who had to deal with her antics in Congress 😌?

It's amazing how a single public disagreement can lead to someone reevaluating their path. Greene's journey from being a fervent Trump supporter to distancing herself from conspiracy theories is a reminder that even the most entrenched individuals can undergo a shift in perspective.

The fact that she's taking responsibility for her own self-worth and separating it from others, as evident in her statement about God, shows growth and maturity. It's almost like a lesson learned - sometimes you gotta take a leap of faith to find yourself.

πŸ€” so now marjorie taylor greene is just gonna up and quit like that... no big deal or something. i mean, it's not like she was really committed to trump in the first place or anything. and btw, who exactly did she think she was fooling by saying god defined her self-worth? that's just a weak attempt to save face after getting roasted by trump himself. and let's be real, this whole thing is just gonna lead to more republican infighting and drama... πŸ™„
