Shooting that injured 3 at Westfield Valley Fair appears to be an 'isolated incident': police

Police at Westfield Valley Fair Mall in California's Silicon Valley say a shooting that injured three people appears to be an isolated incident, with authorities ruling out any threat to the public.

The victims, one adult male and two others - including 16-year-old girl - were shot during a confrontation between two individuals outside Macy's on the second floor of the mall. The police confirmed no suspects have been apprehended yet in connection with the shooting.

Witnesses described chaos as people scrambled to find shelter after hearing gunshots. "It was like fireworks," said one shopper, who added they initially thought it sounded like fireworks before realizing it was gunshots. Others claimed they heard loud bangs and glass shattering as panic set in among shoppers.

The mall was placed on lockdown, with hundreds seeking refuge in nearby stores or hiding places. Once the situation was brought under control, police began evacuating the area, using SWAT team members to ensure public safety.

"I thought something fell," one shopper said they heard at first, before realizing it was a gunshot. "We ducked down."

Police have appealed for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, but authorities emphasize there is no ongoing threat to the community.

San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan urged residents to avoid the area while police investigate the incident.

omg what a crazy scene at that mall 🤯! i was thinking about how we always hear about shootings on tv and think it's so far away from us, but this is like right in our backyard 📍. i know people who went to that mall just last week and they didn't even think something bad would happen. it's just devastating to think about those 3 people getting hurt 💔. the witnesses' reactions were wild too - "it sounded like fireworks" lol, no wonder they were confused for a sec 😂. anyway, i hope whoever did this gets caught and the community can start healing again 🙏. we need more support for our first responders and mental health services in places like that mall 🤝

Ugh I'm still shaking thinking about this 😩... can't believe it happened at a mall in one of the safest places in the country 🤯! Three people injured and no idea what triggered this whole thing, just chaos and panic everywhere 🌪️. Poor 16-year-old girl, what if her family never sees her smile again? 🤕 And hundreds of people hiding for their lives because some idiot decided to bring a gun into the mall... what's wrong with us?! 🤷‍♀️ I'm so tired of living in fear of these kinds of incidents 🚫. And can't we just have a conversation without it turning into a shootout? 🗣️ It's like, can't we all just get along?! 😩 This whole thing is just so frustrating and heartbreaking 💔.

omg i cant believe this happened at a mall 🤯 like what if it was during lunch or something?! anyway im just glad its not one of those shooting places that can get super crowded and stuff so people are stuck in there 😩 i heard they found some security footage but still no word on who did it yet 🕵️‍♂️ maybe the mall will have those new gun-detecting scanners now? 🤔 idk if thats a good idea or not lol... anyway im just hoping whoever gets caught gets help and stuff 🙏

🤦‍♂️ Man, what's the point of even having a mall lockdown system if it's not gonna work? Three people get shot and now hundreds are stuck in stores like some kinda hostage situation 🚫. And good luck getting witnesses to come forward, they're all probably too scared or shell-shocked to talk 😵. The police are just making a big show about appealing for tips to distract us from the fact that they still have no idea who did it 💔. I mean, 16-year-old girl gets shot, what's the world coming to? 🤯 And now everyone's stuck in this lockdown limbo until they figure out if there was some kinda threat or not... meanwhile, people are just chillin' like their lives don't depend on it 😒. The mayor is right though, stay away from the area for a while, better safe than sorry 🚨.

I'm low-key glad that the situation at Westfield Valley Fair Mall was handled pretty well 🤞, considering it's a crazy busy place and you never know what can happen 💥. But at the same time, I'm kinda freaking out that three people got shot and there are still no suspects 🤔... like, how did this even happen in broad daylight?! 😱 And I don't wanna freak anyone out, but it's pretty wild that some people thought it was fireworks first lol. Anyway, gotta give a shoutout to the police for keeping everyone safe and all 💪... guess you never know when things might get real 🎯.

omg what a crazy day at Westfield Valley Fair Mall 🤯 just heard about the shooting and I'm still trying to process it all... three people injured, one 16-year-old girl? that's so young 😱 can you even imagine being in someone else's shoes like that? and the fact that people thought it was fireworks at first is wild lol but seriously though, chaos is when you hear loud bangs and glass shattering and people running around like crazy... how would you react in a situation like that? anyway, I'm all about supporting the victims and their families 💕 can't wait to see if any info comes out about what happened 🤔

Mall security should really step up their game 🙄. I mean, it's 2025 and we're still getting shot at in public places? Can't they just have some sort of panic button or something? And what's with the eyewitnesses thinking it sounded like fireworks first? Like, isn't that what happens when there's a firework display? 🤦‍♀️ I guess it's not like anyone's ever heard a gunshot before and thought "oh, maybe that's just a firework" 😂. Anyway, glad no one was seriously hurt, but still...can we please get some basic safety measures in place for once? 🙏

man this sounds like super scary 🚨💥 it's crazy how people can just start shooting gunshots and everyone freaks out instantly. i feel for those three victims, hope they're gonna be okay 💕. idk what's going on with the 16-year-old girl tho, is she in hospital or something? 🤞 and omg all these witnesses thinking it sounded like fireworks first?? that's wild 😂. anyways, good that police are trying to figure out what happened and that they're taking it super seriously 💯. hope this whole thing gets solved soon and the mall can get back to normal shopping vibes 😊.

🤦‍♂️ I'm still shaking my head about this mall shooting in Silicon Valley 🙅‍♂️. Can you believe people are still getting shot just because they disagreed with each other? 😕 It's like, what even is going on anymore?

I mean, I get it, confrontations can get heated, but you'd think we'd have better ways to deal with our differences than resorting to violence 💔. And now this poor 16-year-old girl got hurt 🤕... I just don't understand why we need all these SWAT teams running around, stressing out innocent people 😬.

And honestly? I'm so over the lockdowns and evacuations 🚫. Can't we just live our lives without having to worry about being in a "high-risk" area? 🙄 I know it's better to err on the side of caution, but geez... sometimes I feel like we're all just walking around with our heads down, waiting for the other shoe to drop 😩.

I do hope the police can find out what happened and bring whoever is responsible to justice 💪. And maybe, just maybe, we'll learn something from this and try to find ways to resolve conflicts without guns 🤞.

🚨 just saw that 3 ppl got shot at Westfield Valley Fair Mall in California and I'm literally shook 🤯. According to reports, it was a confrontation between two individuals outside Macy's on the second floor that led to the shooting 🛍️. The victims are a male adult and two others, including a 16-yr-old girl 👧.

Stats don't lie tho... this incident is still under investigation and no suspects have been apprehended 🕵️‍♀️. Authorities say there's no ongoing threat to the public, but I'm still waiting for more info on the motive behind the shooting 🔍.

By the way, did you know that California has one of the highest rates of gun violence in the US? 🤯 According to data from the CDC, in 2022, there were over 24,000 gun-related deaths in CA alone 💀. Let's hope this incident is an isolated one and not a sign of things to come 🤞.

Pics of the mall show chaos and panic among shoppers 👺... witnesses reported hearing loud bangs and glass shattering as people scrambled to find shelter 🌪️. The police response was swift, with SWAT team members on the scene to ensure public safety 💪.

Let's keep our fingers crossed that this incident is resolved soon and the community can return to normal 😅.

🤕 what's up with people having guns just chillin at the mall? like, shouldn't they be worried about getting shot by some crazy person? 🤦‍♀️

and omg 16 year old girl got shot too?! that's so sad and scary 😭

i heard it was chaos when the gunshots went off, people were like "what's happening?" 🙅‍♂️ glass shattering and loud bangs... sounds like a horror movie or something 💀

anywayz, police are investigating and asking for witnesses to come forward 👮‍♂️ hope they catch the guy ASAP so we don't have to worry about it anymore 😌

omg just heard about this crazy shooting at Westfield Valley Fair Mall in cali 😱 i mean i hope ppl r doin ok esp that 16 yr old girl 🤗 i dont think we need no more shootings or lockdowns lol i wish they had a way to diffuse the situation b4 it got out of hand like what kinda confrontation was gonna happen outside macy's 🤑 anyway, i guess police said there ain't no suspects yet so maybe w/ luck it's just some crazy stalker thing 😳 idk what ppl r gonna do tho, just hope they catch whoever did this ASAP 💨

🤞 this is just one of those crazy incidents that can happen anywhere, you know? like it was a normal day at the mall and then suddenly BAM! someone's shot 🎯 and everyone's freaking out 😱. but honestly, the fact that no one was seriously hurt (or killed) is what's really got me thinking... maybe this could be a wake-up call for us to take our lives and each other's safety way more seriously? 💡 like we need those kinds of scary moments to remind us to slow down and appreciate the little things. 🙏 anyway, it's good that the police are on top of it and the community is coming together to support each other... fingers crossed for a positive outcome! 🤞

🚨 This is such a scary situation... like I was on my way home from work and I saw that news alert on my phone 📱 thinking it's another mass shooting in the US which we've seen before 😕 but apparently it was just 2 people having a confrontation outside the mall. That does sound crazy though, fireworks at first? I can imagine how freaked out everyone must be 🤯 and poor 16-year-old girl getting shot too... my heart is still with her and the other victims 💔

OMG, what's up with this?! 🤯 I'm still trying to process what happened at Westfield Valley Fair Mall. Three people got shot and no one knows why? 😱 It's like, super scary for everyone else who was there. I mean, can you imagine hearing gunshots thinking it's fireworks at first? That's just crazy! 💥 And the fact that hundreds of people had to hide or run away from their shopping... it's so not right. 🚫 The police are still trying to figure out what happened and find the person(s) responsible, but until then, I'm just glad no one got seriously hurt.

I'm kinda worried about the 16-year-old girl who was shot though... her family must be going through some major stress right now 😔. And what's up with this "it was like fireworks" comment from that shopper? Like, is she trying to downplay it or something? 🤷‍♀️ Anyway, I hope the police catch whoever did this ASAP and bring some peace back to that mall. 💪

Man, that's crazy 🤯! You feel me? A mall shooting in Silicon Valley where techies and entrepreneurs live and breathe innovation... it's just too much 💸. I'm all about defending my platform of choice 🚀, but stuff like this makes me wanna stay safe at home 😅.

I'm not sure what's more shocking - the fact that a shooting happened at all or that people initially thought it was fireworks 🎇🔥! It's wild how quickly panic sets in when you hear gunshots, right? 💥. I mean, I know Westfield Valley Fair is like a big deal for locals and tourists alike, but can't we just have some peace and quiet while shopping? 🛍️

The fact that the police haven't caught any suspects yet doesn't reassure me much 🤔. I'm all about supporting law enforcement, but this feels like an isolated incident... or so they say 🚫.

I'm telling you, something fishy went down at that mall 🤔. Three people get shot and it's just a "confrontation" between two individuals? That sounds like a cover-up to me 😒. I mean, what were those two guys fighting about outside the Macy's store on the second floor? It don't add up.

And what really gets my goat is that no suspects have been caught yet 🚔. The police just wanna sweep it under the rug and move on, right? Wrong! There gotta be someone behind this who wants to keep the truth from coming out. And I'm gonna stick my neck out here and say it's not an isolated incident either - there's more to this story than meets the eye 🔍.

I'm not saying it was a coordinated attack or anything, but sometimes you just get that feeling when something doesn't feel right... like déjà vu or somethin' 😟. Anyway, I'll be keepin' my eyes peeled for any updates on this one 👀.

I'm telling ya, this whole thing feels like a setup 🤔. Like, what's really going on here? Three people get shot and it's just an isolated incident? I don't buy it 😒. And what about all those witnesses who heard gunshots sound like fireworks at first? That's some weird stuff, man 🔥. And have you seen the pics of the SWAT team evacuating the area? They look super cautious, if you ask me 👀.

And let's not forget about the lockdown and the mayor warning people to stay away. This feels too scripted to me 📺. What's really going on here? Are they hiding something from us? I'm not saying it's a conspiracy or anything (okay, maybe a little 😜), but I do think we need to keep an eye out for more info before they let the story slide.

🤕 this mall thing in silicon valley got me thinking... like what's going on with all these shootings lately? and it's not even about the politics or economy, it's just human beings getting hurt 🤦‍♀️ how can we expect people to feel safe when there's a gun involved? anyway, i guess police did their thing and put everyone's lives first 💯 but still, this is like a whole different level of crazy 🚨
