SEPTA will stop posting bus, trolley delays on social media starting next week

SEPTA Ditches Social Media for Bus and Trolley Delays Starting Next Week

As part of a bid to improve the efficiency of its services, Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is abandoning its practice of posting bus and trolley delays on social media. Beginning Monday, riders will no longer receive updates about these disruptions on Twitter or other platforms.

Instead, SEPTA plans to post this information on its website, mobile app, and third-party services like Google Maps and Apple Maps. According to officials, the new approach promises to provide more accurate and timely data for passengers looking for real-time information on potential delays or cancellations.

The decision comes as a result of improvements in SEPTA's mobile app and real-time reporting systems. The agency has seen significant growth in its driver workforce over recent years, with about 100 job openings available each month – significantly fewer than during the pandemic era when staffing shortages were more prevalent.

While social media updates for Regional Rail lines, Broad Street and Market Frankford lines, as well as major disruptions like snowstorms, will continue, bus and trolley information will now be centralized on SEPTA's official channels. This change aims to mitigate the gap between what is posted online and the actual situation on the ground.

SEPTA officials acknowledge that while their mobile app has become more reliable in recent times, some residual issues remain – such as "ghost buses" – which are still occasionally listed as active despite being canceled. To address this, riders are encouraged to report any incidents to SEPTA's Customer Service Office.

idk why they cant just keep posting on social media, like, its not that hard to update a tweet every 5 mins lol 🤷‍♂️. and what about people who dont have the app? wont they be left in the dark again? 🚫💔 but i guess its better than when we had no info at all during the pandemic... thats for sure 🙏.

I'm a bit surprised they're ditching social media for bus and trolley delays... I mean, I get that the app is getting better and all, but what about those of us who don't have data plans or prefer to stay off our phones? Twitter was always a convenient way to just check if my bus was running on time 🚌. Plus, it's not like SEPTA's been completely transparent with their delays in the past... I mean, who hasn't seen a tweet saying "delay due to unexpected weather" only to get to the station and find out it's just a bunch of roadwork 🚧. Still, I guess this is all about making things more efficient for everyone. Can't complain too much 😊.

I gotta say, I'm kinda surprised they're ditching social media for bus and trolley delays. Like, it might sound old-school but honestly, sometimes the info on Twitter is just wrong 🤔. And yeah, I've been there too when you're stuck on a delayed bus at 8 am and all you see on your phone is "on time"... annoying 😒.

But for real, this new system sounds like it's gonna be more accurate and stuff. It's nice that they're putting the info in one place instead of having it scattered across multiple platforms. And I'm glad they're encouraging people to report any errors to their customer service office 📲. Less chances of "ghost buses" happening, right? 😂

I'm kinda happy about this change 😊. I mean think about it, social media can get pretty flooded with updates and sometimes it's hard to keep track of what's really going on with the buses 🚌🚨. By moving the info to their website and app, SEPTA is gonna make it easier for people to find the real deal – you know, when they actually need to plan their commute 🕒. Plus, less of a noise pollution online... fewer tweets to scroll through 😴. It's all about streamlining things and making life easier for riders 💨. Now, if only they could get that pesky "ghost bus" thing sorted out 🤦‍♂️...

I dont think its a bad idea at all 🤔, imo SEPTAs decision is actually kinda genius 💡. theyre trying to reduce the number of fake updates and just give accurate info where ppl can easily find it online. and yeah i remember those "ghost buses" 🚌😩 was so frustrating when that happened! but if its gonna be more reliable on their mobile app, thats a win in my book 🎉. still curious though how many ppl were actually relying on social media for bus info...

im not sure about ditching social media for bus and trolley delays...i mean its good they wanna improve efficiency but what about us riders who get anxious when our trains or buses are delayed? 🤔 it feels like they're hiding info from us on purpose...on the other hand, i guess having all that info on their website and app makes sense if it's really more accurate now 📊 and google maps will help too. might just have to wait and see how this new system plays out 👀

🚨 I'm kinda torn about this one... I mean, on one hand, I get it - social media can be super frustrating when you're stuck on a delayed bus and all the updates are coming through like every 5 mins 🤯. And yeah, having that info centralized online is a great idea. It's just... now I have to keep an eye on SEPTA's website & app 📊, which might not be as convenient for me since I'm always on-the-go. What if I forget to check? 😬 Still, it's all about getting the info right and not spreading panic or misinformation online 🙏

I'm sure it's just a coincidence that they're ditching social media for bus and trolley delays... like they've been doing a great job of keeping us informed on time so far 🙄. I mean, who needs up-to-the-minute info when you can wait around for hours for the next update? And yay for "ghost buses" - because nothing says "reliable transportation" like a bus that's already been canceled but still shows up in Google Maps 😂. Seriously though, if they're really trying to improve efficiency, maybe they should've started by fixing their app instead of abandoning social media altogether 🤷‍♀️.

🤔 I'm not entirely convinced that ditching social media for bus and trolley delays is the most effective solution. While it's true that the new approach promises more accurate and timely data on the official channels, what about passengers who don't have access to those channels? For instance, older adults or those living in rural areas might rely heavily on social media for real-time updates, especially if they're not tech-savvy enough to use the app. 📱👵 By centralizing information on SEPTA's official channels, are we just pushing people towards a digital divide? Moreover, shouldn't there be a more holistic approach that considers the needs of all passengers, regardless of their technology proficiency? 🤝

omg i kinda get it... they're tryin to make their app more reliable and stuff but now they're just gonna leave us in the dark about bus delays on social media 🙃 anyway i think its a good idea tho, idk how much of that ghost bus nonsense was really affectin anyone's life 🤷‍♀️ maybe this is a step in the right direction for septa to focus more on their app and less on keepin us posted on twitter 📱

omg i'm so down with septa ditching social media for bus and trolley delays!!! 🚂👍 they gotta get rid of those ghost buses lol 1st thing next week id be on their website and mobile app checkin on the latest updates 💻💸 i mean how many times have we seen them post "bus is coming" only to ride for 20 mins and it just disappears 🚫👎 now they got a better system in place and im all about it 👍🏽🚂

i feel kinda meh about septa ditchin their social media for bus and trolley delays 🤔. on one hand, it sounds like they're tryin to get more accurate info out there by centralizin' it on their website and app. but at the same time, i know how frustrating it can be when you see that your bus is gonna be delayed on twitter and then it ends up runnin an hour late anyway 😩. i just wish they'd keep the social media updates for a little while longer, like just until the mobile app is perfect or somethin' 🤞

omg have you tried those new iced coffees from starbucks yet? i mean like the ones with the pink color 🍰👀 they're so on trend! anyway back to septa... i don't get why they're ditching social media though, aren't updates more helpful when they're posted in one place instead of scattered across multiple platforms? and what's up with ghost buses tho? like how do those even happen? 🤔🚌

I'm kinda stoked about SEPTA ditching social media for bus and trolley delay updates 🤔. It makes sense, considering how often those posts can be outdated or just plain wrong 🚫. And I mean, we've all been there - scrolling through Twitter only to see that the bus is gonna be late... again 😩. By moving everything to their website and mobile app, they're making it easier for people to get accurate info in one place 👍. Plus, it's great to hear they're taking steps to fix those pesky "ghost buses" 🚨. Now if only they could figure out a way to get that bus schedule right all the time... 😂
