Shredded cheese sold at Walmart, Publix and other grocery stores recalled due to metal fragments

US Food Regulator Recalls Shredded Cheese Due to Metal Fragments

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a recall of over 1 million bags of shredded cheese sold at major retailers including Walmart, Publix, and Aldi. The affected products contain metal fragments that could potentially cause temporary or reversible health issues.

The recalled shredded cheese was manufactured by Ohio-based Great Lakes Cheese Co. and was sold in 31 states and Puerto Rico between January and March 2026. The FDA has classified the recall as "class II," indicating that the product poses a moderate risk to consumers' health.

The products under recall include various blends of mozzarella, parmesan, and provolone cheese, as well as store-brand options from major retailers like Target and Aldi. Some specific brands that are part of the recall include:

- Always Save shredded mozzarella
- Borden shredded mozzarella and thick cut options
- Brookshire's finely shredded and shredded mozzarella options
- Cache Valley Creamery shredded mozzarella

The FDA has stated that the products have sell-by dates ranging from January to late March 2026.

Consumers who purchased these products should discard them immediately, as the metal fragments pose a risk of injury or health issues. The FDA recommends checking the product's packaging for any signs of damage before consuming it.

This recall highlights the importance of food safety and regulatory oversight in ensuring the quality and safety of packaged goods sold in US grocery stores.

You can't separate people from facts! 📰 They're not your father's problem anymore - be aware of your surroundings, and when you hear the dog barking at you, don't shoot... the mailman! 😂

ugh man I remember when we used to buy shredded cheese from the deli counter back in the day 🧀, you didn't have to worry about metal shavings getting mixed in... now it's like a whole new level of paranoia 🤯, I mean what's next? Are they gonna recall our coffee too because there might be a tiny chance that the beans were processed by robots from Mars ⚽️?! seriously though, gotta give props to the FDA for taking action tho 💯

🚨 I'm thinking, if the FDA can't keep an eye on shredded cheese coming out of a major manufacturer like Great Lakes Cheese Co., what else is going unchecked? 🤔 Is this just another case of corporate negligence or a bigger systemic issue? The fact that metal fragments made it into bags of shredded cheese in the first place is disturbing. It raises questions about how we regulate food safety on a large scale...

Ugh, can you believe this? I just got my morning coffee and then I hear about the shredded cheese being recalled... like what even is the deal with that?! 🤦‍♀️ My kid loves shredded cheese on their pasta, and now they're out of it because of metal fragments. That's just not fair. I hope they get this sorted out ASAP so we can go back to buying cheese without worrying about it being contaminated. And what really gets me is that this could've been prevented if the factory had been more careful with their production process. I mean, who puts metal in shredded cheese?! 🤔 It's just common sense, right? Anyway, let's all be safe and keep an eye out for any other recalls... 😬

🚨 this whole thing is just another example of how our regulatory system can fail us, you know? I mean, 1 million bags of shredded cheese with metal fragments... that's a huge number! 🤯 What's really going on here? Was it a manufacturing defect or was there some kind of oversight by the FDA? And why did this happen in the first place? It's like we're just relying on luck and not enough quality control. I'm all for safety regulations, but sometimes it feels like it's just too little, too late. We need to ask ourselves, what other foods are out there with hidden dangers? Shouldn't we be testing our food more thoroughly before they hit the shelves? The FDA needs to step up their game and hold these manufacturers accountable. It's time for some real change in the way we regulate our food supply... 🤝

What a total pain in the butt! 🤦‍♂️ I mean, who checks shredded cheese for metal fragments? It's like they expect us to just magically inspect our groceries for hidden dangers? Newsflash: we're busy trying to adult here, not quality control specialists. And what really gets my goat is that this happened between January and March 2026 – when was the last time you checked your fridge from that time period? 🤔 I'm gonna have to go through all my groceries and check for metal shreds myself now... not cool, FDA.
