River Falls rolls past St. John’s into Division III football quarterfinals

River Falls Soars Past St. John's in Division III Football Showdown, Securing National Quarterfinal Spot

In a dominating performance, the University of Wisconsin-River Falls football team advanced to the national quarterfinals on Saturday, achieving something that hasn't been seen since before World War II - winning for the first time against St. John's since 1937.

Kaleb Blaha led the charge, throwing for 245 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 97 additional yards as the Falcons dominated the second half to take down the Johnnies 42-14 in a Division III matchup. The win marks the third-ranked Falcons' first national quarterfinal appearance in school history.

River Falls head coach Matt Walker attributed his team's success to Blaha, who continues to defy expectations after a hamstring injury limited him to just three games last season. "He's really tough because he's got that quick burst," St. John's coach Gary Fasching said of Blaha, who has now thrown for 3,753 yards and 31 touchdowns this season.

Blaha's performance was also buoyed by a crucial interception return by Nick Wasko, which set up the Falcons' lead with 28-7 margin. The team's physical offense line controlled the trenches, allowing them to run 51 times for 188 yards, while St. John's struggled on just nine carries for 22 yards.

The Falcons will now face Wheaton in their national quarterfinal matchup on December 13 at Ramer Field. River Falls has won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title for the first time since 1985 this season and stands poised to make a deep run in the tournament.

"I didn't have to come back, but I wanted to come back, and I knew we could really make this happen," Blaha said of his team's historic win. "Living in it right now, it's great." With Walker's guidance, River Falls has achieved something that was thought to be impossible just a season ago, earning the program its first national quarterfinal appearance in history.

Man... this Kaleb Blaha kid is like the ultimate comeback story 🤯! He was hurt last season and you'd think he'd be done for, but he's still racking up the stats and leading his team to a historic win 💪. It just goes to show that with determination and hard work, anything is possible... even when everyone thought you were done 😂. I mean, the guy was down from three games last season, but now he's throwing for 3k yards and 30+ TDs! That's what I call resilience 💯. And it's not just Blaha, the whole team played together like a well-oiled machine... you gotta love that kinda sportsmanship 🤝. The Falcons are on fire right now and I'm excited to see where this national quarterfinal matchup takes them 🔥.

just think about how far that Kaleb Blaha has come 😲! from getting injured last season to now leading his team to a historic win like this 🙌. it's not every day you see someone overcome obstacles and still manage to put up incredible numbers on the field 💪. and what's even crazier is that he's still got so much more to give 🤯! i mean, 3,753 yards and 31 touchdowns already? that's some serious stuff 📊. and now they get to face Wheaton in the national quarterfinals... this could be epic 💥. can't wait to see what the rest of the season has in store for the Falcons 🎉!

Now they get to face Wheaton in the national quarterfinals and I'm hyped 🎉 can't wait to see what happens next!

Man, can you believe River Falls took down St John's like that? 🤯 It's been 88 years since they won against them and now they're heading to the national quarters! Kaleb Blaha is straight fire 🔥 with all those yards and touchdowns. I'm loving the way he's carried his team this season, especially after dealing with that hamstring injury last year. The offense line was on point too, totally controlling the trenches. This win marks a huge turning point for the program and now they're poised to make some serious noise in the tournament 🏆👀

🤔 I'm still trying to wrap my head around this... the Falcons are good? Like, really good? 😮 I mean, they dominated St. John's and now they're going to the quarterfinals? That's crazy! 🤯 But at the same time, I'm like "wait a minute, didn't we just say that River Falls has been struggling for years?" And then Blaha comes along and throws for 245 yards and three touchdowns? Like, how did he do that? 😂 It's almost like... he's invincible or something! 💪 But no, I'm not buying it. The season is too short to say they're good for real. 🤷‍♂️ They'll probably lose the quarterfinals and everyone will be all "oh well". 😐

This is crazy! I mean, can you believe the Falcons actually beat St John's? That school's been killing them for like, forever 😂. And Kaleb Blaha, man... he's on fire this season! 3,753 yards and 31 touchdowns already? He's basically a superhero on the field 💪. I remember watching some of these old Division III games in the early 2000s, but never thought I'd see my Wisconsin River Falls team making it to the national quarterfinals 🎉. This is awesome for the school and the conference! Now let's see if they can take down Wheaton on Dec 13... this should be good 🤔.

man i'm not buying this whole national quarterfinal thing... 42-14 is crazy high score and it feels like they basically steamrolled st john's. what about the other teams that got destroyed in the regular season? did they really earn a spot against wheaton or are they just gonna get blown out too?

omg what a game 🤯 i'm hyped for river falls, but gotta say their defense is looking pretty sketchy... all those carries by st john's and they're getting killed 😂 anyway, kaleb blaha is on FIRE 🔥 3,753 yards and 31 touchdowns? that's insane! but what's up with the injury history of this dude? hamstrings are no joke 💔 still, i'm loving the way river falls is playing, and their offense line is looking like a well-oiled machine 🤩 hopefully they can keep it up against wheaton. coach walker must be doing something right 💯

oh my gosh 🤩 i'm like totally stoked for the river falls team!!! they're on fire 🔥 and kaleb blaha is a total rockstar 🤟🏻! it's so inspiring to see them overcome that hamstring injury and still dominate on the field 💪. i love how coach walker kept faith with him and it really paid off 🙌. and let's not forget nick wasko's game-changing interception return 🎉! what an incredible season for river falls and i'm literally so hyped to see them take on wheaton in the national quarterfinals 🏈👊. go falcons! 💛

Wow 😮 this is insane! I mean River Falls going up against St John's and still managing to come out on top 42-14? That's dominance 🔥. And Kaleb Blaha throwing for 245 yards and 3 touchdowns? 🤯 he's like a magician out there. I've been following their season and it's crazy how they've come from nowhere to win the Wisconsin conference title 🏆. Now, facing Wheaton in the national quarterfinals... bring it on 💪!

OMG, Kaleb Blaha is like, totally on fire 🔥 this season! I mean, 3,753 yards and 31 touchdowns? That's insane! And to think he was limited to just three games last year due to an injury 🤦‍♂️... Talk about defying expectations! Matt Walker must be one proud coach right now 😊. The fact that they won by a whopping 28-7 margin is just icing on the cake 🎉. I'm literally rooting for River Falls to take down Wheaton in their national quarterfinal matchup on Dec 13 🤞.
