Report: Eagles to interview Texans QBs coach for offensive coordinator

Eagles to Interview Texans QBs Coach Jerrod Johnson for Offensive Coordinator Role

The Philadelphia Eagles are taking a familiar face into the mix in their search for an offensive coordinator. According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, the team will be speaking with Jerrod Johnson, the quarterbacks coach of the Houston Texans, for what could be his second interview for the position.

Johnson, 37, has already built a connection with Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni, having worked alongside him on Indy's offensive staff in 2020. The two share experience coaching under the legendary Bill Walsh, and Johnson also spent time as an assistant quarterbacks coach with the Minnesota Vikings before joining the Texans last season.

While Sirianni may see potential in Johnson to fill the OC role, it's worth noting that Johnson has limited NFL playing experience and was passed over for both the Eagles' 2024 and 2025 OC positions. The Texans, under head coach DeMeco Ryans, have faced significant challenges on offense, ranking 22nd and 18th in total offense during those seasons.

The search for an OC to complement Sirianni's play-calling continues, with Johnson poised to join a shortlist of candidates vying for the position. The Eagles' front office will undoubtedly be looking for someone who can improve their stagnant offense and help them return to prominence on the gridiron.

I'm tellin' ya ๐Ÿค”, the Eagles need someone with some real game-changer skills up there in Philly. I mean, Jerrod Johnson might be a great coach, but he's been passed over twice already? That's like gettin' two strikes on a swing and still thinkin' you're gonna hit it outta the park ๐Ÿ’ฅ! Sirianni needs someone who's gonna shake things up, ya know? The Texans have had some problems with their offense under Ryans, so I'm not sure what that says about Johnson's abilities ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ. But hey, at least he's familiar with Sirianni from Indy days, which is a good start ๐Ÿ˜Š. Maybe it'll be the magic combo they need to get this offense goin' ๐Ÿ”ฎ!

๐ŸŒž So I think this is a good sign! Jerrod Johnson has some great experience under Bill Walsh, which is like having a masterclass on OC duties ๐Ÿ“š. Plus, he already knows Nick Sirianni from their time in Indy, so that's a major plus ๐Ÿ’ฌ. Sure, the Texans' offense hasn't been stellar lately, but maybe that just means Jerrod will bring some fresh ideas to Philly? And hey, the Eagles have struggled on offense too, so this could be just what they need โ€“ someone who can shake things up and get them flying high again! ๐Ÿฆ…๐Ÿ’จ

I think it's so cool that the Eagles are considering Jerrod Johnson for OC role ๐Ÿ˜Ž! I mean, he's already got some great connections with Sirianni and they share some awesome coaching experiences. But at the same time, I'm a bit curious about why they're going back to him after he was passed over last season ๐Ÿค”. I guess it just shows how much they trust his skills and think he can bring something special to their offense ๐Ÿ’ช! Maybe this is the push he needs to take it to the next level? ๐Ÿš€

im not surprised the eagles are talking to jerrod johnson he's got some legit connections with nicksirianni and has been working under coaches with a lot of experience they should def consider him over others tho, hes had limited playing time in the nfl so maybe the eagles will try to develop him

Just got word from a friend of a friend that Sirianni's been eyeing this guy, Jerrod Johnson, since he was a goner ๐Ÿคซ. I'm not sure if it's gonna work out, but Johnson's definitely got some connections with the coaching staff. He's played it cool during his interviews so far, which is good, 'cause you never know what'll happen next in this process ๐Ÿ’ญ. The Eagles need someone who can shake things up on offense, and maybe Johnson's just the guy to bring that spark ๐Ÿ”ฅ. Just hope he can overcome that limited playing experience, or else it'll be tough for him to prove himself ๐Ÿค”.

I'm kinda surprised they're going back to talkin' to Jerrod Johnson again ๐Ÿค”, I mean, he's been passin' over for those OC gigs already ๐Ÿšซ, but at the same time, it's nice to see a familiar face in the mix ๐Ÿ‘. Nick Sirianni and Jerrod have that coaching chemistry thing goin' on from their Indy days, so that's a plus ๐Ÿ’ก. Still, gotta wonder if he's ready for this role yet ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ, I mean, the Texans' offense has been strugglin' under DeMeco Ryans... hope they can get it turnt up ๐Ÿ”ฅ before bringin' him in ๐Ÿ‘Š

๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’ก I'm loving the move by the Eagles! Did you know that under Coach Sirianni, they've averaged 27.5 points per game? ๐Ÿ“Š But their total offense has been stuck in neutral... 15.2 yards gained per play last season ๐Ÿƒโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Jerrod Johnson's experience working with legends like Bill Walsh and coaching QBs could be the key to shaking things up! ๐Ÿ’ฅ He's got a solid track record of improving QB development, but how will he translate that to his OC role? ๐Ÿค” The stats are telling us that teams with strong OCs have a 10% increase in wins ๐Ÿ“ˆ. Time to shake off those stagnant numbers and get back to winning ways! ๐Ÿ’ช

I don't get why they're interviewing him again ๐Ÿค”. Didn't he already try out for OC role last year? ๐Ÿ™„ I mean, I love his coaching experience and all, but the Texans had some major problems on offense under Ryans... it's like, can't they just find someone who's actually produced good results elsewhere? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ And what's with Sirianni having another chat with him? Didn't he learn anything from their last convo in 2020? ๐Ÿ˜’

๐Ÿค” the eagles are really reaching out to jerrod johnson, that's weird considering he didn't get the job last time around... I feel like they're trying to recreate what they did in 2020 under nick sirianni but this time with a different system and i wonder if it'll work ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

im thinking jerrod johnson could be a good fit for eagles OC role, he got that connection with sirianni from their walsh days ๐Ÿค๐Ÿˆ also, johnson's experience with texans is pretty interesting considering they were struggling with offense last season ๐Ÿ‘€ might give sirianni something new to work with ๐Ÿ˜Š meanwhile, eagles fans are still waiting for a real OC change, been the same old song and dance for too long ๐ŸŽถ

I'm so stoked to see the Eagles giving Jerrod Johnson a shot! He's got that Walsh connection which is a major bonus, and Sirianni knows him from Indy too, so it feels like a home run recruitment move ๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ‘

Another overhyped coach trying to make a splash in Philly ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ. Jerrod Johnson's limited playing experience is already raising red flags, and I'm pretty sure he'll struggle to run Sirianni's play-calling system. The Texans' offense has been tanking since he joined, so it's not like he's got some magical solutions to offer ๐Ÿ™„. And what makes the Eagles think they can't find someone better? They're basically throwing their money at this and hoping for a miracle ๐Ÿ’ธ. I'm not buying it...

I'm not sure why they're talking to Jerrod Johnson again... I mean, he hasn't exactly been lighting it up as a coach ๐Ÿค”. The Texans' offense has been struggling for years, so maybe that's what they're looking for? A fresh perspective or something ๐Ÿ˜…. Still, it's always good to have someone with experience working under Bill Walsh on your side... those guys know how to make an offense tick! ๐Ÿ’ก

im not sure about this move by the eagles, they need someone with more experience, i mean jerrod johnson is a great coach but hasnt played in the nfl so its hard to imagine him calling plays during games ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ’ก and yeah idk how long itll take for nick sirianni to find the right guy, the offense was pretty meh last season

I donโ€™t usually comment but... I think itโ€™s weird theyโ€™re reaching out to Jerrod Johnson again ๐Ÿค”. I mean, he's got some great experience under Bill Walsh and all, but he hasnโ€™t exactly lit up the NFL with his play-calling skills so far ๐Ÿ˜. The Texans had a pretty rough season last year, ranking 22nd in total offense... thatโ€™s gotta be tough for anyone to work magic with ๐Ÿ’”. I get it, they wanna improve their offense, but is Johnson really the guy? Have they considered someone whoโ€™s actually gotten some playoff experience or won a championship? ๐Ÿ† Just food for thought, I guess! ๐Ÿ‘€
