Ride out the rest of the snowy season in style at these Michigan events - Detroit Metro Times

Winter in Metro Detroit is a time for fun and excitement, even if the temperatures are frigid. From ice skating rinks to chili cook-offs, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

For those who love the ice, Campus Martius Park has got you covered. The "No. 1 Best Ice Skating Rink" in the country offers a picturesque backdrop for gliding across the ice. After a few laps, warm up with some hot chocolate in Chalet 313, a glass-covered heated lounge with stunning views of the park.

But ice skating is just one of many winter activities on offer. The Detroit Auto Show is back at Huntington Place, showcasing the latest and greatest in automotive innovation. Expect immersive exhibits, hands-on experiences, and interactive displays that go beyond the showroom floor.

For a more festive atmosphere, head to Robert C. Valade Park for the Fire & Ice Festival: Winter at Valade. This medieval-themed festival features bonfires, turkey legs, ice carving, vendors, live performances, and more. Don't miss the lighting of the Fire and Ice Tower at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

In Frankenmuth, Zehnder's Snowfest is in full swing, with ice sculptures, live entertainment, a petting farm, fireworks, children's activities, and more. This beloved event is a must-visit for anyone looking to get into the winter spirit.

Other highlights include the Plymouth Ice Festival, which dazzles downtown with ice sculptures, a zip line, shopping, and more; the Southfield Winter Festival, offering family-friendly fun indoors and outdoors; Shiver on the River, a free celebration of the Detroit River with ice carvings, live performances, and winter birding; and Lake Orion Ice Fest, featuring ice sculptures, live carving demonstrations, a Selfie Station, and more.

But for those who dare to be different, there's the Polar Plunge. Brave metro Detroiters take a dip into frigid waters to raise funds for Special Olympics Michigan. Whether you're a thrill-seeker or just looking to support a great cause, this event is not to be missed.

February 14th sees two events that are sure to get your heart racing: Cupid's Undie Run and Waterford Fireworks & Flannels Night Out. The former raises awareness of neurofibromatosis, while the latter features an illuminated walking path with horse-drawn wagon rides, pony rides, food trucks, beer tent, and more.

Finally, no winter in Metro Detroit would be complete without a visit to the 73rd Annual Autorama, where gearheads show off their custom rides in competition for the coveted Ridler Award. And if you're in Grand Rapids, don't miss World of Winter, the largest winter festival in America, featuring art installations, light shows, and more.

So why let winter get you down? Get out there and enjoy all that Metro Detroit has to offer.

Ugh, ppl who think -20° is cold r crazy lol 😂. Like, who needs warmth when u can have ice skating, chili cook-offs & fire pits 🍲❄️?! Metro Detroit's got some sick winter vibes goin on this yr. Campus Martius Park's ice rink is straight fire (no pun intended) 🔥 and Zehnder's Snowfest in Frankenmuth is a whole other level of festy 🎉. And let's not forget the Polar Plunge - who's brave enough to take a dip in that cold? 🤣🏊‍♀️

omg u know what's even better than a dip in freezing water 🤣... its people like me who r brave enough 2 do it!! The Polar Plunge looks like so much fun, and supporting Special Olympics Michigan is defo the real MVP 🙌 i mean, ice skating & chili cook-offs sound like an amazing combo tho, gotta check out Campus Martius Park ASAP 😍

I'm so over this freezing weather already 🥶 but I love how the city is making the most of it! Campus Martius Park's ice skating rink looks super fun, and Chalet 313 sounds like a great spot to warm up. The Detroit Auto Show is also on my list - I've always been fascinated by cars!

I think it's really cool that there are so many events for all sorts of interests. Like, who wouldn't want to watch horse-drawn wagon rides or try out ice carving? And the Polar Plunge sounds like a great way to support a good cause... or just be a total thrill-seeker 🤣.

But honestly, what's not to love about winter in Metro Detroit? It's all about having fun and making memories with friends and family. Bring on the snowflakes! ❄️

I'm so glad they're promoting family-friendly activities 🎉! Ice skating is already a great way to spend quality time with the kids, but it's awesome that they're offering more options like hot chocolate and a glass-covered heated lounge 😊. I also love that there are festivals with activities for all ages, from medieval-themed events to charity runs... it's amazing how much fun you can have in the winter 🎄! But as a parent, I do wish they'd included some info on stroller-friendly paths and accessible restrooms - we want everyone to be able to enjoy these events with their little ones 👶.

winter is literally the best time to be alive in metro detroit 🎄🌨️ can't complain about ice skating, chili cook-offs, or fire festivals... but i do think we need more events for the creative types... like a community art project or something 🤔 what if we had an outdoor mural festival where ppl can collaborate on large scale murals? that would be lit 💡

Man 73rd Autorama is gonna be lit but remember when the Autorama used to be held at Belle Isle? It was so much fun back then... I miss those old days 🙅‍♂️. And have you seen their ice sculptures this year? Reminds me of the Winter Festival in Frankenmuth where we'd make s'mores and roast marshmallows over a bonfire 🔥. But, I guess progress is a good thing, right?
